Chapter 484 Outrageous Method

Of course, Alex didn't know Maximilian.

If he did, why would he need Katniss to introduce them?

And when Katniss introduced Maximilian, she made it clear he was her boyfriend.

Stella noticed Alex's displeased look and tried to calm him down, "Hey, I just remembered, I've seen that guy in a photo."

"What?" Alex was getting more confused by the minute.

What does seeing Maximilian's photo have to do with Katniss passing the test?

Seeing Alex's impatience, Stella decided to spill everything she knew in one go.

Turned out she had attended a party with a friend and had run into Emma.

At the time, Emma was instructing her subordinates to sabotage someone's girlfriend's exam.

Though Stella was confused by what she overheard, she saw Maximilian's photo on Emma's phone.

Emma was planning to sabotage Katniss's exam.

What a coincidence.

If Stella hadn't run into Maximilian and Katniss today, she might never have known who Emma was targeting.

"Are you saying Ms. Kate likes that guy?" Alex asked.

Stella replied, "Looks like it. Should we warn Katniss to be careful tomorrow?"

Alex said, "I'll talk to Katniss."

But honestly, even if they warned her, it wouldn't make much difference.

If Emma was determined to sabotage Katniss, there was little Katniss could do, especially during the test.

The Kate family had enough power to ensure Katniss failed, using even more covert and forceful methods if necessary.

So, Alex's warning was more about gaining favor with Katniss.

In any case, it seemed unlikely Katniss would pass this test.

After thinking it over, Alex decided there was no point in warning her.

Better to let things unfold naturally.

If Katniss knew and tried to resist, only to fail, it would hurt her more.

Stella didn't press the issue when Alex said he'd handle it.

They quickly returned to the table, where someone asked what they had been whispering about.

Alex deflected the question with a few casual remarks.

Meanwhile, in the private room across the way.

Lucas had been escorted to see Emma by several black-clad bodyguards.

Their attitude wasn't exactly polite, but they were efficient.

When Lucas was unceremoniously dropped onto the carpet, he was disoriented, while the bodyguards took their positions.

Lucas's clothes were rumpled, and his hair was a mess, indicating he had struggled.

He had repeatedly asked what they wanted while in the car, but they only said they were escorting him.

No other explanations were given.

They were well-trained and silent, but their method of escorting him was far from polite.

Though Lucas wasn't bound, he was held firmly the entire time.

From the car to the private room, he felt like a captured dog, unable to control his limbs.

Lucas had considered every possible scenario, even kidnapping, but he hadn't expected to be brought to Emma.

This was surprising.

Such an extreme method seemed typical of Emma.

Emma glanced disdainfully at Lucas on the floor and said casually, "So, what brilliant ideas do you have?"

Lucas was still disoriented and didn't immediately understand Emma's question.

Emma, impatient, signaled to the bodyguards.

They had been with Emma long enough to understand her intentions with just a look.

One of them stepped forward and punched Lucas in the stomach.

After a muffled groan, Lucas cried out in pain.

"Ms. Kate?" Lucas was dazed from the blow.

Since their phone call, Lucas had been waiting for Emma's response, not expecting her to summon him directly.

"It's me."

Emma enjoyed watching his pain-contorted face, finding pleasure in conversing while observing someone being beaten—a joy she discovered from Desmond.

She had since experimented with this on others.

It was quite satisfying.

Lucas was terrified by Emma's laughter, not understanding why she had him beaten, but he dared not ask.

The room fell into an eerie silence.

Meanwhile.

Katniss and Maximilian's car soon arrived at the villa.

Katniss went to prepare for her treatment.

Maximilian changed clothes and walked to the balcony, dialing a number.

After a few moments, the call was answered.

"Hello?" Chris's voice sounded tired.

Maximilian spoke, his tone calm with a hint of a sigh, "Chris, it's me."

Chris immediately recognized Maximilian's voice and asked in surprise, "Why are you calling me now? Don't tell me you need me to work overtime?"

Chris glanced at the time, noting it was just after his busy workday, hence the joke.

Maximilian had mostly handed over company matters to Chris, leaving him free to come and go as he pleased.

Since deciding to drive Katniss, he often arrived late and left early.

Typically, after picking up Katniss, Maximilian wouldn't contact Chris.

Chris knew how much Maximilian doted on Katniss, often spending entire days at home with her.

So, why was Maximilian calling now? Was there a major issue at the company that needed urgent attention?

Maximilian sighed, "No, nothing to make you work overtime."

If Chris had to work late, the office staff wouldn't leave early. Despite their workload, it wasn't that overwhelming.

"You said it," Chris replied, grabbing his suit jacket and heading out, ready to leave.

Maximilian didn't respond.

Chris, putting on his jacket, suddenly asked, "Then why are you calling? Shouldn't you be spending time with Katniss? Isn't she taking her exam tomorrow?"

Maximilian replied, "She's preparing the treatment for me."

"What?" Chris, ever perceptive, immediately grasped the underlying meaning in Maximilian's words.

After her rebirth
