Chapter 396 Repeated Threats

Watching Katniss walk away, Clara didn't follow.

Instead, she quickly pulled herself together and made a phone call.

She cried dramatically on the phone, exaggerating Katniss's cruelty.

The person on the other end was none other than Elodie.

When Elodie heard that Clara had gone to ask Katniss to treat Nathan but ended up being treated so poorly, she was livid.

She started cursing Katniss, her breath heavy with anger.

Clara listened to Elodie's rant, a smile creeping onto her face, but her voice remained soft and weak.

"Katniss even said she won't treat Nathan anymore. Mom, what should we do?"

Elodie knew about Nathan's condition.

After his last emergency, he had been extremely weak, and his health had been deteriorating over the past few days.

Dylan was worried but couldn't get in touch with Katniss.

Clara had volunteered to find Katniss and ask her to help Nathan.

Elodie was aware of this because Clara had made the promise in front of her.

"Clara, just come back home," Elodie sighed, not wanting Clara to suffer any more.

She told her to return.

Clara sobbed a few more times before obediently heading back.

Meanwhile, Desmond was called out by Dione again.

After Desmond was beaten up last time, it was thanks to Maximilian that he survived.

Somehow, the news reached Dione.

She might not have intended to mock him, but her friend was getting on Desmond's nerves.

When Desmond first got Dione's call, he thought she was using this incident to threaten Gabriel.

But when he arrived, he realized it was Violette's idea to have some fun.

Unfortunately, Violette's plan worked, and Desmond, who had no intention of dealing with Dione again, was called out.

Dione and Violette were still at the bar.

As soon as Desmond arrived, Violette pointed at him and laughed.

"Mr. Boleyn still has those scars on his face."

Violette had laughed at him before when his injuries were worse. He was used to it by now.

His face had mostly healed over the past few days, and by tomorrow, the scars might be barely noticeable.

Remembering their last exchange, where he gained nothing, Desmond clenched his fists but didn't respond to her taunts.

"Are you blind?" Violette snapped when he ignored her.

"Ms. Saunders, what do you want from me this time?"

Desmond ignored Violette and looked at Dione, who was sitting in a booth, drinking.

Dione casually pulled Violette down beside her, telling her to calm down.

She then rolled her eyes at Desmond. "What could I possibly want from you? Who do you think you are?"

She looked down on Desmond.

After using the incident to threaten and mock him once, she had no interest in calling him out again.

But Violette had heard some gossip that Emma, who had beaten Desmond, was interested in Maximilian.

That was big news.

She called Desmond out to confirm if it was true.

Desmond frowned.

As he suspected, it wasn't Dione's idea to call him out, but Violette's.

He scanned the dim bar, thinking about how to leave quickly.

"Violette, ask your question and then let him go. I can't stand the sight of him," Dione said bluntly.

Violette smiled and, seeing Desmond looking at her, asked, "How far have your brother and Emma gotten?"

Desmond was puzzled and looked at Violette. "Who's Emma?"

Violette rolled her eyes. "Seriously? You don't even know who Emma is?" She turned to Dione. "He probably knows less than I do."

Desmond feigned curiosity and continued, "So, you're saying Emma and Maximilian are involved?"

Dione gave Violette a look, signaling her to get rid of Desmond.

Violette didn't answer his question and told him to leave.

"Get out of here. We'll call you again another time."

Desmond frowned.

It wasn't the order to leave that bothered him, but the part about calling him again.

He said nothing, lowered his head slightly, and walked out of the bar.

Once outside, he lit a cigarette.

Emma's people had beaten him, and when Maximilian came to his rescue, Emma had introduced herself.

Desmond, though dazed at the time, had heard it.

Of course, he knew who Emma was.

He just didn't want Violette and Dione to dig any deeper.

His act of playing dumb had worked, and they let him go without much hassle.

But he didn't expect that as soon as he left, Violette, still unsatisfied, had Dione call Gabriel to ask about it.

Gabriel had heard about Desmond being beaten.

Knowing that Maximilian had saved him, Gabriel started plotting.

Especially after learning that Emma was interested in Maximilian, he had other plans.

However, when Dione tried to probe him over the phone, Gabriel was straightforward—Maximilian was married, and they shouldn't try to interfere.

Desmond knew none of this.

After being scolded by Gabriel, Dione, and Violette, unable to vent their frustration, they called Desmond back.

Desmond had just gotten into his car when he received their call to return to the bar.

He felt like a dog being summoned repeatedly.

He was extremely frustrated but had no choice but to go.

This time, he was forced to drink a lot.

Meanwhile, Oliver was being helped into a casino by another man.

Both seemed quite drunk, reeking of alcohol.

"Sidney Lawson, do you think this is Johnson's fault?" Oliver, slurring his words, slapped Sidney on the shoulder.

Sidney, sobering up a bit from the slap, said, "It is. Don't worry, I'll handle it. I'll arrange a meeting and make him apologize and compensate you!"

Hearing this, Oliver laughed drunkenly. "You're the best. He should compensate."

Though mostly drunk, Oliver felt reassured by Sidney's promise.

He had initially just wanted to find a way to trouble Johnson, but hadn't expected to run into Sidney, Johnson's old friend.

After hearing about Johnson, Sidney had promised to help.

Oliver immediately agreed to drink with him.

"Let's not talk about unhappy things today, Oliver. Let's play a few rounds to relax," Sidney said, leading Oliver to a gambling table.

As Oliver got into the game, Sidney went to the restroom to make a call.

"I've got him at the table. Don't worry, I'll make sure he loses everything!"

The person on the other end said something, and Sidney quickly replied, "No need to thank me. The Thompson family's business is my business. I know you're having a hard time with the Lewis family. We'll meet up later."

After a few more words, Sidney hung up.

Meanwhile, Johnson, having heard that Oliver was in the casino, finally relaxed.
After her rebirth
