Chapter 402 Please Call Me Mrs. Hamilton

The man lurking in the shadows signaled to the thug.

The thug turned to Dylan and demanded, "A hundred grand."

Dylan's face tightened, but before he could respond, Oliver snapped at the thug, "What? How did it jump to a hundred grand?"

The thug raised his fist threateningly.

Dylan quickly held Oliver back and said to the thug, "I don't have that kind of cash on me right now."

Dylan had assessed the basement scene as soon as he arrived.

He knew the shadowy figure was the one calling the shots, but since that person didn't want to engage, he didn't push it.

As for whether Oliver owed a hundred grand, Dylan realized they had no room to haggle.

The thug seemed satisfied with Dylan's understanding and glanced at the man in the shadows.

Finally, the man in the shadows spoke.

"Bring it by tomorrow, or you know what happens."

Dylan exhaled in relief and agreed.

After agreeing, Dylan took Oliver and left.

Oliver was badly beaten and in pain, but he knew they couldn't linger, so he hurried along.

Soon, Dylan brought Oliver back to their place.

As soon as they got home, Dylan called Lucas.

In the Manners family, Lucas was the only one who could come up with a hundred grand on short notice, since he managed the family business.

After explaining Oliver's mess to Lucas, Dylan felt utterly drained.

When he left his room, he saw that Oliver was also on the phone, seemingly unable to get through to someone.

He walked over to Oliver and asked, "Why didn't you go back to Luminous City?"

Oliver was always causing trouble.

After he got into a fight with Johnson and ended up in jail, Dylan told him to go back to Luminous City.

But not only did Oliver not go back, he went to a casino and racked up debt.

Dylan had even bought Oliver a ticket and personally taken him to the airport.

It was only when he got a call about Nathan's illness that he left Oliver to wait for the flight on his own.

"Do I need your permission to go anywhere?" Oliver snapped, failing to reach Sidney on the phone.

He slumped onto the couch, wincing in pain and frustration.

He felt like Sidney had set him up.

Dylan gave Oliver a cold look and said, "Pack your things. I'm taking you to the airport in a bit."

Without waiting for a response, he turned away, determined to get Oliver on that plane this time.

Oliver was unhappy but didn't argue, knowing that the hundred grand would have to come from Dylan, whether he got it from Lucas or someone else.

Dylan was worn out by Oliver's antics, while Katniss enjoyed the peace.

Maximilian had left for work early, and Katniss spent the morning reading, with no plans to go out.

But after breakfast, someone came to visit.

When Conrad told her that Emma was at the gate, Katniss was surprised.

Emma had struck out with Maximilian again, and now came directly to her?

She went downstairs and saw Emma through the villa's gate.

Unlike her usual flamboyant style, Emma looked more businesslike today.

"Ms. Manners, can we talk?" Emma asked with a wink as Katniss approached.

Katniss frowned, not liking Emma's uninvited visit, but since she was alone, she decided to let her in.

"Ms. Kate, since you've come all this way, I can't refuse," Katniss said.

Conrad understood and opened the gate for Emma.

"Thank you, Mrs. Hamilton," Emma said with a smile as she walked in.

Katniss led her to the sitting room.

Once they were seated, she asked, "What do you want to talk about, Ms. Kate?"

This wasn't the first time Emma had sought her out, and Katniss was tired of the pretense.

She wanted to get straight to the point.

Emma smiled confidently. "It's simple. I'm interested in Mr. Hamilton. Why don't you step aside?"

Katniss's brow furrowed immediately.

Emma was deliberately provoking her, blatantly.

"Conrad, show her out," Katniss said coldly, standing up without giving Emma another glance.

Emma hadn't expected Katniss to get angry so quickly and not even respond to her.

She stood up to follow Katniss but was blocked by Conrad. "Ms. Kate, this way, please."

Conrad pointed to the door, clearly having anticipated Emma's short visit.

He hadn't even closed the door when she came in.

Emma stomped her foot in frustration and shouted at Katniss, who was disappearing up the stairs, "Is this how Mrs. Hamilton treats her guests?"

Katniss paused. "You're not a guest. And call me Mrs. Hamilton."

With that, she turned and went upstairs.

Conrad didn't give Emma a chance to argue, firmly escorting her out.

Emma struggled but couldn't break free and was forced out of the villa.

As Conrad closed the gate, he threw one last remark at Emma, "Don't think Mrs. Hamilton is easy to bully."

The bodyguard waiting nearby rushed over when he saw Emma being kicked out. "Ms. Kate, Katniss treated you like this..."

Emma cut him off with a wave. "How's it going with Maximilian's company?"

"We still haven't scheduled a meeting," the bodyguard replied quietly.

Emma's anger flared. "Still can't get a meeting? Are you useless?"

Even though she suspected Maximilian was avoiding her, Emma was still furious.

"Ms. Kate, Mr. Hamilton might be busy. Should we keep pressuring Katniss?" the bodyguard suggested, trying to deflect her anger.

Emma's rage shifted back to Katniss. She had been trying to get to Katniss to find a way to reach Maximilian.

Today, she finally got to talk to Katniss, but she hadn't expected Katniss to be so bold as to kick her out after just one sentence.

Thinking about Katniss made her even angrier.

Didn't Katniss fear what she might do? She was the heir to the Kate family!

In all of Starhaven, no one dared to openly challenge the Kate family!

"Pressure? We can't even see her. How do we pressure her?" Emma snapped.

The bodyguard, sweating, suggested, "Maybe we should confront her at school?"

"Stupid idea. We'll wait for her at Starhaven Medical University," Emma decided, thinking Katniss was a student there.

"School? She's not a student at Starhaven Medical University," the bodyguard said quietly.

"Find out everything about Katniss," Emma ordered, frustrated that her people hadn't done their job.

She was annoyed by their inefficiency but decided it wasn't too late to investigate.

She wanted to see what Katniss was capable of besides being Maximilian's wife.

Her people quickly got to work, while Emma continued to fret over how to meet Maximilian.

Suddenly, she remembered Desmond, who had been beaten by her people before.

After her rebirth
