Chapter 392

The general manager's office setup was fine as it was; I liked it. About fifteen minutes later, the candidates from the recruitment company started showing up.

The first guy had been a deputy manager at a mid-sized media company. He seemed capable, but he wanted three million dollars a year.

I thought, 'Does he think I'm a fool? In Greenvale City, a deputy manager makes around eight hundred thousand dollars a year, maybe a million with bonuses.'

He talked a good game, but it was all fluff. Just another smooth talker.

I chatted with him for a bit and then showed him the door.

The next two candidates weren't any better. The ones asking for high salaries had too many demands, and the ones asking for less just didn't impress me.

I thought, 'Is there no talent in Greenvale City?'

Just then, there was a knock on my office door.

I said, "Come in."

A tall woman in a professional skirt walked in. She had brown hair, long legs, black high heels, and a killer figure.

"Who are you?" I frowned. The recruitment company hadn't mentioned her.

She asked, "Are you hiring a general manager here?"

I nodded. "How did you know?"

"May I sit down and talk?" she asked with a smile.

"Sure, have a seat."

She sat down, still smiling. "Let me introduce myself. I'm Calliope Hawthorne, from Greenvale City, 30 years old, single, no kids, no boyfriend. I was the deputy general manager at PulsePoint Media here in Greenvale. I left because of some bad decisions by the higher-ups. I have a lot of connections and resources in Greenvale. Your company is new, and I can build a team and make it profitable in a month and a half. Before I turn thirty-five, you won't have to worry about me slacking off because of personal issues. Here's my resume."

She handed me her resume, which I skimmed through. She had three degrees from Greenvale City University and several awards.

I didn't expect her to be such a high achiever. "These qualifications are impressive, but I just want to know how you knew we were hiring."

Calliope smiled. "You have a job posting on your door!"

I was a bit taken aback. So that's how she knew.

I sized her up. Calliope was more impressive than the candidates from the recruitment company. "Tell me your requirements."

She said firmly, "A fifty thousand dollar annual salary, but I want ten percent of the company's profits, and I need leadership authority."

Fifty thousand a year wasn't much, but ten percent of the profits was a lot!

"You might not understand our company very well..."

She cut me off, "WY Media Company Group's headquarters is in Sevan City. It's a comprehensive group that includes media, new media, e-commerce, cosmetics, dance, and renovation projects. It's only been around for a bit over two months, but it's already showing great potential."

Listening to her detailed rundown of my company, I felt a bit weird. "Did you investigate us before coming in?"

Calliope smiled. "Opportunities are for those who are prepared. And to be honest, I've been really interested in Ruyi Cosmetics lately!"

I nodded. Ruyi Cosmetics made waves in the beauty industry and the feedback was also very good.

Even though she did her homework, she clearly didn't get WY Media Company, or rather, she didn't get my capabilities.

I said, "You're impressive, better than the others I've interviewed, but I still can't hire you."

"Why?" Calliope frowned, clearly surprised.

I explained, "The connections and resources you have might seem impressive to others, but they don't mean much to me."

I thought, 'Marlow is from here too, and he has plenty of resources. If Steven hadn't messed things up with Quinlan, the Greenvale City branch would be doing great. Plus, dealing with Quinlan and those with power in their families, even if they don't directly help my business, they'll at least lend a hand. I've got my own connections here. I don't need her connections.'

"What? You don't believe me?"

She looked shocked. I kept my cool and added, "I'm not playing hard to get. Maybe you think I'm from Sevan City and have no connections."

Calliope didn't say anything, but her face said it all.

"Sure, more resources are always good; no one hates having more," I went on. "But if you have so many resources, why not start your own company? Why come to me?"

Calliope replied, "Because I believe in WY Media Company Group."

I thought, 'So, she sees the huge potential in WY Media Company. It's a good platform and a new group. The earlier she joins, the more benefits she'll get. In the future, whether it's Dance Fusion Hall or VelocityMart, they'll both expand to Greenvale City. As the capital of Snowpeak Kingdom, Greenvale City is a big deal commercially. Calliope can grow better using this platform. In the long run, she benefits more than the company.'

"Lots of people believe in WY Media Company, and they're all billionaires. Do you think your connections and resources are better than those of billionaires?" I said calmly.

Calliope nodded, then shook her head. "Of course not, but I can manage the company well. If the boss sets development goals, I'll be the most steadfast executor."

I liked that. I'd been looking for someone responsible, obedient, and sensible.

"An annual salary of fifty thousand dollars, a three percent profit share. If the Greenvale City branch's annual revenue exceeds fifty million dollars, I'll bump it to eighty thousand dollars and a four percent profit share. If it goes over a hundred million dollars, you'll get a hundred thousand dollars and a five percent profit share." I meant net profit.

I thought, 'If she can really pull that off, what's a few hundred thousand dollars? The main profit is still mine. And I was talking about the media sector, not other parts of the company.'

Calliope thought for a moment, then nodded seriously. "I agree!"

"Welcome to the company." I stood up and shook her hand. "I'm John Cena, the chairman of WY Media Company."

Calliope looked surprised. "You are Mr. Cena?"

I nodded. She looked a bit embarrassed. "I didn't check carefully when I was researching. I thought the chairman was a middle-aged man."

"Didn't expect me to be a young guy, huh?" I smiled. "As you said, I need an absolute executor to carry out my plans. I'll give you a one-month probation period. During this month, you need to help me build the entire structure of the Greenvale City branch. The headquarters is very short-staffed, so don't expect people from there."

She nodded. "Understood, Mr. Cena!"

"Also, I've arranged an assistant for you named Marlow, also from Greenvale City. I hope you two can work together to make the company successful."

"I understand."

After talking with her for a while, I called Savannah and asked her to send over an electronic contract.

After printing the contract, I said, "See if there are any issues!"

She carefully reviewed it for a while, then smiled. "No issues."

She immediately signed her name.

I asked, "When can you start?"

Calliope said, "Anytime!"

"Alright, the position is yours." I stood up and called Marlow. Marlow was very surprised when he got the call.

Half an hour later, Marlow showed up, sweating. "Mr. Cena, why did you call me here so urgently?"

"Let me introduce you. This is Calliope Hawthorne, the general manager of the Greenvale City branch of WY Media Company!"

"Hello, Mr. Harrison!" Calliope extended her hand.

The moment Marlow saw Calliope, his eyes lit up. He quickly extended his hand. "Hello, Ms. Hawthorne!"

After they shook hands, I said, "I started this company. Do you understand what that means?"

Marlow was stunned for a few seconds, then said, "You mean, you are the chairman of WY Media Company Group?"

"I'll give you a few minutes to check," I said calmly.
