Chapter 419 Forever Together
Emma was fuming in the private room.
She tore into everyone who had followed her, even the restaurant manager wasn't safe from her wrath.
Despite the scolding, those on the receiving end could only silently endure it and apologize to Emma one by one.
After venting her anger, Emma demanded to know when things had gone wrong, prompting Katniss and Maximilian to investigate the issue.
But neither her subordinates nor the restaurant manager had any clue.
One of her subordinates was the first to speak up, "Ms. Kate, I didn't tell anyone about this."
"Ms. Kate, I wouldn't dare tell anyone either," another chimed in.
The manager was sweating bullets. He had hoped to win Emma's favor through this matter, but ended up botching it, leaving him extremely anxious.
"Useless!" Emma spat, not getting a satisfactory answer, and stormed out in a rage.
Desmond, who had left earlier, was already feeling uneasy.
He wasn't allowed to sit in the car with Maximilian and Katniss but was instead placed in the car behind, flanked by bodyguards on either side.
"Stop the car!"
Desmond's face was flushed, and he was feeling increasingly uncomfortable, becoming more certain that he had been sabotaged.
It had to be Emma.
"What's the matter? Mr. Boleyn, what do you need?" one of the bodyguards asked in a business-like tone.
Desmond, embarrassed and feeling hot and uncomfortable, said with difficulty, "I think I've been drugged. You need to tell Maximilian right away!"
The bodyguard, upon hearing this, checked Desmond's condition and immediately relayed the message to the bodyguards in the front car.
Maximilian, sitting in the front car, quickly learned about Desmond's situation.
"Send him back, let him clean up, and get him to Luminous City before tonight," Maximilian coldly instructed, his eyes growing darker as he pulled Katniss closer.
Katniss asked, "What kind of drug did he take?"
Maximilian glanced at Katniss, feeling inexplicably uneasy.
Even though he knew Katniss didn't mean anything by it, he couldn't help but ask, "Are you worried about him?"
He didn't like Katniss paying too much attention to others.
Katniss quickly shook her head.
She had no fondness for Desmond, so how could she be concerned about him?
Seeing the cold and dark look in Maximilian's eyes, she feared he might have an episode and hurriedly explained, "I'm just curious about what Emma is trying to do."
"She wants to break us apart," Maximilian gave a clear answer to Katniss's question and then mocked, "But that's impossible."
Katniss, hearing Maximilian's decisive response, looked at him in a daze.
Maximilian, seeing her lost in thought, suddenly felt uneasy. He held Katniss tightly, "Don't tell me you don't think so, Katniss?"
Katniss immediately shook her head.
To her, Maximilian was like a beacon of light.
He appeared when she was at her lowest, saved her, and made her no longer feel lonely as she had before.
How could she bear to leave Maximilian?
If she had once thought about quietly leaving when Maximilian found someone truly suitable, now she had become greedy.
She wanted to be with Maximilian forever.
Katniss's firm shake of the head greatly reassured Maximilian.
"We're not gonna be separated," Maximilian's voice was firm, his gaze intense. He watched Katniss closely, searching for her reaction.
Even though he hated to admit it, he was feeling pretty anxious right now.
Thankfully, Katniss quickly nodded, giving him a solid and serious response, "Yeah, we won't be separated."
Though she was slow to catch on sometimes, she knew that Maximilian's behavior just now seemed to come from a place of insecurity.
Katniss wasn't great with words, but at that moment, she knew exactly what to say.
Her firm response gave Maximilian the reassurance he needed.
"Let me hold you," Maximilian said in a hoarse voice.
As soon as he spoke, he pulled Katniss tightly into his arms, even lowering his head slightly to gently inhale the scent of her neck.
Katniss's reaction reassured him, making him even more reluctant to let go.
Katniss saw Maximilian as a beacon of light, and Maximilian felt the same way about her.
When he met Katniss, he was confined to a wheelchair, suffering from various ailments that many renowned doctors couldn't cure.
It was Katniss who helped him, healed his body, and warmed his heart.
To Maximilian, Katniss was like the warm sun.
He couldn't bear to let go of Katniss, nor did he want to think about what he would become if she wanted to leave him.
Katniss was his cure; he couldn't live without her.
He always knew that his illness wasn't completely cured.
It was just that with Katniss by his side, he appeared much more normal than before.
But if Katniss left him, he would still be unable to control his emotions and behavior.
The car was quiet, smoothly driving along.
Katniss felt her heartbeat pounding in her ears, and the close contact with Maximilian's chest allowed her to feel his heartbeat.
Each beat seemed to strike her heart, making her chest feel hot.
She hugged Maximilian tightly, just as he was holding her.
While the front car was harmonious, Desmond in the back car was not feeling well.
"Stop the car! I need to get out!" he shouted, his face red.
Feeling uncomfortable, his breath was weak, but he still treated the bodyguards with arrogance and rudeness.
One of the bodyguards remained expressionless, maintaining a business-like attitude, "Mr. Boleyn, please wait. We'll take you directly to your residence."
He didn't mention the plan to pack Desmond's luggage and send him back to Luminous City.
The other bodyguards didn't reveal anything either.
Although they were all bodyguards Maximilian had found for Katniss, there were different levels among them.
The one driving Maximilian and Katniss's car was the most skilled.
As for him, though also Katniss's bodyguard, he was good at handling matters and often dealt with miscellaneous tasks.
Handling Desmond's situation naturally fell under miscellaneous tasks.
Having dealt with many things, he understood Maximilian and Katniss's personalities.
So he knew how to handle this matter properly.
Upon learning that Maximilian wanted to send Desmond back to Luminous City, he quickly arranged the next steps.
First, they would take Desmond home, let him deal with his physical issues, pack his luggage, and then get him on a plane before nightfall.
