Chapter 420 Proclaiming Sovereignty

Whether Desmond liked it or not, they were getting him on that plane, even if they had to drag him there.

But honestly, they probably wouldn't need to.

Just a hint about Maximilian's stance and a mention that Emma still had people watching him would likely scare Desmond into agreeing to return to Luminous City overnight.

Desmond had no clue what the bodyguards were thinking.

Hearing their businesslike response, he held back his frustration and asked through gritted teeth, "How much longer till we get there?"

He was not only physically uncomfortable but also mentally dissatisfied.

What the hell? A bodyguard dared to disrespect him.

In the past, he would never have tolerated this, but today, he had just angered Maximilian and had been rescued by him from Emma.

He didn't dare to act out too much.

"Half an hour," the bodyguard replied.

Desmond's expression immediately darkened.

Half an hour? No way he could hold it that long.

"Get out of the car!" If he couldn't stop the car, he could at least make them get out, right?

The bodyguard glanced at him and finally said, "Mr. Hamilton wants us to personally escort you home."

"Just leave the driver in the front!" Desmond was so desperate and angry that he almost cursed.

The bodyguard thought for a moment, then looked at Desmond, who was hunched over in discomfort, his legs tightly pressed together.

He signaled to the driver in the front and got out of the car with the other bodyguard.

Originally, there were three people in the car with Desmond.

Usually, there were four assigned to Katniss, rotating shifts.

Today, they had all gathered to deal with Desmond.

After getting out, the bodyguard hailed a cab and got in with the other guard, reporting back to Maximilian.

Finally, with the bodyguards out of the car, Desmond felt slightly less humiliated, even though the driver was still in the front seat.

He couldn't care less about the driver. If he held it any longer, he might die from the discomfort.

He curled up in the back seat, reaching down to relieve himself.

Just as Desmond was dealing with his physical issue in a rather undignified manner, his phone suddenly rang.

Startled, he angrily fumbled for his phone and turned it off without even looking at the screen.

On the other end, Clara's face turned pale when she couldn't reach Desmond.

Unwilling to give up, she called again, but this time, it went straight to voicemail.

"You said you could get him here. Where is he?" a mocking voice asked.

It was Dione, looking smug.

Next to Dione sat someone Desmond would recognize as Violette, who had caused him a lot of trouble before.

Clara's face, already pale, turned ghostly white at Dione's words.

"He might be busy," Clara weakly explained, then, remembering Desmond's affection for her, she confidently added, "But he likes me, not you."

Clara had approached Dione herself.

After answering Dione's call on Desmond's phone at the hospital and learning where Dione wanted Desmond to go, Clara had been restless.

She knew Desmond was seeing a woman from Starhaven.

Desmond had said it was just to deal with Gabriel and that he only liked her, Clara.

But the thought of that woman being with Desmond for so long without breaking up made her anxious.

Even though she knew Desmond wasn't lying and that he still cared for her, she had secretly gone to Dione to assert her claim.

She told Dione that Desmond liked her, not Dione, hoping Dione would back off and break up with Desmond.

But Dione seemed completely unfazed, instead mocking her, saying she looked more like someone Desmond didn't want.

Humiliated, Clara wanted to leave.

But Violette, the woman next to Dione, blocked her.

"Leaving? Didn't you say Desmond likes you? Call him and let him say it himself," Violette said, her eyes gleaming with schadenfreude.

Clara didn't notice, but Dione knew why Violette wanted Clara to call Desmond.

Desmond had refused to come to the club, saying he was with Emma.

Dione wouldn't dare cross Emma, but sending Clara, who seemed quite foolish, to test the waters was fine.

Dione and Violette exchanged a knowing look.

Seeing Clara hesitate, Dione taunted, "Scared? Afraid I'll expose your lies?"

Under their goading, Clara called Desmond.

She thought Desmond would answer her call.

But to her surprise, not only did Desmond not answer, he turned off his phone when she called again.

"Phone's off," Violette said, hearing the message. "Maybe you've been pestering him too much, and he's fed up."

She didn't think much of Desmond, but since he was Dione's chosen decoy for dates, he shouldn't have other unclear relationships.

Clara bit her lip. "I told you, I'm not pestering him. He likes me."

"I don't care what you say. Desmond is dating me now," Dione said, arms crossed, looking down at her. "You didn't get him here, so you owe us for wasting our time."

She didn't think much of Desmond, and even less of Clara.

She had heard of Clara when she had Desmond investigated, but hadn't expected Clara to come to her.

Bold move.

Violette chimed in, "Yeah! You came to mess things up, so compensate us for our time!"

They didn't have any real plans, just a casual gathering with friends.

When it was just the two of them left, they thought of calling Desmond for some fun.

But Desmond had been called away by Emma.

They wouldn't dare offend Emma, so they planned to go home.

But then Clara showed up to stake her claim.

Ridiculous.

Clara, frightened by their aggressive stance, instinctively tried to flee.

But as soon as she opened the door, she heard Dione shout, "Stop her," and a burly bodyguard blocked her way.

Terrified, Clara retreated into the club's private room.

"Think you can waste our time and just leave?" Violette slapped her, showing no mercy.

Dione sneered, "How do you plan to make it up to us?"
