Chapter 511 Nothing to Do

"Ms. Manners nailed it," Emma's assistant quickly replied to Clara, adding, "If Ms. Manners doesn't want to meet him, she doesn't have to."

"Of course, I don't want to see him!"

Clara didn't want to see Ryan!

Whether it was before or now, she wished Ryan would just drop dead!

Ever since Ryan had blackmailed her with photos to keep seeing him, she had wanted him gone.

Now that Ryan was locked up, she wanted to celebrate with fireworks, not visit him.

Having to meet Ryan for Emma's sake before was already disgusting enough!

Clara's firm and quick response made the man pause before saying, "Then Ms. Manners doesn't need to go. Ms. Kate has already taken care of Ryan."

Clara finally breathed a sigh of relief.

But thinking about the task she had to complete that afternoon, her heart grew heavy again.

However, the thought of soon returning to Luminous City and marrying Desmond filled her with anticipation, replacing the heaviness in her heart.

Meanwhile, Katniss had lunch and then went with Maximilian to meet the two officers.

The officers were polite to Katniss, and the questioning went quickly, as if the police had already decided that Ryan's accusations against Katniss were baseless, and they were just going through the motions.

After the questioning, Katniss finally understood the whole situation.

"So, Emma had Clara get Ryan to accuse me just to mess with me?"

Katniss found the whole thing quite convoluted. Emma had too much time on her hands.

"Wait, how do you know all this?" Katniss asked Maximilian, puzzled.

He knew even the details Clara had passed on. Did Maximilian have a mole in Emma's camp?

Katniss's thoughts were all over the place.

She had been taking exams all morning and had another one in the afternoon. She should have been relaxing her mind.

Maximilian said, "I had a falling out with Emma."

"What?" Katniss was shocked again.

What did a falling out have to do with knowing all these details?

As she wondered, Maximilian continued, "She said all this to annoy me."

And she hadn't called him directly but had used Chris's phone.

Maybe Emma had been so upset after leaving Chris that she wanted to call Maximilian, only to find out he had blocked her. In a fit of rage, she had vented all the details to Chris, asking him to pass them on to Maximilian.

Katniss didn't know the specifics but could guess how smug Emma must have been when she said those things. She shook her head helplessly.

She didn't care about Emma.

But knowing Emma was the heir to the Kate family, Katniss was a bit worried about Maximilian's company.

The thought crossed her mind, and she voiced her concern.

"Will the company's development in Starhaven be affected?"

Maximilian looked at her with gentle eyes, "Don't worry, everything will be fine."

Katniss nodded but couldn't stop thinking about Emma.

She glanced at Maximilian, her face still showing worry. She opened her mouth to speak but then closed it again, unsure of what to say.

Seeing her like this, Maximilian sighed.

"As long as Emma doesn't go crazy, the company won't be affected."

At least for now, that was the case.

Whether Emma would go crazy was uncertain and unpredictable.

But if Emma did lose it, she would do something harmful.

Katniss asked curiously, "Why?"

Maximilian patiently explained, "Emma messed with the Kate family's business this time. They won't let her act out again for a while."

"Okay." Katniss didn't fully understand, but looked at Maximilian with bright eyes. His demeanor always captivated her.

Maximilian, seeing her gaze, thought of something but decided not to mention it.

He remembered Patrick mentioning that the Manners family was returning to Luminous City today.

Katniss never wanted to be involved with the Manners family, so he saw no need to bring it up.

Especially since Katniss's exams weren't over yet.

"Take a good rest."

Thinking about how the police had disturbed her earlier, Maximilian said this.

Katniss, indeed not in the mood to talk more, nodded in agreement.

She hadn't rested long before it was time to head to the exam room in the afternoon.

Maximilian, just like in the morning, escorted her to the exam room and then returned to the hotel.

Around three o'clock, while reviewing documents, Maximilian received a call from Gabriel.

Maximilian's reaction to Gabriel calling at this time was quite calm.

He answered the call but didn't speak.

Gabriel, as usual, greeted Maximilian familiarly.

"Maximilian," Gabriel's voice sounded a bit weary, though it was unclear if it was genuine or an act.

Maximilian responded coolly, "What do you want?"

His tone was so cold that Gabriel's prepared words got stuck in his throat.

Gabriel started but then paused, sighing deeply.

The sigh was too obvious for Maximilian to ignore, but he did so anyway, saying, "If you have nothing to say, don't bother me."

"Don't hang up!" Gabriel quickly shouted, his urgency and anxiety clear.

Maximilian didn't hang up, waiting silently for Gabriel to continue.

Gabriel, hearing the line still open, knew Maximilian was listening.

"Maximilian, Desmond is getting married in three days. Can you come back?"

He spoke cautiously, not like a father to his son.

Gabriel no longer dared to treat Maximilian as the child he once was.

Maximilian was beyond his control now.

Gabriel, though frustrated, knew he couldn't let Maximilian sense it.

Desmond's wedding was crucial. Maximilian had to be there!

Since Maximilian moved to Starhaven and Desmond's incident, rumors had spread in Luminous City that Maximilian didn't care about the Boleyn family.

Even if Gabriel knew those rumors were somewhat true, he couldn't let them continue.

He needed to stabilize the Boleyn family, at least until Desmond took over. If Desmond proved useless, Gabriel would ensure the Boleyn Group went to Desmond's child.

Thinking this, Gabriel felt a surge of emotion.

Over the years, he had to admit, despite his reluctance, that Desmond, born from his beloved Emily, couldn't compare to Maximilian.

But if Desmond couldn't surpass Maximilian, Gabriel would raise someone who could!

He would never admit he was wrong back then!

After her rebirth
