Chapter 353 She Is Just Pretending
Clara nestled in Ethan's arms, one hand gripping his arm and the other resting on her leg, as if she had hurt it.
Seeing Clara's fragile and pitiful appearance, someone who had followed them over immediately jumped in to ask Scarlett, "Why'd you push her like that?"
This person had been watching the situation earlier, which is why they questioned Scarlett now.
Scarlett was momentarily stunned before she reacted and tried to explain, "I didn't push her hard."
She felt utterly helpless, unable to explain herself, and could only look at Ethan for support.
Before Ethan could speak, Clara quickly said, "Ethan, this isn't Scarlett's fault. I just lost my balance."
However, her expression was so aggrieved that no one believed she was fine.
Instead, she looked like she had been wronged but didn't dare to say anything.
Hearing Clara's words, Scarlett hurriedly added, "Yeah, she just lost her balance!"
But a few people still looked at her, their gazes shifting between her and Clara, remaining silent.
Ethan glanced at Scarlett and said, "We'll talk about this later. I'm taking Clara to the hospital."
Clara, still nestled in Ethan's arms, timidly glanced at Scarlett and bit her lip without saying anything more.
Scarlett, however, clearly saw the smug look in Clara's eyes and quickly followed them.
"Ethan, I feel responsible for her fall. I'll go with you to the hospital," she said, giving Clara a challenging look.
Clara didn't meet her gaze, instead biting down on her molars.
Ethan didn't notice the tension between the two and allowed Scarlett to follow.
In the car, Scarlett suddenly asked, "Ethan, when did you and Clara start dating?"
Ethan, focused on driving, replied, "Not long ago."
Clara bit her lip, wanting to say something but holding back.
"Not long ago? No wonder. But Ethan, why did you decide to get engaged so quickly? Will your parents approve?"
Katniss was from Luminous City, and Clara claimed to be her sister, so she was from Luminous City too.
Scarlett didn't think the Anderson family would approve of Clara and Ethan's engagement.
Ethan gave Scarlett a cold glance. "That's none of their business."
Scarlett, understanding Ethan's growing impatience, swallowed her remaining words.
The car fell into silence.
Clara looked at the two of them, feeling a wave of frustration.
Though Scarlett had only said a few words, Clara could tell from them that the Anderson family likely had opinions about Ethan's choice of partner.
Ethan's parents probably wouldn't approve of their relationship.
Scarlett was also lost in thought and didn't speak further.
Each of the three in the car had their thoughts, with Clara being the most frustrated.
When they arrived at the hospital, Ethan carried Clara inside.
Scarlett followed closely, wanting to speak but holding back, her eyes fixed on the two of them.
Seeing Ethan carrying Clara, a doctor who recognized him hurried over.
"Mr. Anderson, what happened to this young lady?" he asked cautiously, wiping sweat from his forehead.
Noticing Scarlett following behind Ethan, the doctor gave Clara a peculiar look.
"She fell. Please check her," Ethan said.
The doctor quickly arranged for Clara to be examined.
Although the injuries weren't severe, Clara did have visible marks on her leg.
She had always been prone to bruising easily, and since she hadn't protected herself when she fell, it looked worse than it was.
The doctor applied some medication, and Ethan carried her to a hospital bed.
Scarlett, who had been following Ethan, tried to explain that she hadn't pushed Clara hard and that Clara was faking it.
But seeing the marks on Clara's leg, she fell silent.
She stared in disbelief at Clara's medicated leg.
Ethan said nothing, just gave Scarlett a cold look and stayed by Clara's side, asking, "Does it still hurt?"
"It doesn't hurt anymore." Clara moved slightly, wincing as if in pain, then quickly said, "Don't blame Scarlett. She didn't mean to push me."
Scarlett's expression turned even more incredulous.
"I didn't push you on purpose, and you were the one who bumped into me first!" Scarlett pointed at Clara.
If Clara hadn't bumped into her for no reason, she wouldn't have touched Clara at all.
Clara seemed startled by Scarlett's raised voice and shrank closer to Ethan.
"Apologize to Clara," Ethan said, looking at Scarlett.
Scarlett stared at Ethan in disbelief, "Why should I apologize? I didn't push her hard! She's faking it!"
Clara softly said, "Ethan, I'm not faking it. My health isn't good. I wouldn't joke about it."
As she spoke, she clung to Ethan, looking extremely pitiful.
"You're still pretending?" Scarlett couldn't hold back, "Ethan, she's not as innocent as she seems. She came to Starhaven because she ruined her reputation in Luminous City! Don't believe her!"
Scarlett, unable to contain her anger, blurted out what Katniss had told her.
Clara's expression changed, glaring at Scarlett from an angle Ethan couldn't see, convinced that Katniss had told Scarlett.
"Ethan, I'm scared," Clara said, trying to get Ethan to send Scarlett away so she wouldn't have to explain.
Scarlett, hearing Clara's words, wanted to pull them apart but didn't dare.
She continued, "Ethan, wait until I get the newspapers. You'll see what she's done!"
Clara's expression changed at the mention of newspapers.
Fortunately, Ethan chose to protect Clara, coldly telling Scarlett, "Shut up. Apologize or leave."
Scarlett stood frozen, shocked and hurt by Ethan's harsh words.
Even more panicked, she saw Ethan carrying Clara away when she didn't move.
She wanted to follow, but was stopped by Ethan's scolding.
At the same time, she saw Clara's triumphant and challenging look.
Scarlett, her mind in chaos, could only watch as Ethan left with Clara.
