Chapter 365
I said, "Ms. Wilson, you're too kind. I just acted on impulse. I don't deserve to be called a hero."
Connie replied, "You deserve to be called a hero. Don't you all agree?"
"Absolutely, you're a true hero," the girls shouted in unison.
I felt super embarrassed.
Around eleven at night, everyone finally left, except for Abigail and Connie.
Quinlan wanted to stay too, but Abigail and Connie made him leave.
I said, "Abigail, Ms. Wilson, you should go home. It's just a minor injury; I'll be discharged tomorrow."
"You'll be discharged tomorrow, but tonight we need to stay with you," Connie said, "The doctor said you inhaled a lot of carbon monoxide. We need to keep an eye on you and can't leave you alone."
Abigail nodded in agreement.
Seeing how insistent they were, I didn't argue, but I was a bit worried about the two people at home. I thought, 'What if they start fighting after I leave?'
Just as I was worrying, there was a knock on the door, and a tall man walked in. "Miss, it's time to go home!"
Abigail frowned. "Didn't I call home? Why are you still here?"
"Miss, your parents are worried about you being out. How about this, you go home first, and I'll stay to take care of this gentleman."
I thought, 'Did Abigail's parents know?'
I felt a bit anxious. After all, I was the one who asked Abigail out. Saving her was the right thing to do, but if her parents thought I put her in danger, I'd be in trouble.
I persuaded, "Abigail, go home. I'm fine, it's just a minor injury."
"Ms. Kingsley, with me here, everything will be fine," Connie stood up and said.
"Alright then," Abigail said, "John, rest well. I'll come see you first thing in the morning. Ms. Wilson, I'm counting on you!"
"Got it!" Connie saw her out and then closed the door.
At that moment, I felt her gaze was a bit strange. Then she walked over, sat by my bed, and asked, "Are you and Ms. Kingsley in a relationship?"
I shook my head repeatedly. "No, don't misunderstand. We're just friends."
"Friends? As far as I know, Abigail has high standards. There are many outstanding young people in Greenvale City, but not many can catch her eye." Connie looked at me intently. "And even fewer can be her friends."
I smiled wryly. "Would you believe me if I said I've only known Abigail for a few days?"
"I believe you." Connie suddenly laughed, her chest heaving, looking very sexy.
Seeing my gaze lower, she didn't get shy. Instead, she puffed out her chest and leaned forward slightly. "Quinlan calls you John, can I call you that too?"
I found Connie to be very appealing. "Sure!"
"If you don't mind, you can call me Connie from now on."
"Ms. Wilson, isn't this a bit inappropriate?"
"There's nothing inappropriate about it. Just call me that." She sat beside me. "I used to not believe in heroes, but now I do. You're my superhero."
"Connie," I called out with difficulty.
"That's right." Connie smiled brightly. "I'm 30 years old, single, no kids, and I need a boyfriend. I think you're quite suitable."
I was stunned. "I have a girlfriend."
"In Sevan City?"
"Yes!" I nodded. "Sorry, Connie!"
Connie was not someone to mess with, coming from a family worth billions.
Disappointed, Connie said, "That's a shame, but you're still my superhero."
"Thank you." I nodded, and we became a bit awkward.
"My dad called earlier. He wants you to come over for dinner in a few days to thank you in person."
"No need, Ms. Wilson, you're too kind. I just did what anyone would do."
Connie looked at me with a hint of resentment. "Are you afraid to see me?"
"No, you're so beautiful, why would I be afraid!"
She seemed surprised. "Do you really think I'm beautiful?"
I swallowed hard. With that face, that figure, that height, only Lauren could compare.
"But I feel like I've gotten fat recently, it's so frustrating." She stretched out her long legs. "Look, my legs have gotten thicker."
I almost choked on my saliva. Looking at Connie, I found her eyes were full of amusement and realized she was doing it on purpose.
I quickly looked away. "If your figure is considered fat, then there's no such thing as a thin person in this world."
She giggled. "Handsome, brave, humble, and so good with words, how can any woman resist your charm?"
I just smiled and didn't say anything.
At that moment, my phone rang. It was a call from Katherine, "Where are you?"
I didn't want her to worry, so I said, "I'm out handling something. I probably won't be back tonight. You should rest early."
"Are you with another woman?"
I was startled and said guiltily, "No, don't overthink it. I'll be back first thing in the morning."
"Tell me where you are, now!" On the phone, Katherine's voice turned cold. "I came all this way, and you leave me alone? Aren't you afraid I'll fight with her?"
I felt helpless. "I'll come back right now!"
After hanging up, Connie leaned over and said, "Your girlfriend came to Greenvale City too?"
I nodded, then shook my head.
"You can't be discharged tonight. I need to watch over you. What if you have sequela?" Connie walked over and locked the door. "In any case, you can't go anywhere tonight."
Just then, another call came in, this time from Linda. I thought, 'Were these two women in cahoots?'
I answered the phone. "Hello, Ms. Foster."
Linda said, "Where are you? Where did you go?"
"I'm out. I probably won't be back..."
Before I could finish, Linda said coldly, "If you don't come back tonight, come see me at the hospital tomorrow!"
I said helplessly, "I'll come back right now."
After hanging up, I felt exhausted. "Please let me go. I'm feeling much better."
Connie shook her head. "No, you can't leave tonight."
I pulled out the IV that hadn't finished dripping and got out of bed. Other than feeling a bit dizzy, I was fine. "Thank you for your kindness, but I have to go back. I hope you understand."
Connie looked at me, a bit angry. "What kind of girlfriend is that? You're like this, and she still wants you to go back? Give me her number, I'll talk to her."
"Thanks, but it's complicated. I can't explain it all at once. I'll handle it myself."
Saying that, I walked over, and Connie leaned against the door. "If you want to leave, move me to the side."
"Don't be ridiculous."
I said with a wry smile, "Let me go, or there will be no peace tonight."
"I won't!" She raised her head, looking straight at me.
I sighed, knowing she meant well. "Connie, I'm sorry!"
I walked over to pick her up, but I clearly overestimated myself. I had exerted too much energy tonight and hadn't recovered. Connie was tall and curvy, not light.
Plus, I had inhaled a lot of smoke, feeling lightheaded. Instead of picking her up, I lost my balance and fell to the ground with her.
