Chapter 358

I was thinking, 'Man, watching stand-up comedy sounds like a blast.'

'Sevan City doesn't have any stand-up shows, though.'

"I've never been to one before," I said.

Abigail chimed in, "Then let's go."

Greenvale City was packed with stand-up comedy joints, and the top spot was Realm of Laughter.

As soon as we walked in, the ticket guy stood up and said, "Ms. Rodriguez."

"Is my private box ready?" Wendy asked casually.

"Yep, always reserved for you."

The ticket guy grinned, "Please, come in."

I was secretly blown away. 'Is this Wendy's doing?' I wondered. 'First the private pool, now a VIP box at the most popular comedy club in Greenvale City?'

The box was decked out, super comfy, and had a killer view.

Just as we were getting into the show, the door swung open!

Some random dude walked in.

I frowned, about to say something, but he beat me to it, "What a coincidence, seeing you here."

Wendy raised an eyebrow, "What are you doing here?"

I thought, "An acquaintance?"

I kept my mouth shut.

"Don't you know? Realm of Laughter is one of my investments."

I was shocked. I thought, "This place is his investment?" He looked really familiar.

"Abby," he said, turning to Abigail.

"Yves, my name is Abigail," she corrected coolly. "We're not on a nickname basis."

Yves?

'So this is one of the Four,' I thought. 'He's actually pretty good-looking. He and Quinlan are like night and day, though they're brothers.'

Yves didn't get mad and said, "Don't be so cold. Even if you and my brother have issues, we grew up together."

"What's your deal?"

"I want you to help me get Zoey to meet me."

"No way. Zoey said she doesn't like you, so back off."

Abigail said, "Sorry, can't help you."

"If you help me, I'll give you that musical instrument you want," Yves said.

"Thanks, but no thanks."

Abigail stayed cool, her eyes steady.

Yves frowned, "When did we get like this?"

Abigail said, "Haven't we always been like this?"

Yves sighed, "Alright, I won't bug you then. I'll visit Mr. Kingsley in a few days."

With that, he left without even glancing at me.

Wendy snorted, "He's the worst!"

"What's his deal?"

"I can't put my finger on it, but he's just a pain, like the others."

'Who are "the others"?' I wondered. 'The other members of the Four? Does Wendy know all of them?'

"Let's keep watching."

Abigail took a sip of tea and focused on the stage.

At six, we left Realm of Laughter. Abigail said goodbye and took off, and Wendy quietly sent me a message: [Wait for my message later.]

I shook my head, thinking she was set on playing matchmaker.

Just as I was about to grab a cab, a guy in black walked up, "Our boss wants to see you."

"Are you talking to me?"

"Yes." The guy in black nodded, "Please!"

I frowned, "Who's your boss?"

"You'll find out when you get there."

"The boss of Realm of Laughter?"

The guy in black stayed silent, and I got the hint.

"Lead the way," I said, keeping my cool.

"Go in," he said when we reached the office door.

I knocked, and only when I heard a voice inside did I step in.

The office was swanky, with a classic vibe and a hint of sandalwood in the air. A young dude sat at the desk, puffing on a cigar. It was Yves.

"Here you are."

Yves stood up, "Have a seat!"

I sat down and asked, "Mr. Harrison, what do you want?"

He grinned, "Have some tea first, it's really good."

He poured me a cup and then asked, "Who are you? Where are you from, and what do you want with them?"

I thought, 'Is he grilling me?'

I stayed calm, "Mr. Harrison, did you call me here just to ask that?"

He smiled and shook his head, "Relax, I mean no harm. I'm just curious. I've known them forever and never heard of a friend like you. You're not family, are you?"

"Nope."

"A friend?"

"Sort of."

Yves smirked, "So how did you earn their trust?"

"By being real and having no bad intentions."

"Interesting answer." he smiled.

He asked, "Do you smoke?"

Before I could reply, he pulled out a cigar, "This one's top-notch, give it a try!"

I didn't take it and said, "Mr. Harrison, if you have something to say, just say it."

His smile faded, and he slowly blew out a puff of smoke, "Smoke this cigar and leave them."

I felt uneasy.

"Why?"

"Your name's John, right? From Sevan City, you own a few companies, and now you work at Skyliho Group. Funny thing, your boss ticked off my brother a few days ago."

Hearing him lay out my life, I was stunned.

I thought, "How did he dig up so much on me so fast?"

Then I got mad.

"Leave them, or your company won't last in Greenvale City."

I took a deep breath, "Mr. Harrison, I don't think I've wronged you, and this is about your brother!"

A flicker of surprise crossed his face.

"You can ask him."

"Fine."

He pulled out his phone and called Quinlan. Soon, Quinlan's annoyed voice came through, "What is it?"

"Do you know someone named John?"

"Yeah, why? If that's it, I'm hanging up!"

"Nothing!"

Yves hung up, but the next second, my phone rang. It was Quinlan.

Yves flicked the ash off his cigar, "Answer it!"

His tone was bossy, and it rubbed me the wrong way, but I had nothing to hide.

"Hello, what's up?"

"Are you with my brother?"

I glanced at Yves, "Yeah, I'm with him now."

"What?" Quinlan's voice shot up. "You're with him? Where are you? I'm coming over."

"No need. I'll talk to your friend and let him go soon."

"Yves, I'm telling you, John's my friend. Don't mess with him."

Yves looked at me with interest, "Don't worry, your friend is my friend. I wouldn't do that."

After hanging up, Yves said, "I'm getting more and more curious about you. How did you meet my dumb brother? And how did you earn Abigail and Wendy's trust?"
