Chapter 407 Going Crazy
He knew Emma was hinting that Desmond should get close to Maximilian, which is why she made that suggestion.
But Emma shook her head and said, "Go check on him at the hospital."
She remembered her people had roughed up Desmond, but he shouldn't have taken this long to recover.
The person realized she misunderstood and quickly clarified, "Ms. Kate, Desmond isn't there for treatment; he's visiting someone."
Emma was shocked, "Every day?"
Desmond went to the hospital every day.
Although his main reason was Clara, he indeed went to the hospital daily.
At that moment, he was in the hospital.
Elodie woke up to see Clara by her bedside.
And it was Clara who had called Desmond over.
"Ms. Smith, did you want to see me?" Desmond asked as soon as he stepped into the room, noticing Elodie's unusual expression, while Clara seemed her usual self.
Elodie sat up in bed, ignoring Desmond's question, and said to Clara, "Clara, step outside for a moment. I need to talk to him."
In her heart, Clara had always been a good kid, so she was sure that Clara had no idea about the secret matching.
It had to be Desmond's doing.
On the way to the hospital, Elodie had already subtly questioned Clara.
Clara's innocent reaction made Elodie even more certain of her suspicion.
Desmond felt a sudden tightness in his chest at Elodie's words, but he quickly composed himself and gently persuaded the hesitant Clara.
"Clara, wait outside. I'll talk to Ms. Smith for a bit." His tone was soft, trying to soothe Clara despite his anxiety.
Clara bit her lip, her suspicions growing clearer.
Before Elodie woke up, Clara had already sensed something was wrong from Dylan's condition.
Now, with Elodie wanting to see Desmond immediately upon waking, it seemed even more serious.
Elodie had spoken to her a bit before Desmond arrived.
Though Clara didn't have much energy to respond, she sensed Elodie was probing for something.
Fortunately, she managed to get through it without Elodie being displeased with her.
Clara left, and the room was now just Desmond and Elodie.
Elodie took the initiative, coldly questioning Desmond, "Do you know what I want to ask you?"
She glared at Desmond, disgusted by his decision to have the doctor do the matching.
Even if it was to save Clara, she still hated Desmond for doing it.
Desmond paused, seeing how bad Elodie's expression was, and decided to come clean.
He spoke as gently as possible, "Ms. Smith, are you angry about the matching?"
Elodie slammed the bed, angrily questioning, "You knew? Why did you still do it?"
Her sudden action startled Desmond, but he quickly responded, "Nathan asked me to do it."
Elodie's anger was instantly doused like a fire in the rain, leaving her looking utterly defeated.
Nathan's room was right next to hers, but she hadn't asked him immediately, holding onto a sliver of hope.
Hearing Desmond's words, Elodie's body trembled uncontrollably, nearly passing out again.
Seeing Elodie's eyes roll back in distress, Desmond quickly moved to support her.
Thankfully, Elodie didn't pass out.
But just as Desmond sighed in relief, Elodie, unable to accept the truth, suddenly clawed at his face.
"You're lying! Nathan would never do that! Impossible!"
She screamed, her voice hoarse and crazed.
Desmond tried to pull back, but Elodie held onto his arm tightly.
He used force to retreat, almost pulling Elodie off the bed, and quickly steadied her.
"Ms. Smith, calm down."
Desmond tried to soothe Elodie, even though her nails dug painfully into his arm, he gritted his teeth and endured it.
Elodie couldn't hear him, screaming uncontrollably, "Admit you're lying!"
Desmond's head throbbed, and he could only whisper, "I'm lying, Ms. Smith, please let go of me."
He was in so much pain from Elodie's grip and didn't want to hear her crazed accusations.
"Ms. Smith, I was lying before. Please let go."
Desmond thought his words would make Elodie release him, but to his surprise, she tightened her grip and screamed louder.
"So you were lying! Desmond, I knew you had bad intentions!"
Her voice was shrill, more terrifying than before.
The door burst open, and Clara's voice rang out, "Mom? What's going on?"
Elodie's screams were so distressing that Clara couldn't help but rush in.
But neither person in the room paid her any mind.
Elodie was consumed with making Desmond pay.
Desmond, trying to fend off Elodie without hurting her, looked extremely frustrated and pained.
Clara rushed to the bedside, seeing the two almost fighting, her heart tightened.
"Desmond? Mom? What are you..." Clara hurried to the bed, wanting to separate them but unsure how.
"Clara?" Desmond finally heard her. Seeing her approach, he feared she might get hurt too, and quickly said, "Clara, don't come closer. Go get the doctor for a sedative."
Elodie's state was uncontrollable, and he didn't want Clara to get hurt.
"Mom?" Clara was anxious, seeing Elodie's condition, she called out, "Mom? Desmond, what's wrong with my mom?"
Her voice was low, and in the chaotic environment, only Desmond, who was partially focused on her, heard it.
Elodie didn't hear it at all.
"Clara, don't come closer, get the doctor! A sedative!" Desmond almost shouted.
To shout this, he even neglected to block Elodie, who bit him hard.
Elodie heard the word "sedative" and saw Clara.
She bit Desmond, her voice muffled, "Clara, he's trying to hurt Nathan!"
Clara, about to call for help, froze at her words.
"Clara! Go now." Desmond shouted.
Clara, filled with doubt, looked at the two again, seeing Elodie not only grabbing Desmond but repeatedly trying to bite him.
She suppressed her thoughts and finally pressed the call button.
Pressing the button wasn't enough, she rushed out of the room.
