Chapter 399 It's All Katniss's Fault

Dylan blurted out, "Nathan's getting worse. You gotta come to the hospital, now."

Brynn had the speaker on, so everyone in the room heard Dylan's urgent tone loud and clear.

Sophia was the first to snap. "Who do you think you are, talking like that? You think Katniss is your doctor or something?"

She didn't know who was on the other end, but she didn't like their attitude one bit.

Scarlett chimed in, "Exactly. If you're asking Katniss for help, is this how you ask for a favor?"

Dylan was fuming, his head spinning from their retorts.

Brynn cut him off, asking, "Are you from the Manners family?"

Hearing another new voice, Dylan was even more infuriated.

Katniss was something else. He called her to treat Nathan, and not only did she not rush over, but she also had four people on the other end mocking him.

The more he thought about it, the angrier he got, and his face grew darker.

But Brynn and the others didn't care if Dylan was angry.

Sophia and Scarlett, hearing Brynn's question, also started asking who Dylan was from the Manners family.

"Who are you from the Manners family?"

"Are all Manners family members this shameless? Didn't you cut ties with Katniss a long time ago?"

Scarlett and Sophia had heard about Katniss's past from Brynn, who was from Luminous City.

Now, facing someone from the Manners family, whom Brynn had described as despicable, they showed no mercy.

Dylan angrily said, "What does it matter to you? Let Katniss speak."

If he could have reached Katniss, he wouldn't have contacted Scarlett.

It was good that Katniss and Scarlett were together, but he didn't expect there to be more than two people on the other end.

He was outnumbered and couldn't win the argument.

Of course, Katniss couldn't respond because the voice earlier was just Brynn imitating her.

"You think Katniss would talk to someone like you? Dream on!" Brynn snapped.

Dylan was furious, but before he could express his anger, he heard Brynn say, "You're Dylan from the Manners family, aren't you?"

Caught off guard, Dylan didn't deny it.

Katniss would recognize his voice, and with these people together, they would find out from Katniss eventually.

"Katniss, say something. Nathan just came out of the emergency room. The doctor said if he goes back in, he won't make it! Are you going to watch Nathan die?"

Knowing he couldn't win against the others, he shouted towards Katniss.

However, the other women continued to berate him, and Katniss remained silent.

Just as he was about to question them again, the call was abruptly ended.

Before it disconnected, Brynn had the last word.

"Dylan, you're nothing. That voice you heard was me pretending to be Katniss!"

Hearing the final voice, which indeed sounded like Katniss, and realizing it was Brynn, he was shaking with rage.

He wanted to say more, but the call was already cut off.

Seething with anger, his expression turned extremely dark.

"Dylan," A soft voice came from behind him.

Dylan quickly composed himself and turned to Clara. "Clara, what's wrong?"

"Dylan, did you reach Katniss? Nathan's condition is terrible. He passed out while talking to us."

Clara nervously wrung her hands, her face pale.

Dylan said tenderly, "Don't worry about Nathan. Go get some rest. I'll find Katniss."

Though he said that, Dylan had no idea where to find Katniss and planned to try his luck at Maximilian's company.

Clara reluctantly left the hospital, glancing back with every step.

Before searching for Katniss, Dylan went to see Elodie.

Elodie looked grim, her brows furrowed as she watched the unconscious Nathan on the hospital bed.

If the doctor hadn't assured her that Nathan was just sleeping, she wouldn't be so calm.

"Mom," Dylan called softly, "let me take you back to your room."

Elodie shook her head. "I'll stay here with Nathan."

She couldn't believe that after just a short nap, Nathan's condition had deteriorated so much.

And Katniss, that heartless woman, really wasn't going to treat Nathan anymore.

Dylan said helplessly, "Mom, I need to talk to you."

Hearing this, Elodie glanced at the sleeping Nathan before letting Dylan push her wheelchair out of the room.

In the hallway, Dylan spoke as they walked. "Mom, Nathan wants to donate his kidney to Clara."

Elodie was shocked, her eyes widening as she turned to him. "What did you say?"

She thought she had misheard.

Dylan had to repeat himself.

"His health is so poor right now. How could he survive losing a kidney?" Elodie immediately rejected the idea. "You need to talk Nathan out of it."

She couldn't believe Nathan would have such an extreme idea.

Did he not want to continue treatment?

No, that couldn't happen.

"I'm going to find that wretched Katniss again!" Elodie said, slapping the armrest of her wheelchair.

Dylan quickly said, "Mom, let me go."

Elodie and Clara had already tried to intercept Katniss at school but were stopped by her bodyguards before they could even speak to her.

Clara had told him all the details.

Elodie going again wouldn't change anything.

"Can you handle it?" Elodie was worried.

Dylan reassured her, "I'll go to Maximilian. Katniss might not care about face or family, but Maximilian won't ignore Katniss's reputation."

In both Luminous City and Starhaven, anyone could see how much Maximilian cared for Katniss.

Going to Maximilian might be more effective than finding Katniss.

Elodie was still uneasy, but Dylan said, "Mom, stay at the hospital. When Nathan wakes up, talk to him."

Though he had told Hugo he would consider matching Nathan and Clara, he didn't want to give up on Nathan's treatment.

After all, they were family.

Elodie finally agreed.

After watching Dylan leave, she returned to Nathan's room to stay by his side.

Not long after Dylan left, Nathan woke up.

Nathan knew he didn't have much time left.

Seeing Elodie by his bed, he gave her a weak smile.

Elodie said, "Nathan, your brother went to find Katniss. He'll find a way to get her to treat you. Don't have any other crazy ideas."

Her words were clear, and even though Nathan's mind was foggy, he understood her meaning.

"You know, Mom, saving Clara would be good too." Nathan smiled faintly.

Elodie pursed her lips, disagreeing with him.

"Don't think about trading your life for Clara's! Clara will find a kidney donor, and you'll get better too!" Elodie was upset.

Both Clara and Nathan had to survive.

Even if someone had to donate a kidney to Clara, it should be that wretched Katniss.

How could Nathan be the one to donate?

Their family was in this mess because of Katniss.

Katniss should obediently cure Nathan and then donate her kidney to Clara.

After her rebirth
