Chapter 397 Critically Ill Again

The Thompson family had been under the thumb of the Lewis family, nearly driven to the brink of ruin.

Luckily, the Lewis family didn't want to destroy them.

After a period of pressure, they eventually backed off.

But just as the Lewis family's troubles subsided, Oliver showed up, taking advantage of the situation to beat him up.

Although he managed to get Oliver arrested, he was shocked at how quickly Oliver got out and continued to harass him repeatedly.

Johnson had had enough and asked his friend Sidney to help him deal with it.

This led to Sidney and Oliver's unexpected encounter.

At this moment, a drunken Oliver was completely unaware that he was being set up, still recklessly gambling at the table.

Alcohol emboldened him, making him do things he wouldn't normally dare to do.

He won a few rounds initially, and his confidence soared.

Sidney returned and praised him, encouraging him to keep going, which made Oliver abandon his original plan to leave after a few rounds.

But most of the subsequent games didn't go his way.

Fueled by alcohol and a desire to win, he kept gambling, and after losing, he borrowed money from someone Sidney introduced to him.

Elodie was discharged from the hospital three days later, and the first thing she did was wheel herself over to find Katniss.

Clara volunteered to accompany her, looking quite excited.

Just after training, fresh out of school, Katniss spotted the two approaching.

She frowned, not even bothering to look at them, and walked away.

Conrad dutifully protected Katniss, keeping Clara and Elodie at a distance.

"Katniss, stop right there!"

Seeing Katniss completely ignore her, Elodie was furious, slamming the armrest of her wheelchair and shouting angrily.

She had just woken up not long ago, but her voice was strong, not at all like someone who had just been discharged.

Katniss didn't respond, continuing to walk forward, while Conrad turned to glare at the two, escorting Katniss out of the school.

Elodie and Clara were both intimidated by Conrad, but Clara still pushed Elodie, trailing not far behind Katniss.

Clara remained silent, but Elodie shouted, "Katniss!"

Katniss didn't even blink, continuing to walk away.

But after a few steps, she saw Desmond approaching.

Desmond deliberately blocked her path, and Conrad quickly stepped in front of Desmond.

Clara's eyes lit up when she saw Desmond, but she didn't greet him. Instead, she pleaded with Katniss, "Katniss, Mom came to see you herself. How can you not say a word to her?"

Katniss sneered, not responding to Clara, but turned to look at Elodie.

"What do you want to say?"

Desmond noticed Katniss wasn't leaving and walked over to join Elodie and Clara.

He had been running errands for Dione for the past few days, and when he received Clara's request for help, he quickly made an excuse to assist.

Elodie was infuriated by Katniss's attitude, slapping the armrest and saying, "You promised to treat Nathan. He's in critical condition now. You need to come to the hospital immediately!"

Katniss laughed coldly, "Didn't Clara tell you? I'm not treating him anymore."

She didn't even want to comment on these people, just gave Conrad a look and turned to leave.

The three tried to stop her, but several bodyguards appeared, blocking them.

Once Katniss was safely in the car with Conrad, the bodyguards followed in another vehicle.

The three were so shaken by the bodyguards that they couldn't speak for a while.

After Katniss's car and the bodyguards' car drove away, Desmond started criticizing Katniss.

Elodie and Clara were equally displeased with Katniss, their faces dark.

At that moment, Dylan from the hospital contacted them.

Nathan was in critical condition again.

They rushed to the hospital and found a despondent Dylan.

Meanwhile, Lucas in Luminous City received the news and decided to come to Starhaven.

The Manners family's business in Luminous City was already struggling, and now Nathan was in critical condition.

Lucas didn't hesitate to leave Luminous City and head to Starhaven.

"Nathan will be okay, right?" Clara's eyes were red from crying.

Everyone else felt terrible too, but there was no time to comfort her.

Only Desmond sat beside Clara, trying to console her.

"Clara, don't worry. He'll be okay."

He didn't believe his words, but still tried to comfort Clara.

"Desmond, thank you." Clara was exhausted from crying, leaning against Desmond's chest.

Before Desmond could say anything else, his phone suddenly rang with a special ringtone, startling him.

It was a ringtone Dione had set for him on a friend's suggestion.

Violette had joked that whenever he heard it, he had to rush over.

Clara noticed Desmond's reaction and looked at him curiously.

"Desmond, what's wrong?"

Desmond met her gaze, feeling panicked, and quickly said, "Nothing, I need to take this call."

He got up and walked to the end of the hallway.

Clara was left outside the emergency room, feeling blocked as she noticed Dylan and Elodie were too focused on the situation to pay attention to her.

She realized Desmond was hiding something from her.

Once Desmond was far enough, he answered Dione's call.

Since their encounter at the bar, Dione had summoned Desmond to various places several times.

Despite his injuries, Dione was unrelenting, often letting Violette torment Desmond.

Desmond had a secret that Dione held over him, ensuring he wouldn't dare complain to his father.

As soon as the call connected, Dione didn't bother with pleasantries, simply gave him an address and hung up.

Desmond clenched his fists but had no choice but to go.

After hesitating for a while, he thought of an excuse and walked back to the emergency room.

Clara watched Desmond, relieved when he returned.

She was afraid Desmond would leave her at such a critical time.

As soon as Desmond approached, Clara quickly asked, "Desmond, are you feeling unwell? You look so pale."

Desmond smiled faintly, "I'm fine, but my teacher suddenly asked me to go back to school."

He made up a lame excuse, hoping Clara wouldn't question it.

Before Clara could respond, Dylan overheard their conversation and said to Desmond, "You should go take care of your school matters. We'll wait here."

Desmond agreed, said goodbye to Elodie, and left.

Clara lowered her head, feeling that Desmond wasn't going back to school.

"Clara, come here. We need to talk to you."

Hearing Dylan's words, Clara quickly followed him.

Dylan led Clara to Elodie's side.

Elodie was staring at the emergency room door, as if willing it to open sooner.

"Dylan, what do you want to say?"

She had a feeling Dylan had deliberately sent Desmond away and that what he was about to say might be related to Desmond.
