Chapter 384 A Wife Waiting at Home

Maximilian replied curtly, "No signs," thinking about the Kate family's history. He frowned and added, "They're trouble."

Patrick nodded in agreement. "Yeah, Emma's definitely trouble. What do we do now? Just make sure she doesn't latch onto you."

The private room door opened again, and Emma, leading a few others, followed closely behind Maximilian and Patrick.

Without turning around, Maximilian knew who was behind them. He kept walking, his tone not particularly pleasant as he muttered, "She's already latched on."

Patrick glanced back and saw Emma's bold and seductive face. He cursed under his breath and quickly caught up with Maximilian, who had already pulled ahead.

Emma and her entourage followed at a leisurely pace until both groups exited the bar.

The night deepened outside the bar.

As Maximilian approached his car, the lead bodyguard was helping Desmond by the roadside.

"Lucas,"

Desmond shivered instinctively when he saw Maximilian and called out softly.

Maximilian glanced at him but said nothing.

Desmond, however, understood the warning in Maximilian's eyes and dared not speak further. Especially when he saw Emma and her bodyguards emerging from the bar, his body trembled uncontrollably.

Maximilian noticed Emma and scanned the two cars they had arrived in.

He called over a bodyguard, "Two of you take me and Patrick, the rest take him to the hospital."

Understanding Maximilian's instructions, two bodyguards immediately opened the car door for him, while the remaining bodyguards took Desmond to another car without a word.

"Mr. Hamilton, in such a hurry to leave?" Emma tried to strike up a conversation as Maximilian got into the car, completely ignoring her.

Maximilian didn't stop until he was seated in the back and the door was closed.

He replied indifferently, "I have a wife waiting at home."

Without caring about Emma's reaction, he instructed the bodyguard to drive.

As the car started, Emma's voice still drifted in, "Mr. Hamilton, take care. I'm sure we'll meet again soon."

Patrick, sitting next to Maximilian, saw Emma's smug expression clearly and couldn't help but comment, "You mentioned having a wife, and Emma still acts like that."

Maximilian closed his eyes to rest, but his displeasure was evident.

After driving for a while, Patrick noticed a car tailing them.

"Emma's got someone following us."

"Following?" Maximilian checked the rearview mirror and indeed saw several cars trailing them.

Patrick said, "Maximilian, you need to be careful with Emma. The Kate family is full of troublemakers. Her brother just died, and she came back to the bar and started a fight. Plus, she's the heir to the Kate family. It's a real mess."

Maximilian responded, "Try to lose the cars behind us. Head to the office."

The bodyguard immediately took action.

After several strategic red lights, they managed to lose the trailing cars.

In Emma's car, the driver cautiously said, "Ms. Kate, we lost them at a red light."

"Why wait for a red light? You should've run it," Emma scolded coldly.

The man next to Emma tried to soothe her, "It's okay. I've got people looking into him. We'll find out tonight."

Emma snapped, "Get his number for me as soon as possible."

Thinking about Maximilian's last words about having a wife, Emma's brows furrowed slightly, but it didn't bother her for long.

Having a wife wouldn't stop her from getting what she wanted; it was just a minor obstacle.

The man nodded and suggested, "Let's head back since we lost them."

Patrick finally relaxed after losing the tailing cars.

Maximilian continued to rest with his eyes closed.

Meanwhile, the other car had already headed to the hospital. Despite being close to Serenity Health Institute, Desmond insisted on going to a smaller hospital.

Desmond didn't have any open wounds, though he was badly beaten and in pain; it wasn't serious.

Even so, he trembled in pain as the doctor applied medication.

Once treated, he refused to stay at the hospital and insisted that the bodyguards take him home.

As the bodyguards were about to leave, he quickly called Maximilian.

"Maximilian, I don't want to stay at the hospital. I want to go home. What if Emma comes after me again?"

His voice trembled, but was clear.

"Let them take you home," Maximilian ordered without hesitation.

The bodyguards paused their departure.

Desmond felt slightly relieved and timidly asked, "Maximilian, will Emma come after me again? Can you have them keep protecting me?"

Normally, Desmond wouldn't dare make such a request.

But Emma had left a terrifying impression, and with Maximilian having just saved him, he instinctively sought his protection.

However, Maximilian's response was nearly cold, "If you're scared, go back to Luminous City."

"But..." Desmond tried to protest, but only heard the busy tone of a disconnected call.

His reputation in Luminous City was already in shambles; returning was not an option.

Moreover, Clara was in Starhaven, needing a kidney transplant. He couldn't leave her alone and return to Luminous City.

The bodyguards dutifully dropped Desmond off at his rented apartment. As soon as he got out, the car drove away.

Watching the car disappear, Desmond clenched his fists, his face dark, and limped upstairs.

Once home, he immediately called Gabriel to discuss finding a kidney for Clara.

Meanwhile, Maximilian had just returned to the office when he received a call from an unknown number.

He hung up without a second thought.

The caller persisted, and the phone rang again.

Eventually, he answered.

A familiar voice came through, "Mr. Hamilton, why didn't you answer my calls?"

Emma's voice was playful and seductive, filled with boldness and confidence.

Maximilian asked calmly, "Ms. Kate, what do you need?"

"Can't I call you just because?" Emma laughed lightly.

Maximilian didn't want to waste time on idle chatter, but he couldn't easily provoke the Kate family heir. He replied evenly, "If there's nothing important, I'll hang up."

"Mr. Hamilton, you really can't take a joke. Are you mad at me? Those people following you weren't sent by me, just some overzealous subordinates."

Maximilian replied indifferently, "Then please manage your subordinates better."

He didn't believe Emma's excuse. Someone like her wouldn't have subordinates acting on their own.

It was clearly Emma's doing, now shifting the blame to her subordinates to give Maximilian a better impression.

But wasn't that just treating him like a fool?

"I'll manage them, but I'm not good at it. Maybe you could teach me, Mr. Hamilton?" Emma's tone was leisurely, "You've done well in Starhaven, surely you know how to manage people."

"Not interested," Maximilian's patience was wearing thin. He said this and prepared to hang up.

After her rebirth
