Chapter 461 Not Together
Despite being tailed by two cars, the lead vehicle kept its speed effortlessly.
Soon, Maximilian's two cars pulled up in front of the company building.
Emma told her driver to park close to them, while Lucas, in the other car, parked right next to Emma's vehicle.
Lucas had mistaken Emma's car for Maximilian's, so he had been following it the entire way.
Naturally, when Lucas parked, he expected the people getting out to be from Maximilian's team.
He was following the car to find Katniss, intending to explain his purpose.
But when he saw who got out of the car, he was stunned.
"Ms. Kate?"
Lucas had heard Dennis mention Emma before, and his friends had told him about the Kate family before he came to Starhaven.
He knew Emma was the heir to the Kate family.
Even though he hadn't met Emma, he had seen the newspaper Dennis had given him, which featured Emma's photo.
Emma heard someone recognize her and casually glanced at Lucas, her expression indifferent.
She had already been informed by her team that someone was following them.
While her team was cautious, Emma didn't take it seriously.
She was confident that no one in Starhaven would dare to make a move against her for now.
Lucas realized he had misspoken and was about to avoid Emma when he noticed she was already ignoring him and heading towards Maximilian's group.
He couldn't afford to waste time and followed her.
He was determined to see Katniss today and find out who had pressured the police, preventing him from bailing Dylan out.
Emma didn't care about the person following her, but her team did.
One of them immediately stopped and blocked Lucas's path.
"Who are you, and why are you following Ms. Kate?"
The person scrutinized Lucas, noting his suit and the fact that he was alone, which made them less wary.
Lucas, feeling anxious after recognizing Emma, explained his purpose honestly.
His good attitude led the person to say, "Wait here."
Lucas agreed, and the person quickly caught up with Emma's group and explained Lucas's purpose to the leader.
"He's looking for Maximilian, too?" Emma asked casually.
Maximilian's team had quickly entered the building, as if fleeing from something.
Emma's car was parked a bit farther from theirs, and she was frustrated at losing them.
She couldn't tell if her team's tracking skills were too good for Maximilian to notice or if Maximilian had deliberately shaken them off.
Her team had already spoken to the receptionist, but they were still waiting in the lobby.
Upon hearing Emma's question, her subordinate immediately replied, "Sort of. He said he's here to see Katniss."
"Katniss?" Emma repeated the name with a sneer.
She hadn't forgotten how Katniss had previously shut her out, so she had a poor impression of her.
Moreover, Katniss was her rival in love.
Even though Emma hadn't planned any harm against Katniss, she certainly wouldn't be kind to her.
"Did he say anything else?" Emma asked idly while waiting for Maximilian's team to respond.
"No, Ms. Kate. Don't worry, I told him to wait behind us," her subordinate reassured her.
Emma clapped her hands in frustration. "Bring him over."
Though they weren't together, the man might be useful.
If Katniss agreed to see him, Emma might have a chance to meet Maximilian.
Since the man knew her and was obediently waiting behind them, he wouldn't dare refuse her request.
Her subordinate quickly brought Lucas over.
Lucas looked conflicted as he approached.
"Ms. Kate, do you need something?"
Emma lazily glanced at him before asking, "Why are you looking for Katniss? Will she see you?"
She didn't want to waste time on small talk; her time was precious.
"I need to ask her something," Lucas replied stiffly.
He hadn't expected to meet Emma so soon after hearing about her from Dennis.
It was quite a coincidence.
"Do you have a way to ensure she'll see you?" Emma asked.
Lucas quickly answered, "I'm Katniss's brother. If I show up, she should see me."
He wasn't entirely confident, but under Emma's skeptical gaze, he blurted out the bold statement.
Regretting his words, he wanted to take them back, but heard Emma clap her hands in surprise. "You're Katniss's brother?"
Emma was genuinely pleased. She had been worried about how to get Maximilian to see her.
If Lucas could meet Katniss, she might not have to worry about meeting Maximilian.
"Yes, I am," Lucas replied, feeling a bit scared but not showing it.
"Then I'll go up with you. Go tell the receptionist," Emma said, practically pushing Lucas towards the desk.
Lucas, bewildered, followed her instructions and spoke to the receptionist.
The receptionist, smiling professionally, noted Lucas's purpose and said, "Please wait in the lobby. I've informed Mrs. Hamilton. Whether she sees you is up to her."
Maximilian's company had a new, more confident receptionist, and security personnel were always present in the lobby, boosting her confidence.
Lucas frowned slightly at the receptionist's formal address for Katniss but obediently sat down.
He kept his distance from Emma, remembering Dennis's warning about her.
Though Clara had returned safely, Emma was still not someone to mess with.
Both groups waited in the lobby, each with their thoughts.
