Chapter 346 So Many Things I Don't Know
Nathan quickly reassured her, "Hey, don't think like that, Clara. As long as you're okay, I'm happy."
He genuinely cared about Clara, unlike the guilt he felt towards Katniss.
Seeing the sincerity in his eyes, Clara finally felt at ease. She sat down next to Nathan's bed, holding his hand, and asked, "Nathan, Katniss is so skilled. When do you think she'll be able to cure you?"
At first, the question seemed innocent enough, but upon closer thought, it felt a bit off.
Nathan noticed the oddity but didn't think Clara did it on purpose. He believed Clara was too pure-hearted to say something with hidden motives.
He smiled and replied, "Katniss is really good, but my condition's been dragging on for too long. It's not easy to get better..."
Nathan understood his health situation and said this partly to comfort Clara.
Hearing Nathan's words, Clara instinctively tightened her grip.
She forgot she was still holding Nathan's hand and squeezed too hard, causing him a bit of pain.
"Clara? What are you thinking about?" Nathan gently patted the back of her hand, trying to calm her sudden tension.
Clara snapped back to reality and saw how tightly she was gripping Nathan's hand. She quickly apologized, "Sorry, Nathan... I was just thinking about school. I got distracted."
Nathan didn't suspect anything and asked, "Is everything okay at school?"
Clara bit her lip and said, "The school Johnson arranged for me, I hadn't heard of it before... but I'm grateful."
Though she said this, her expression was quite telling. Nathan could see her emotions clearly and softly reassured her, "Clara, don't be sad. Someone as outstanding as you will shine no matter where you are."
Clara didn't get the concrete promise she hoped for, just a compliment. She inwardly rolled her eyes but outwardly maintained a sensible demeanor.
After chatting with Nathan for a bit, Clara had to leave.
Before she left, she casually mentioned the school where Katniss was training, her tone full of envy.
Nathan sighed and called Oliver after Clara left.
He wasn't sure if Oliver could influence Johnson to transfer Clara to a different school, but since Clara couldn't let it go and felt unsatisfied, he had to try.
Clara left the hospital with a bitter expression, still looking upset as she exited the building.
Dylan was busy and didn't even have time to drive her home.
She saw Dylan from a distance, busy and being called around by other doctors at Starhaven Hospital, unlike his usual leisurely pace at Luminous City Hospital. It made her feel uneasy.
For some reason, she thought of Ethan.
Leaving the hospital, Clara couldn't help but compare the surroundings of Luminous City and Starhaven.
Luminous City was already quite developed, but it still seemed backward compared to Starhaven.
Starhaven had so many new things. Clara had only been there a few days and was already overwhelmed.
She made a silent vow to herself that she would stay in Starhaven, no matter what it took.
The day passed quickly.
On Monday morning,
Katniss arrived early at the Starhaven Medical University classroom.
The early training classroom was more like a self-study room, with no sign of the training instructor.
Alex saw Katniss and walked over directly, "Katniss, right? Why didn't you come to our welcome party?"
He looked down on Katniss, especially when Ethan wasn't around; his arrogance was even more blatant.
Katniss glanced at him, placed her things on the desk, and asked, "Who are you again?"
She had only met the other trainees once, and most of them she didn't remember, but she did remember Alex.
Alex and Stella had come over before. Stella had been polite, and Katniss had accepted Stella's invitation, so she had some impression of them.
But now, with Stella not around and Alex acting all high and mighty, Katniss decided to pretend not to know him to save trouble.
On one hand, it could curb Alex's arrogance, and on the other, she genuinely didn't want to deal with him.
Alex hadn't expected Katniss to respond like that; his face immediately darkened.
He slammed the desk and glared at her, "You don't know who I am? Didn't you listen to my introduction?"
Katniss tilted her head in confusion, "Does your introduction have anything to do with the course? Or is your name related to the training?"
Her questioning was quite sharp, causing a few students who had been drawn by Alex's desk slam to laugh out loud.
Alex glared at them, and they quickly stifled their laughter.
They were training at Starhaven Medical University, and Alex was a student there. Plus, Alex had organized the welcome party, so they had to show some respect to Starhaven Medical University.
"He's Alex," one student reminded Katniss.
"Thanks." Katniss smiled kindly at her, then turned to Alex and asked, "Alex, do you need something? If it's about the party, I remember you didn't say it was mandatory, right?"
"Why did you take the invitation then?" Alex's face softened a bit, but still showed some anger.
Katniss didn't care about attending his event. What angered him was Ethan's not showing up.
Ethan's not attending his event felt like a slap in the face. He wanted to vent his frustration on Katniss, with Ethan not there yet.
But he hadn't expected Katniss, who seemed soft and harmless, to be so sharp-tongued!
"You guys handed it to me, what could I do?" Katniss shrugged innocently, then saw Ethan walking into the classroom towards her.
Alex was about to say something when Ethan's voice came from behind him.
"Move."
Alex was indeed blocking the way, right in front of Katniss's desk.
"You're here? Ethan, tell me, why didn't you come to the welcome party? Were you scared?" Alex immediately asked, puffing up his chest.
Ethan glanced at him indifferently and responded, "Boring."
Alex's face darkened further, about to say something, but the bell rang, and Stella entered the classroom, conveying the instructor's message.
"The instructor wants us to research our topics independently and present them in the afternoon..." Stella smiled and then pulled Alex away.
Alex glared at Ethan and Katniss, clearly still upset, but neither of them paid him any attention.
"Ethan, why are you so late?" Katniss handed Ethan her research and took his in return, casually asking.
Ethan looked at her and replied, "Didn't sleep well, woke up late."
Katniss was used to his straightforward responses, nodded, and started reading Ethan's analysis.
As she was about to finish, she suddenly heard Ethan ask, "Katniss, do you know someone named Clara?"
Katniss was taken aback, looking at Ethan's serious expression, almost laughing.
Brent had said Ethan was oblivious to outside matters, and she thought it was an exaggeration. But it turned out to be true.
Ethan didn't know a lot of things.
