Chapter 448 No Brother

"Nathan," Lucas greeted, managing a rare smile, though his sickly appearance made it look weak and pale.

Lucas felt a pang of sympathy for Nathan, who had been tormented by illness for so long.

He quickly tried to comfort him, "Nathan, you need to take good care of yourself."

Nathan nodded obediently, but there wasn't much for them to talk about.

The Manners family was currently dealing with a lot of troubling issues, and there weren't many pleasant topics to discuss.

After a few exchanged words, the two fell into silence.

Elodie, worried about Dylan, casually asked, "Lucas, are you going to see Dylan first, or head straight to Katniss?"

Elodie unconsciously lowered her tone as she spoke, not even realizing it herself.

Nathan glanced at Elodie, his eyes drifting to Lucas.

Dylan remained calm, showing no unusual reaction to Elodie's question.

Nathan quickly understood.

Lucas had come to Starhaven because of Dylan, likely at Elodie's request.

Recalling what he had heard from the police earlier, Nathan couldn't help but speak up, "Lucas, about Dylan getting arrested, it was because he..."

But before he could finish, Lucas interrupted, "Nathan, you should rest. I'll talk to Mom."

Lucas was there for Dylan, and Elodie had already told him over the phone that to get Dylan out quickly, he needed to talk to Katniss.

Thinking about all the things he'd heard about Katniss recently, Lucas frowned.

He didn't want Nathan to worry, so he suggested that Nathan rest.

Nathan shook his head and looked at Lucas, saying, "I'm not tired. You're here to discuss how to get Dylan out, right?"

Lucas nodded, "Yes, Dylan's situation could go either way. I'll talk to Katniss and ask her to release him."

Mentioning Katniss, Lucas frowned, as if recalling unpleasant memories.

Nathan pressed his lips together, seeing Lucas's confident demeanor, and decided not to say what he had been thinking.

It wouldn't be appropriate to tell Lucas that Dylan had brought this on himself and to avoid bothering Katniss.

Elodie, sensing Nathan's thoughts, frowned and said, "Nathan, you should rest. I'll talk to Lucas outside."

With that, Elodie stood up.

She didn't blame Nathan, just thought he was too sick to think clearly and was even afraid of Katniss.

Previously, they couldn't do much about Katniss because they were alone in Starhaven, and Nathan was unwell, so Katniss wasn't afraid.

But now, Lucas was here.

Lucas was the heir to the Manners family.

Surely, Katniss would listen to him, right?

With these thoughts, Elodie walked out of the ward.

Seeing Nathan's troubled expression, Lucas reassured him with a few words before following Elodie out.

Once outside, Elodie asked again, "Lucas, have you decided?"

Lucas nodded, "I'll see Dylan first to understand the situation."

Elodie wasn't entirely pleased but said, "You should see him. It's been a while since you two met."

Lucas asked which police station Dylan was being held at and prepared to leave, not intending to go with Elodie.

Elodie watched Lucas's back and then called Clara.

Clara's phone still didn't connect, making Elodie anxious.

After some thought, she headed home.

Before long, Lucas found Dylan.

Dylan was surprised to see Lucas. "Lucas, what are you doing here?"

Lucas sighed, "Mom asked me to come. You can't stay locked up forever. I'm here to understand the situation and then talk to Katniss."

Dylan felt uneasy and stubbornly said, "There's no need to talk to Katniss. This time it was my fault. Next time, I won't give her any leverage."

Lucas sighed again, unsure what to say.

Though he hadn't been in Starhaven recently, he kept in touch with Dylan and knew what he had been through, as well as Katniss's recent attitude.

If Katniss remained as tough as she had been with Dylan, Lucas doubted he could persuade her.

But since Elodie had suggested he try, he had to at least see Katniss.

However, he wasn't naive like Elodie, thinking that just being a brother would change Katniss's mind.

He planned to negotiate.

"Lucas, you don't need to offer Katniss anything. I can handle being locked up for a while," Dylan advised after hearing Lucas's plan.

Lucas shook his head, "Don't worry about it. I'll gauge her attitude. Just tell me what you did."

He had already heard Elodie's version but knew she might have added her own emotions.

Sure enough, after hearing Dylan's account, Lucas noticed some differences from Elodie's story.

Dylan didn't regret his actions.

He had written those things and had Victor post them in Katniss's training room out of impulse, but he didn't regret it.

Katniss had been ruthless, and he couldn't speak out?

But he hadn't expected Katniss to trace it back to him despite his efforts to stay hidden.

"You shouldn't have been so impulsive," Lucas shook his head and stood up, "I'll talk to Katniss. Take care of yourself."

Lucas tried calling Katniss but couldn't reach her.

Undeterred, he tried another number.

This time, someone answered, but it wasn't Katniss.

Recognizing the voice, Lucas asked, "Mr. Hamilton?"

Maximilian coldly replied, "Who is this?"

Lucas's expression stiffened, though it couldn't be seen over the phone.

He kept his tone friendly, "Mr. Hamilton, it's me, Katniss's brother, Lucas."

"Katniss has a brother? I didn't know that," Maximilian's voice remained cold and sounded quite angry.

Meaning that Katniss didn't have a brother.

Lucas was infuriated by Maximilian's words, but suppressed his emotions. "I'm Lucas. I want to talk to Katniss."

He had made his point clear, hoping Maximilian would hand the phone to Katniss.

But Maximilian ignored him, saying, "Katniss is asleep. Call back another time."

With that, Maximilian hung up.

Listening to the dial tone, Lucas's expression darkened.

Quickly regaining his composure, he contacted Elodie.
