Chapter 405 Talk About Something Unknown

Katniss shook her head. "No."

What a joke.

Maximilian wasn't an outsider.

How could she possibly kick him out to talk to Dylan, who was a stranger?

Dylan furrowed his brow, seemingly calculating his chances of persuading Katniss.

Finally, he sighed in resignation.

"Alright, spill it. We don't have all day," Maximilian urged, his impatience clear as day.

Dylan ignored Maximilian's expression, trying to overlook his presence, and addressed Katniss. "Katniss, you know why I'm here, right?"

"No, just get to the point," Katniss frowned, signaling him to cut to the chase.

Dylan awkwardly twitched his mouth, swallowed, but couldn't find the words to start.

He wanted Katniss to treat Nathan, but didn't know how to ask.

He knew Katniss was likely to refuse.

And it wasn't just Nathan in danger now; Clara was too.

If they couldn't find a kidney donor for Clara soon, Nathan might do something foolish.

Glancing at Maximilian sitting next to Katniss, Dylan couldn't help but think that Maximilian could help find a kidney donor.

But as soon as the thought emerged, he received a warning look.

The warning came from none other than Maximilian.

Maximilian's eyes were deep and cold, while his softer side was reserved only for Katniss.

Swallowing his nerves and the inappropriate thought, Dylan spoke in a low voice. "Nathan's condition is really bad. He doesn't even have the will to live anymore."

Katniss raised an eyebrow at Dylan's words.

Recalling Nathan's deliberate attempt to anger her in the hospital last time, Nathan indeed didn't seem to have a strong will to live.

"I know all that. Tell me something I don't know."

She felt that Dylan's anxiety wasn't solely about Nathan; it likely involved Clara, too.

From what she knew about them, Clara's health was probably also in trouble.

Though they hadn't targeted her again, they surely hadn't given up the idea and were likely still running around for Clara's sake.

Hearing Katniss say she knew about Nathan, Dylan furrowed his brow, but quickly masked it, mindful of Maximilian's presence.

He tried to suppress his irritation, wanting to speak calmly with Katniss, but found it difficult.

Words came to his lips only to be swallowed back down.

Katniss's casual mention of Nathan's lack of will to live made Dylan recall Nathan's fear of having said something too harsh to Katniss in the hospital.

Had Katniss already noticed Nathan's condition back then?

But she hadn't told him.

Unable to contain his anger, he blurted out, "You knew before? Why didn't you tell me?"

Maximilian's cold gaze swept over Dylan, making him shiver.

Katniss gently stroked Maximilian's hand, calming him before turning to Dylan.

She found his questioning amusing. "What? Do you expect me, an outsider, to inform you about your family's issues?"

Maximilian's look made Dylan calm down a bit, and Katniss's words hit him hard.

To the Manners family, Katniss was an outsider, even less than that.

Why would he expect her to inform him?

Despite the rational part of his mind agreeing, other thoughts swirled, and Dylan couldn't help but feel resentment towards Katniss.

He frowned, his gaze towards Katniss still filled with displeasure.

Katniss didn't care about Dylan's look. "If you have nothing else to say, this meeting is over. Don't bother Maximilian again."

Maximilian, hearing Katniss mention him, added a warning. "Next time you come knocking, you won't be so lucky."

No one likes being threatened, and Dylan was no exception.

He felt a surge of resentment but managed to suppress it.

"What do you want to hear?" He asked, sounding defeated.

Katniss smiled. "It's not about what I want to hear, but what you're willing to say. Though whatever you say, I probably won't change my mind."

Dylan was once again angered by Katniss's words, his fists clenched tightly under the table, trying to calm his emotions.

"I don't think he has anything more to say. Let's go," Maximilian said, glancing at Dylan and turning to Katniss.

Seeing Maximilian about to leave with Katniss, Dylan panicked.

"Katniss, you promised to heal Nathan!"

Even though he didn't shout, the urgency in his voice was clear.

Katniss shrugged indifferently. "You broke the agreement first."

Dylan was momentarily speechless.

Katniss was right.

They had agreed that Clara would move out of the Manners Villa and not associate with the Manners family.

If Nathan were critically ill before, they would have honored the agreement for his treatment.

But now, with Clara sick, she couldn't be without them, leaving them no choice.

Maximilian led Katniss towards the door.

If Katniss hadn't asked him not to interfere with the Manners family's affairs, he would have pushed Dylan aside long ago.

Dylan quickly stood up, blocking the door, stubbornly saying, "Please wait."

Katniss squeezed Maximilian's hand, calming him, but looked at Dylan with impatience. "Speak quickly, no nonsense."

"Nathan wants to donate his kidney to Clara," Dylan said, as if making a huge decision.

Katniss was speechless, almost rolling her eyes.

She already knew from Patrick that Nathan and Clara were undergoing compatibility tests.

It was obvious Nathan wasn't doing it voluntarily.

Nathan's wanting to donate his kidney to Clara was a given.

Seeing Dylan waiting for her reaction, Katniss couldn't help but roll her eyes again.

"Dylan, do you even hear yourself?"

Dylan continued, "The compatibility test is already underway. Results will be out soon."

Though he didn't mention the donation, Dylan hoped this would soften Katniss's heart.

However, Katniss's reaction surprised him.

Katniss coldly asked, "So? Why are you here?"

She had initially thought Dylan came to save Nathan, but now felt there was more to it than Dylan was letting on.

Katniss's indifference stunned Dylan.

He was about to speak according to his prepared script, but was suddenly met with Maximilian's warning gaze.

After her rebirth
