Chapter 481 There Are Stars in Your Eyes
Such a small thing, the Lewis family probably didn't even think twice about it, just did it casually, but now Lucas had to ask for her help.
One of her subordinates asked, "Ms. Kate, what should we do?"
Emma rolled her eyes. "Make a call."
This meant someone should contact the police on behalf of the Kate family and ask them to release Dalyn.
The subordinate immediately understood and was about to leave.
Emma was about to close her eyes and rest when she suddenly thought of something and called out, "Wait."
The person stopped in his tracks and turned back respectfully. "Ms. Kate, do you have any other instructions?"
"How did Lucas get my number?" She finally realized something was off.
"It was probably Clara who told him." The subordinate replied.
Emma sneered and suddenly changed her mind, "Bring Clara, no, bring Lucas here."
She had wanted to mess with Clara, but since Clara needed to help her deceive Desmond into going to Starhaven, she changed her target.
After all, they were family, so it shouldn't make much difference, right?
Meanwhile.
Katniss had just finished her training and saw Scarlett and Tyler waiting outside the classroom.
She was puzzled, "What are you guys doing here?"
"We came to see you and Ethan off. Aren't you leaving for the Amber District today and taking the test tomorrow?" They said.
Katniss nodded and said, "I'm leaving tomorrow morning."
Unlike last time, she didn't plan to leave this evening but decided to head to the Amber District for the test tomorrow morning, as she had agreed with Maximilian from the start.
Tyler, hearing this, said awkwardly, "We came to wish you good luck on your test. How about we have dinner together and invite Sophia too?"
As he said this, he glanced at Ethan, clearly asking both of them at once.
Katniss thought that Maximilian was probably waiting outside, so she didn't answer immediately but looked at Ethan for his opinion.
"Sure." Ethan had also left on the day of the test last time, so this time was no different.
He agreed to Tyler's dinner suggestion.
Seeing Ethan agree, Tyler quickly turned his bright eyes to Katniss.
Scarlett was contacting Sophia while also watching Katniss.
Katniss smiled, "Maximilian is probably waiting outside. You don't mind if I bring him along, do you?"
"Not at all!"
"Of course not!"
They almost answered in unison.
Ethan added, "Having Mr. Hamilton join us would be even better."
With that settled, Katniss decided on Maximilian.
They headed out of the school.
As soon as they stepped outside, Katniss saw Maximilian waiting.
She smiled and ran over, jumping into his arms as he extended them.
"Why so enthusiastic today?" Maximilian asked with a doting smile.
Katniss leaned into his embrace, catching her breath before saying, "I agreed to have dinner with Ethan and the others, so I came to tell you in advance."
It was rare for her to decide without consulting Maximilian first, and though she didn't show it outwardly, she felt a bit anxious inside.
She looked up at Maximilian with bright, expectant eyes.
Maximilian smiled, "You're so thoughtful, coming to tell me first."
Katniss blushed, her cheeks and ears burning, and asked softly, "So, do you want to join us?"
She had decided on her own, but wanted to know Maximilian's thoughts.
Maximilian said, "Though it's a shame we can't have some alone time, dinner with them sounds nice too."
Hearing him mention being alone made Katniss blush even more.
"But," Maximilian continued, "you'll have to make it up to me for not being able to be alone with you."
Katniss, feeling nervous under his intense gaze, turned to see the others waiting nearby and walked over to them to change the subject.
Maximilian followed her leisurely, a faint smile on his lips.
After greeting each other, they discussed where to eat.
They decided on a private club Scarlett suggested, as it offered better privacy than a regular restaurant and was a place they frequented.
With the location settled, they each got into their respective cars and headed to the club.
Katniss was held by Maximilian as they got into their car, with Conrad now driving instead of Maximilian's previous bodyguard.
Once in the car, Katniss began telling Maximilian about her day.
Though the events were minor, Katniss spoke with enthusiasm, especially when discussing medical knowledge, her passion making her seem to glow.
Maximilian loved listening to Katniss talk and watching her shine.
Often, he wouldn't say much, but his eyes never left her.
Most of the time, he would just stare at her face, as if there was something incredibly beautiful there.
Katniss had noticed this before, but often chose to ignore it.
After sharing her day's events, she saw Maximilian staring at her face again.
"Why are you staring at me?" she asked softly, trying to suppress her shyness.
Maximilian pulled her closer, "I'm looking at the stars."
"Stars?" Katniss asked, puzzled.
It was broad daylight, so there were no stars to be seen.
"Where are the stars?" she asked, unable to hide her confusion.
Maximilian leaned in, "In your eyes."
Katniss felt dizzy, his warm breath on her face making her already flushed cheeks even hotter.
She lowered her head in embarrassment, her heart racing.
As she was lost in her thoughts, Maximilian's large hand ruffled her hair.
She looked up at him, meeting his captivating gaze.
As she was dazed, Maximilian's usually stern face slowly approached, and the next moment, her lips felt soft, her breath catching.
After a while, Maximilian released her lips.
Holding her, he softly asked, "Do you like this compensation for not being able to be alone with you?"
"Yes," How could she not like it?
The car was filled with a romantic atmosphere.
Conrad, in the front seat, remained silent, blending into the background.
