Chapter 394
I scratched my head. "It's nothing, really. Just doing what I had to do."
"That's great. I'm glad Quinlan has a friend like you." Remy stood up and grabbed my hand. "Come on, dinner's ready."
I let him lead me, but I was on high alert inside.
If it were the Wilson family treating me this warmly, it would make sense, but why the Harrison family?
I racked my brain but couldn't figure it out.
At the dining table, everything was top-notch, flown in from abroad. This one meal must've cost seven to eight hundred grand.
I thought, 'Is this what a billionaire's simple life looks like?'
After dinner, Remy said, "John, if you don't mind, make yourself at home here."
I was taken aback, then said, "That's really kind of you!"
Remy smiled. "Come by often."
Then he said, "Yves, Quinlan, John came all the way from Sevan City. Make sure he feels at home."
Yves nodded. "Okay, Dad!"
Quinlan patted his chest. "Don't worry, Dad. In Greenvale City, no one can mess with John!"
"You, stop hanging out with those people." Rosalind gave him a look. "If all your friends were like John, Remy and I wouldn't have to worry."
Quinlan scratched his head. "That's tough. There aren't many people like John these days."
Everyone laughed at Quinlan's words.
After that, Remy and Rosalind left, telling Quinlan to take good care of me.
We went to the study on the second floor. It was more like Quinlan's treasure trove. "Check it out. These are all the books I've collected. Do you think Abigail would like them?"
I touched my nose and thought, 'Even if you moved Book Sea Haven to her house, she probably wouldn't like you.'
But I couldn't say that. "By the way, Quinlan, isn't Remy being too nice to me?" Actually, after getting to know Quinlan, I found him pretty easy to get along with. He was really good to his friends, making things straightforward.
"Is it a bad thing that my parents are being nice to you?" Quinlan pouted, "Others would kill for this treatment."
"I'm not saying it's bad. I just feel kinda guilty." I smiled bitterly. "I'm just an ordinary guy. I haven't done anything for your family, so I don't deserve it."
"No, you helped us." Quinlan put down the book he was holding. "If something had happened that day, no one would have gotten out of there."
He sighed, "So many people, yet no one stepped up. What do you think those parents would do if they found out?"
I suddenly got it. The Wilson family bore the greatest responsibility, but these people couldn't escape it either.
"There's another reason, which you probably know. You've gained everyone's friendship," Quinlan said. "You're probably the fastest outsider to fit into Greenvale City's social circle, but I'm not jealous because you earned it with your life."
I understood what he meant. Remy saw potential in my future. It's like an investment; befriending me before I succeed is a common business move.
Even if I don't succeed, they don't lose anything.
"But don't feel too pressured." Quinlan patted my shoulder and then changed the subject. "I heard you started your own company?"
I said, "Yeah, I started a company in Sevan City and plan to open a branch here."
Quinlan asked, "When do you plan to open?"
I answered, "Not sure yet, but probably in the next few days."
Quinlan exclaimed, "Cool, no problem. I'll get some people to back you up!"
"Thanks."
"We're friends. No need to be so polite." Quinlan grinned. "So, what did you do in Crystal Nation? Have a blast?"
I asked, "Why don't you go yourself?"
"Don't even mention it. My dad thinks Crystal Nation is too dangerous and won't let me go."
"Why?"
He mumbled something, but I could guess he was too much trouble and could easily get into danger there.
I thought, 'Crystal Nation isn't like here; if something happens, it's hard to come back.'
Under his persistent questioning, I didn't hold back and told him about my time in Crystal Nation, with a few tweaks.
"Holy crap, it sounds like a movie!" Quinlan said, wide-eyed.
"Still wanna go to Crystal Nation?" I teased.
He shook his head vigorously. "No way! It's safer here!"
"Alright, it's getting late. I'm heading back." I checked the time; it was already past nine, and I still had to check on Linda and Stella tonight.
After leaving the Harrison family, the next day, my wild adventures in Crystal Nation were all over the place, thanks to Quinlan.
The next morning, I was still asleep when my phone rang, waking me up.
"Answer the phone, it's so annoying!" Stella grumbled.
I moved Linda's arm and leg aside, went to the living room, and answered Connie's call. "What's up?"
"I'm at your gate. Come down, quick."
I was stunned. "Alright, wait for me. I'll be right down."
After a quick wash, I went downstairs.
In the luxury car, Connie said, "Is what Quinlan said true? Did you really fight off criminals at sea?"
I was taken aback. "What are you talking about?"
"Are you still not telling me the truth?" Connie reached out and started unbuttoning my shirt.
"What are you doing?"
"I want to see if you're hurt!" Her hands roamed over my chest, and I seriously suspected she was doing it on purpose.
I looked at her helplessly. "Can you talk and stop touching me?"
"Good thing you're not hurt." She withdrew her hand, looking very calm. "Do you know you're quite famous now? They're going nuts speculating about your identity."
As she spoke, she took out her phone and opened the Greenvale City group chat.
[So cool, I bet he's a retired soldier. So handsome.]
[What soldier? He must be from a powerful family!]
[I really like him. I think I'm falling in love with him!]
[Get lost, John is mine. No one can take him from me!]
I felt helpless and thought, 'What is wrong with these women?'
"See? Do you know how popular you are now? Aren't you excited?" She teased, "If you agree, these thirsty ladies will climb into your bed and have sex with you."
"What the hell?" I smiled bitterly. "You guys are blowing this way out of proportion."
"Nope. I think it's just right!" She licked her sexy red lips. "In Greenvale City, these people lack nothing but excitement. You're their hero, and now you've risked your life fighting criminals for a woman. Even movies don't dare to show this. Do you think they wouldn't go crazy for you?"
"Connie, stop being ridiculous." I regretted it. If I had known, I wouldn't have told Quinlan.
He exaggerated everything, making me look like a god. I'm starting to believe it myself!
Connie said coquettishly, "My great hero, would you spend a wonderful night with me tonight?"
