Chapter 388 Entangled and Relentless

Nathan wasn't slow on the uptake.

As soon as Dylan spoke, he immediately got what Dylan meant.

Of course, Elodie had just woken up and was already demanding a divorce from Oliver, even wanting to send him to jail.

This was completely unexpected for them.

Seeing Nathan's expression, Dylan continued, sounding a bit helpless, "Mom's worked up right now. If we let her go back to Luminous City, she might do something crazy, and our family would fall apart. So, let's try to calm her down with Clara's situation first."

If Elodie went through with the divorce from Oliver, none of the Manners family members would come out looking good.

It might even delay the search for a kidney donor for Clara.

Nathan nodded silently in response.

Seeing this, Dylan breathed a sigh of relief and headed towards Elodie's hospital room.

Clara's fainting should be enough to temporarily calm Elodie down.

Sure enough, as soon as Elodie heard that Clara had fainted from emotional distress, she immediately forgot everything else and wanted to go take care of Clara.

Dylan quickly stopped her, soothing her with a few words and urging her to focus on her recovery.

"Mom, don't worry. We're all working hard to find a kidney donor for Clara. Lucas and Dad are doing their best."

Dylan's words made Elodie think about the Manners family's situation, and she stopped mentioning Oliver.

The hospital finally settled down, but on the other side, Emma was causing trouble.

After bothering Maximilian in the morning, she came back again at noon.

Although she didn't have her people clash with Maximilian's security this time, she was still extremely arrogant.

Maximilian didn't even intend to see her, directly handing her off to Chris.

So now, Emma sat across from Chris, looking very displeased.

"Why are you again? Where's Mr. Hamilton?"

Chris replied politely, "Mr. Hamilton is busy."

Maximilian was indeed busy, but mostly he just didn't want to see Emma.

Emma was peculiar; she could threaten someone and then visit them again with a straight face.

"Then I'll wait here. I don't believe he can be busy all day." Emma crossed her arms, looking like she had all the time in the world.

Chris was taken aback, then said, "I'll have someone bring you some tea and snacks, Ms. Kate."

He left quickly, not giving Emma a chance to refuse.

Chris was so straightforward because Emma was just in a regular meeting room.

Even if other visitors came, there were other rooms available, so there was no worry about it being occupied.

Solving the Emma problem with a meeting room was worth it.

Emma watched Chris leave quickly, frowning but saying nothing.

When the tea and snacks arrived, she still didn't speak, waiting coldly for Maximilian.

However, she waited almost the entire afternoon without seeing Maximilian.

Chris was outside, amazed at Emma's patience, but also a bit worried.

If Emma didn't get to see Maximilian, would she get angry?

Things went as he expected. Emma's mood worsened as she waited, her expression growing darker.

But Chris had his work to do and couldn't keep an eye on Emma.

Just as Emma was about to barge into Maximilian's office, another woman walked into the meeting room.

"Who are you? Where's Maximilian?" Emma's expression darkened further when she saw it wasn't Maximilian.

Yasmin glanced at her, feeling an inexplicable dislike, and replied, "I'm here to see Mr. Hamilton too."

She spoke calmly, sizing up Emma and quickly realizing they likely had the same goal.

Yasmin frowned but didn't back down when she met Emma's hostile gaze.

Emma had already investigated Maximilian and knew Katniss didn't look like Yasmin, so she was quite rude, "Mr. Hamilton is busy. Even if he finishes, he won't have time for you. You can leave."

Yasmin smiled suddenly, shaking the documents in her hand, "Miss, you must be mistaken. I'm here to discuss business with Mr. Hamilton."

She had come to see Maximilian in the morning but had to leave to complete her documents.

Now she was determined to get the contract signed.

Emma's frown deepened, thinking that if Maximilian wouldn't see her, she could just go home and bring someone who could talk business.

Surely that would open Maximilian's office door.

Yasmin watched Emma leave, feeling puzzled.

Chris had forgotten about Emma in the meeting room until he remembered to check and found only Yasmin there.

Though it was strange, he had someone lead Yasmin to see Maximilian.

Yasmin got straight to the point, proposing to sign the contract.

She laid out all the documents, adopting a very humble attitude.

Maximilian was doing well in Starhaven, and if the Thorne family could hitch a ride on his success, they would benefit greatly.

So the Thorne family was very clear about their priorities.

After reviewing the documents, Maximilian didn't hesitate and officially signed the contract with Yasmin.

Yasmin finally relaxed once she had the contract in hand.

After Yasmin left, Chris told Maximilian about Emma's visit.

Maximilian's only reaction was a frown.

Unexpectedly, Emma returned in the evening, bringing a sharp-looking man with her.

Learning that Emma was here for business, Maximilian's frown deepened.

"Tell them I'm not here," Maximilian said, rubbing his forehead.

Chris complied and went out to deal with them.

Maximilian glanced at the floor-to-ceiling window, thinking that by this time tomorrow, Katniss's test would be over, and he needed to pick her up.

Emma was like a ticking time bomb, and he didn't want her to disturb Katniss.

Meanwhile, Katniss's test was going smoothly.

Two days of testing flew by,

On the second afternoon, Katniss walked out of the exam room and saw Conrad waiting outside.

Beside Conrad stood someone she didn't expect, Maximilian.

"Maximilian, what are you doing here?" Katniss was pleasantly surprised, not expecting Maximilian to come to the Amber District.

Maximilian led her to the car, explaining, "I missed you, so I came to pick you up."

Katniss's ears felt warm, her heart sweet, and she replied softly, "I missed you too."

Maximilian smiled, holding Katniss's hand tightly.

Conrad drove, pretending to be invisible.

The back seat was filled with warmth and intimacy, with Maximilian holding Katniss close, asking softly, "Are you tired? I'll take you somewhere to relax."

Katniss leaned against Maximilian, responding softly.

She wasn't curious about the place Maximilian mentioned; what mattered was that he would be with her. With Maximilian around, she felt much more relaxed.

That was the sense of security Maximilian gave her.

Soon, the car stopped in front of an old-looking house.

The Amber District had many such houses, and even before going inside, Katniss could feel the historical atmosphere.

After her rebirth
