Chapter 378 They Are the Real Couple

Chris put her worries aside and continued, "The collaboration she suggested should help our development in Starhaven. That's why Maximilian agreed to meet with her. But don't stress, Katniss. Maximilian's all about you. He'd never betray you."

Chris had seen firsthand how much Maximilian cared for Katniss over the past few months, and he was anxious to avoid any misunderstandings.

Katniss nodded and smiled, "I know. Don't worry, Yasmin already tried to test Maximilian in Luminous City. She's just not giving up."

Katniss spoke confidently, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders.

Even though she was now Maximilian's wife, she sometimes felt like everything she had was stolen. But she knew her job was simple: to keep Maximilian by her side.

Thinking about how Maximilian's condition had improved with her care and companionship, Katniss felt that they were truly meant to be together.

In her past life, Maximilian had died young, and Yasmin only became his wife after his death. That marriage didn't count for anything.

With this realization, Katniss felt a sense of clarity.

She had never taken anything from anyone.

Hearing Katniss say this, Chris finally felt relieved.

"Katniss, wait here. I'll go tell Maximilian to come out early," Chris said, ready to fetch Maximilian.

Katniss shook her head, "No need. I'll wait."

Chris nodded and went back to his work.

It wasn't long before Maximilian returned to the office.

Seeing her there, his usually stern expression softened.

"You're here? Why didn't you have Chris call me?"

If he had known Katniss was waiting, he wouldn't have spent so much time with Yasmin.

The proposal Yasmin brought was indeed beneficial for their development in Starhaven, but Yasmin's intentions were questionable.

The Thorne family had more than one representative, and if things fell through with Yasmin, Maximilian could always contact another.

As long as the Thorne family wanted to do business, he didn't need to worry about Yasmin.

Katniss replied, "It's fine. You're here now."

She hadn't waited long.

"Why did you come so early?"

Katniss knew his schedule well, so coming early meant she had something important to discuss.

Katniss explained, "Starting tomorrow, I have a two-day mid-term training test in the Amber District. I have to leave tonight."

"So you're here to say goodbye," Maximilian said.

Katniss nodded, "I'll be back in two days. Don't worry."

Though she said that, Katniss was reluctant to leave.

During her time in Starhaven, Maximilian had been by her side almost constantly. They were always together whenever they had free time.

Being apart for a few days would be tough for both of them.

Maximilian sighed, "Let Conrad go with you."

Yasmin's timing was unfortunate. If it weren't for the Thorne family's business, he would have accompanied Katniss to the Amber District.

But both Yasmin and the Thorne family insisted that he handle the collaboration personally.

He couldn't trust anyone else with this, so he agreed.

Katniss nodded.

They didn't talk much longer, knowing Maximilian had other things to attend to. She mentioned going back to pack.

Maximilian wanted to see her off, but she stopped him.

"Conrad is waiting downstairs. Don't worry," she said, feeling a pang of reluctance as she hugged Maximilian.

Maximilian held her close, unable to resist kissing her.

Katniss blushed but didn't resist.

It was a small compensation for their brief separation.

After a tender kiss, Maximilian released her lips but kept his arms around her. "Good luck with the test. Come back soon."

Katniss whispered, "I will."

She left the office with a racing heart and soon saw a familiar face by the elevator.

Yasmin's bright smile faltered when she saw Katniss.

Katniss stepped into the elevator confidently, greeting her, "Ms. Thorne."

"Ms. Manners," Yasmin replied, making room and asking with forced casualness, "Are you here to check on Maximilian?"

Everyone knew about Katniss and Maximilian's relationship. But Yasmin's feelings for Maximilian persisted, driven by both the Thorne family's interests and her affection.

She looked down on Katniss, believing that someone as exceptional as Maximilian deserved someone equally outstanding, not someone like Katniss, who lacked family background and other notable qualities.

Katniss smiled, glancing at Yasmin's suitcase. "You're joking, Ms. Thorne. I trust Maximilian."

Yasmin's expression stiffened.

Katniss continued, "And if you acknowledge my role, you should call me Mrs. Hamilton."

Yasmin's expression darkened.

She hadn't expected Katniss to change so much in such a short time.

But Yasmin had no choice but to comply.

"Mrs. Hamilton, you're very gracious," Yasmin said, her smile strained.

The elevator doors opened, and Katniss smiled back, "Thank you, Ms. Thorne."

They exited the elevator separately. Conrad was waiting by the car. Seeing Yasmin, he frowned.

Yasmin, watching Katniss and Conrad, felt even more frustrated.

She had come to Starhaven alone, eager to see Maximilian. But she hadn't expected to run into Katniss.

And Chris's odd looks after their meeting didn't help.

Despite everything, Yasmin quickly contacted her relatives in Starhaven to regroup.
After her rebirth
