Chapter 383 He Is Not As Good-Looking As You
The guy couldn't stand Desmond's stammering and hesitation, so he cut straight to the chase, "Your brother pissed someone off. You better get over here, apologize to her, and take your brother away."
Maximilian asked, "Pissed someone off? Who are you?"
The guy glanced at Emma, who had her phone on speaker, so she heard Maximilian's voice.
Emma lazily curled her lips and extended her hand.
The guy quickly handed the phone over, and Emma casually responded as Maximilian asked again, "It's me, Emma Kate."
With that, Emma hung up the phone and tossed it onto Desmond.
Desmond, hit by the phone, realized they had only exchanged a few words before the call was cut off.
Worried, he asked, "Why did you hang up? What if Maximilian..."
"Afraid he won't come?" Emma looked at him amusedly. "If he doesn't come today, you'll be dead by tomorrow."
Seeing Desmond shiver in fear, Emma shook her head in boredom. "Relax, as long as he's smart enough to recognize the Kate family name, he'll come."
"But," Desmond wanted to say more, but didn't notice Emma's growing impatience.
The guy, seeing Emma's displeasure, kicked Desmond. "Stop talking nonsense. If we beat you to a pulp, do you think he won't come?"
Desmond felt helpless.
He had planned to ask Maximilian for help, but the guy had snatched the phone and spoken in a way that sounded like a threat to Maximilian.
What if Maximilian misunderstood and thought he was in cahoots with these people?
The more Desmond thought about it, the more scared he became, but he didn't dare to speak up.
Fortunately, Maximilian arrived in the end.
When Maximilian arrived, Desmond was still lying on the ground, trying to make himself as inconspicuous as possible.
The private room door was knocked on and then pushed open.
Maximilian didn't come alone; he was accompanied by Patrick and a few bodyguards.
This was on Patrick's advice.
After hearing the Kate family name, Maximilian had immediately planned to go.
Chris, worried about his safety, had called Patrick to go with him.
Patrick had also suggested bringing along some bodyguards.
They looked more like they were here to cause trouble than to rescue someone.
As soon as Desmond saw Maximilian, he scrambled up from the ground and rushed towards him like he had seen his savior.
"Maximilian, you finally came."
He looked bruised and battered, but he seemed much more energetic than before.
Emma was about to mock Desmond when she saw Maximilian.
For a moment, Emma was stunned.
This man was handsome, she thought, and didn't hold back her words, "Are you his family? You two don't look alike. He's not as good-looking as you."
Maximilian glanced at Emma and signaled the bodyguards behind him to help Desmond up.
But Emma's men quickly dragged Desmond back and unceremoniously pressed him at Emma's feet.
"What did he do, Ms. Kate, to deserve such a heavy hand?"
Desmond looked truly pitiful, and it was clear Emma had done this on purpose.
Although Maximilian didn't feel sorry for Desmond, he needed to get to the bottom of things now that he was here.
Emma leisurely crossed her legs and said, "He offended me. My men didn't like it and decided to teach him a lesson. I'm still not over it. If you apologize on his behalf, I might feel better, and my men might let him go."
As she spoke, her eyes roamed unabashedly over Maximilian.
Maximilian, tall and handsome in his suit, stood out in the private room. His demeanor was different from everyone else around.
Emma liked Maximilian's cold and aloof aura, and her eyes couldn't help but trace his figure.
Maximilian frowned frequently; he didn't like the way Emma was looking at him.
"What did Desmond do to offend you?"
"How did he offend me?" Emma chuckled and shook her head slightly, glancing at Desmond. "Why don't you let him tell you himself?"
Desmond, terrified by her, instinctively panicked, "I was wrong, I was wrong!"
Maximilian frowned at Desmond.
"See, he admits he was wrong. Do I still need to explain?" Emma looked at Maximilian, smiling playfully.
Patrick, noticing Emma's strange gaze at Maximilian, leaned in and whispered something to him.
"That woman keeps looking at you. Her attitude towards you is very odd."
Hearing this, Maximilian's instincts told him not to get entangled with Emma any further.
He said, "Ms. Kate, if you insist on an apology, I'll have to leave him with you."
With that, Maximilian turned to leave without even glancing at Desmond, who was still being held by Emma's men.
Emma was stunned, and Desmond was even more shocked. "Maximilian?"
Seeing Maximilian about to leave the private room, Emma couldn't help but call out, "Wait, since you're already here, how can I let you leave empty-handed?"
Maximilian stopped but didn't turn around.
Emma continued, "Take him back. Consider it a favor for meeting you."
With a gesture, Desmond was brought to Maximilian. The bodyguards looked at Maximilian for instructions.
Maximilian nodded, and they took Desmond, who seemed to relax completely, going limp as the bodyguards supported him.
"Thank you, Ms. Kate," Maximilian said, ready to leave.
"What's your name?" Emma didn't stop him but asked from behind.
She still didn't know his name, thinking that eventually, he would fall into her hands.
For now, she wanted to leave a good first impression.
"Maximilian," he replied calmly, then asked, "Is there anything else, Ms. Kate?"
"Maximilian," Emma repeated his name, looking at his perfect face, and introduced herself, "I'm Emma."
The man beside Emma was surprised by her sudden introduction, then understood as he saw the way she looked at Maximilian, lowering his head in realization.
Maximilian nodded in acknowledgment and said, "If there's nothing else, Ms. Kate, I'll be on my way."
"What?" Emma, hearing his intention to leave, wanted to stop him, but the man beside her whispered something.
Emma glanced at Maximilian again, feeling a bit unwilling, but let him go. "Then you may leave."
Maximilian signaled for the bodyguards to support Desmond in front, while he and Patrick followed behind.
As they left the private room and went downstairs, Patrick waited until the bodyguards were a bit ahead before speaking to Maximilian.
"That Emma seems very interested in you."
"What do you mean?"
Earlier, when Patrick had said Emma was acting strange, Maximilian thought he meant her personality. Now, hearing this, he was puzzled.
"Didn't you notice the way she was looking at you?"
Patrick knew Maximilian could be a bit dense in these matters, especially since his heart was set on Katniss.
But he hadn't expected that even with Emma practically throwing herself at him, Maximilian hadn't noticed a thing.
Patrick couldn't help but find it a bit unbelievable.
