Chapter 394 Secretly Staying

The two found another place to eat, and Emma's people didn't bother Katniss again.

But just after Katniss parted ways with Scarlett and hadn't even made it home yet, she got a call from Emma.

She didn't know it was Emma calling before she answered.

"Ms. Manners, you're quite hard to get a hold of."

Recognizing Emma's voice, Katniss instinctively frowned. Emma's words were a clear admission that her people had intercepted Katniss earlier.

"My friend was with me earlier; it wasn't convenient to discuss matters with Ms. Kate," Katniss said, sitting in the back seat of her car, giving a reluctant excuse in response to Emma's comment.

Emma didn't dwell on it and instead asked, "When will Ms. Manners be available? Let's find a time to chat."

Katniss retorted, "Is Ms. Kate really that free?"

Emma chuckled and replied, "I may not be as busy as Ms. Manners, so please let me know when you're free."

As soon as Emma finished speaking, Katniss heard the busy signal.

When Katniss got home, she told Maximilian about encountering Emma's people again, though she managed to avoid a confrontation with Emma.

Emma had her sights set on Maximilian and seemed to want to use Katniss to get to him, so she didn't hide this from Maximilian.

Upon understanding Katniss's concerns, Maximilian immediately arranged for additional bodyguards for her, though only Conrad would stay close by.

Knowing Maximilian was worried about her, Katniss complied with his arrangements.

"You need to be careful, too," Katniss reminded Maximilian, thinking about Emma's intentions.

Maximilian met her gaze and asked hoarsely, "Worried about me?"

Katniss blushed and smiled, "Of course not."

She hadn't expected Maximilian to tease her, but thinking about Emma's influential background and arrogant demeanor, she couldn't suppress her worry.

Maximilian saw through her words, lightly curled his lips, and scooped her up effortlessly, carrying her to the bedroom. "Not worried?"

Katniss panicked and instinctively tightened her arms around his neck.

Buried in Maximilian's firm chest, Katniss couldn't help but whisper, "Just be careful."

Maximilian's response was a passionate kiss.

Meanwhile, Emma was forced to get busy and couldn't spare any time to pursue Katniss.

Though she couldn't go after Katniss, she kept people watching Maximilian and Katniss's movements.

The Manners family was also concerned about the two, but they mostly discussed them privately and couldn't devote much attention to them.

Especially after Oliver caused trouble, Dylan, who had been focused on the hospital, had to clean up his mess.

When Dylan rushed to the police station, the sun was blazing.

Seeing Oliver behind bars, he couldn't help but ask irritably, "Dad? What happened? Who did you hit?"

The police had only said over the phone that Oliver had assaulted someone, and the victim had called the cops.

As soon as Dylan entered the station, he asked if bail was possible.

Learning that it was, he breathed a sigh of relief, remembering the time Clara had been detained and bail wasn't an option.

"Do I need to report to you when I hit someone?"

Oliver's words nearly gave Dylan a heart attack.

He rolled his eyes and asked, "Do you want to get bailed out or not?"

He had always known Oliver's temper would cause trouble, and after the Laura incident in Luminous City, Oliver's behavior had become even more erratic.

But he hadn't expected Oliver to be so defiant even after being arrested.

Thinking of the old Oliver and looking at the current mess of a man before him, Dylan couldn't hide his disgust.

Oliver shouted angrily, "Are you threatening me?"

His outburst not only made Dylan's expression darken but also drew the attention of nearby officers. "What's all the yelling about?"

With the officer's intervention, Oliver didn't dare act out anymore.

He shrank back, changed his posture against the bars, and urged Dylan, "Hurry up and bail me out!"

"Tell me who you hit first," Dylan said calmly, trying to keep his composure.

"Johnson." Oliver's anger flared at the mention of Johnson. Clenching his fists, he said, "He hurt Clara. What's wrong with me giving him a beating?"

Dylan gave Oliver a long look, suspecting that the assault on Johnson wasn't entirely about Clara.

But Johnson had indeed caused Clara pain, so Dylan didn't press Oliver further. "I'll bail you out, but you need to head back to Luminous City immediately."

He didn't want Oliver, a ticking time bomb, staying in Starhaven.

Unlike Luminous City, he feared that if Oliver caused trouble in Starhaven, he wouldn't even be able to clean up the mess.

Oliver looked at him with dissatisfaction and casually agreed, "Fine, just get me out."

Dylan went to arrange the bail, and before Oliver was released, he bought a ticket and headed to the airport with him.

After getting the ticket, Dylan intended to see Oliver off, but Nathan suddenly fell ill, causing Dylan to hesitate.

"Go check on Nathan. I'll head back myself!" Oliver grabbed the ticket and started shooing Dylan away.

After giving Oliver a few more instructions, Dylan hurried to the hospital.

Unbeknownst to him, as soon as he left, Oliver returned the ticket and left the airport. He had unfinished business to attend to.

When Dylan arrived at the hospital, Nathan had already been taken into surgery, and Clara was waiting outside.

Nathan's sudden illness had prompted the doctors to contact Dylan, but when he didn't arrive, they reached out to Clara.

Seeing Dylan, Clara immediately ran into his arms, eyes red. "Dylan, Nathan's been in surgery for so long. He'll be okay, right?"

"He'll be fine, don't worry," Dylan reassured her.

Though he said this, he wasn't sure about Nathan's condition.

Since Nathan's treatment by Katniss, several days had passed without any issues.

Dylan had thought Nathan was fully recovered, but now he was suddenly ill again and in the emergency room.

They waited together outside for a long time before the doctor finally emerged.

"Dr. Graves, how is Nathan?" Dylan quickly asked.

As colleagues, Hugo didn't hide the truth. "Nathan's condition is very serious. Didn't you have someone treat him before? Why didn't you continue?"

Hugo had taken over Nathan's treatment when he was admitted to the hospital.

Nathan's condition wasn't good, but after Dylan arranged for treatment, Nathan's state stabilized for a few days.

Hugo had thought the treatment was miraculous and wanted to meet the healer, but Dylan had said the person refused to communicate.

Hearing Hugo mention Katniss, Dylan's expression darkened. "How is Nathan now?"

"We've managed to stabilize him for now, but he's still unconscious. He'll be moved to a room soon. Several doctors have examined him, and we can't find a solution. You should get that healer to stabilize him again; his body can't hold on much longer."

After speaking, Hugo sighed and left.

Clara, overhearing, hesitated and said, "Dylan, please get Katniss to treat Nathan again?"

After her rebirth
