Chapter 477 Think of Another Way
"She will," Lucas reassured Elodie, holding her close.
Despite Lucas's comforting words, Elodie clung to Dylan, her grip tight.
"Mom, don't worry too much. Katniss can't keep me locked up forever," Dylan said, trying to ease her anxiety.
Elodie turned to look at Dylan's worn-out face, her heart aching.
"Dylan, you've been through so much."
If she hadn't given birth to Katniss, her sons wouldn't be suffering like this.
Their home was nearly destroyed because of Katniss.
Dylan quickly shook his head, noticing Elodie's worried expression.
He felt a surge of concern and continued, "Mom, don't stress about it. We'll deal with Katniss. She won't get away with this."
Elodie felt somewhat reassured by his words, her emotions starting to settle.
"Dylan's right," Lucas said, guiding Elodie outside. "Mom, let me help you get some rest."
After Elodie's emotional episode, Lucas didn't want her to stay and hear more of their conversation.
Dylan added, "Mom, you should rest outside for a bit."
This time, Elodie didn't resist.
Her emotions had been too turbulent, and she hadn't fully calmed down. She didn't have the strength to stay.
Lucas soon returned after escorting Elodie out.
The two exchanged a glance, seeing the exhaustion and helplessness in each other's eyes.
"Lucas, next time, don't bring Mom. She's getting older and can't handle too much stress."
Dylan knew he must look pretty rough, which was why Elodie had such a strong reaction upon seeing him.
He was worried about her health and didn't want her to see him like this.
Lucas nodded, "Okay."
"If you can't figure out who's putting pressure on us, don't sweat it. I'll be out when the time comes," Dylan said, trying to ease Lucas's worries about his bail.
From the moment he was locked up, Dylan had gradually come to terms with the situation.
Initially, he didn't mention bail to Elodie to avoid causing her stress.
He didn't want Elodie to know about the possibility of bail, fearing Katniss's people might make things difficult for her.
But Elodie had called Lucas to Luminous City, and once Lucas arrived, Dylan didn't oppose the bail process.
However, they soon discovered he couldn't be bailed out, and they couldn't find out who was behind it.
Katniss denied involvement, leaving Lucas with no leads.
Dylan listed everyone he might have offended, but none seemed suspicious.
Lucas finally decided, "Let's assume it's Katniss."
Even if Katniss didn't admit to it, they would hold her accountable for Dylan's suffering.
"Alright, Lucas, we'll talk when I'm out," Dylan sighed, accepting his fate.
Lucas nodded, then suddenly said, "Clara might be getting married."
"What?" Dylan was stunned.
His confusion was evident, and Lucas explained, "To Desmond. They're planning to have the wedding in Luminous City, so we'll probably head back together."
Dylan quickly asked, "When are we going back? Will I make it in time?"
A wedding, no matter how urgent, couldn't be that rushed.
Dylan estimated that even if the wedding was announced now, it would take at least half a month to prepare, possibly longer if done formally.
With the wedding in Luminous City, he could return there and leave Starhaven behind.
Dylan had longed to return to Luminous City, where he had always thrived as a top doctor. His life in Starhaven had been anything but smooth.
Lucas looked troubled. "Within three days."
"Three days?" Dylan asked, then realized, "Three days to get married?"
Lucas nodded, confirming, "Desmond proposed it."
Seeing the anger in Dylan's eyes, Lucas added, "Clara supports it. She wants to return to Luminous City and marry Desmond soon."
Lucas's opinion of Desmond had soured after learning about his interest in Nathan's kidney.
Though he missed Desmond's return to Luminous City, his feelings weren't as strong as Dylan's or Elodie's.
Lucas was also displeased that Oliver, who rarely involved himself in family matters, had a hand in this wedding.
But he knew that an alliance with the Boleyn family was beneficial for the Manners family.
"I won't make it to Clara's wedding, will I?" Dylan asked suddenly.
If the wedding was in three days, he would be detained and unable to attend.
Lucas said, "I'll find a way."
Regardless of Clara's wedding plans, Lucas would do his best to get Dylan out.
If previous methods failed, he might try a riskier approach.
He thought of Emma from Maximilian's company, who had followed Maximilian's car just like him.
