Chapter 323 Get Lost
Seeing Desmond's attitude, Tyler immediately stood up and positioned himself in front of Katniss, asking with displeasure, "What's your problem? How are you talking to her?"
He didn't know what the relationship between Desmond and Katniss was, but it was clear that Desmond was being rude to Katniss, and Tyler wasn't about to be polite to Desmond in return.
Desmond, taken aback by Tyler's retort, finally noticed that Katniss was sitting with a guy and a girl.
Realizing how the senior had brought him to the cafeteria and then disappeared, his resentment grew even stronger.
"What business is it of yours? Who are you to Katniss? Do you think you can just butt in when I'm talking to her?"
Before Tyler could respond, Scarlett slammed her fork down and stood up, looking at Desmond with disdain.
"Get lost! Stop bothering me while I'm eating."
Scarlett was naturally arrogant, and her words were dripping with contempt, making Desmond's chest heave with anger.
Tyler clapped his hands. "Keep talking."
Scarlett snorted and turned to Katniss with a smile, "Are you done eating, Katniss?"
Katniss felt a shiver run down her spine at Scarlett's smile and nodded, "Yeah, I'm done."
"Then let's go. We don't want to be bothered by someone who's out of touch." Scarlett said, pulling Katniss along as they left.
Tyler spat in Desmond's direction and followed the two girls.
Desmond clenched his fists tightly, glaring at the trio as they walked away.
Once they were out of the cafeteria, Scarlett let go of Katniss's hand.
Katniss turned to thank them, "Thanks for standing up for me back there."
Although she wasn't afraid of Desmond, he was annoying. Without Scarlett and Tyler, Desmond might have tried to stop her.
Even though she could have used Maximilian's name to scare Desmond off, it wouldn't have stopped him from mocking her.
"Who was that guy?" Scarlett asked, crossing her arms as they walked.
Since learning that Katniss had a husband who was respected by Ethan, Scarlett had no issues with Katniss and even wanted to befriend her.
"Just someone I don't know well," Katniss replied casually.
Tyler chimed in, "He doesn't seem like a good person. Katniss, is he from Luminous City?"
Given Desmond's familiarity with Katniss and his attitude, Tyler figured he was from Luminous City.
"Yeah," Katniss said, "I have no idea why he's at Starhaven Medical University."
Katniss was there because of an invitation from the International Medical Association, but why was Desmond there?
Tyler thought for a moment before saying, "I heard we got a new exchange student today, a month later than the others. Could it be him?"
Katniss didn't pursue the matter further and headed to the library after saying goodbye.
After watching the trio leave, Desmond finished his meal angrily and went to his new dorm before contacting Clara.
He expected to be unable to reach her like before, but this time, Clara answered immediately.
Clara had been waiting for Desmond's call all day. When he finally called, she answered right away but didn't speak.
"Clara, are you still mad at me?" Desmond asked softly when he didn't hear her voice.
He knew it was wrong to come to Starhaven without telling Clara first, but he had no choice. He hoped Clara would understand and not hold a grudge.
"Desmond, I'm not mad at you. I was just worried," Clara said softly after calming down.
She was in Starhaven now and had met Johnson, whom Oliver had mentioned, but she didn't have a good impression of him.
Johnson hadn't even mentioned helping her find Katniss, leaving her uncertain.
So, if Desmond was willing to help her deal with Katniss, that would be perfect.
Desmond felt a surge of satisfaction hearing Clara's words and said, "Don't worry, Clara. Stay in Luminous City for now. When I return, we'll be together openly!"
He wasn't just in Starhaven to escape rumors; he wanted to make a name for himself in the prosperous city.
When he returned to Luminous City, no one would stop him from being with Clara.
And he would make the Elise family and Brynn regret their actions.
Clara felt reassured by Desmond's words and said softly, "Desmond, my dad sent me to Starhaven. I'm here now, too."
She hadn't contacted Desmond earlier out of pride and anger over his sudden departure.
But all those negative feelings vanished when she heard his declaration.
She couldn't wait to see him.
Desmond felt the same. Upon learning Clara was in Starhaven, he immediately asked where she was so they could meet.
They arranged to meet at a villa. When Clara saw Desmond, she tearfully complained about how Katniss had wronged her family, even twisting Laura's injury of Oliver to seem like Katniss's doing.
Desmond comforted her, saying, "I saw Katniss at Starhaven Medical University today. She's already cozying up to two locals!"
Seeing Scarlett's different attitude towards Katniss made him certain that Katniss had ingratiated herself with Scarlett and Tyler.
"Don't worry, Desmond. Katniss won't be smug for long. My dad's friend Johnson promised to deal with her!" Clara said, trying to reassure Desmond.
"Is this place Johnson's?" Desmond asked, looking around the villa, surprised that the Manners family had connections in Starhaven.
"Yes," Clara replied, "but Johnson seems busy, so it might take a few days for him to help."
