Chapter 390 Will Help You Get It Back

Katniss couldn't shake the image of Emma's look, but Maximilian was laser-focused on Katniss, determined to protect her every second.

Even when Katniss went to the restroom, he waited nearby, just in case.

He was a bit worried Emma might try something, but luckily, nothing happened before they left Kate Villa.

Emma wasn't unwilling to act; she just didn't find the right moment.

Plus, she was too busy after her speech, running around like a headless chicken.

By the time she had a moment to herself, Maximilian and Katniss were long gone.

When she heard from the servants that they had left, Emma was in a foul mood.

Only the thought of another chance later made her feel a bit better.

Meanwhile, Katniss and Maximilian were on their way home.

Thinking about Emma's gaze at Maximilian, Katniss felt a heavy weight in her heart.

How could she hide her feelings from Maximilian?

After getting in the car, Maximilian sat beside her, noticing her unease. He gently asked, "What's up? You okay?"

Katniss shook her head, not answering.

Maximilian paused, then asked, "Something on your mind?"

Before they arrived, Katniss had been fine, but now she seemed down and distracted. Something had happened.

They had been together the whole time, and he hadn't let his guard down.

Katniss shouldn't have encountered anything.

Eliminating those possibilities, it must be something Katniss was thinking about that upset her.

Katniss bit her lip, hesitating for a moment before asking, "What do you think of Ms. Kate?"

Hearing Emma's name, Maximilian frowned.

"Not much," he replied decisively, surprising Katniss enough to look up at him.

Seeing her surprised expression, Maximilian realized she was misunderstanding something and sighed.

"I only like you."

His sudden declaration left Katniss stunned.

She remembered Conrad was in the front seat, and he turned around, surprised.

Her face turned bright red, and even her ears were suspiciously flushed.

Seeing Katniss blushing and Conrad looking over curiously, Maximilian quickly pulled her into his arms, shielding her shy expression from view.

Katniss nestled into his embrace, her cheeks and ears still burning.

The car was quiet, no one speaking.

But Katniss could hear their intense heartbeats, pounding like drums.

It took a while for her emotions to settle.

She thought she'd feel better once they got home, but Maximilian was even more unstoppable, carrying her straight to the bedroom.

Katniss felt both shy and flustered, yet there was an inexplicable anticipation in her heart.

Soon, Katniss found herself unable to resist.

When she woke up the next morning, her face was red again.

Maximilian had stayed home today, not going to the office.

Seeing Katniss awake, he pulled her close and asked, "Where do you want to go today? I'll go with you."

He asked because he knew Katniss would have a few days off after her test.

He didn't want to miss the chance to spend time with her.

As for work, he could delegate it to Chris or handle it later.

Katniss thought for a moment before saying, "I don't want to go out. Let's just stay home."

With Maximilian by her side, she didn't want to go out. Staying home together was perfect for her.

Maximilian didn't push her to go out, knowing her personality. He was content to spend the day at home with her.

Their days were warm and beautiful.

Meanwhile, Clara woke up and heard Dylan mention Elodie's situation several times, finally understanding his intentions.

Dylan wanted to use her illness to calm Elodie down, preventing her from causing trouble in Luminous City.

Though she felt uncomfortable, Clara agreed to try to soothe Elodie.

After all, Elodie causing trouble in Luminous City wouldn't be good for her either.

Lucas and Oliver were helping her find a kidney donor.

If Elodie went back and stirred things up, it might delay the process.

Entering the hospital room, Clara saw Nathan trying to calm Elodie.

But Elodie wasn't listening, even snapping at Nathan.

Seeing Nathan's face turn pale, Clara worried he might faint and quickly said, "Nathan, you should rest. I'll stay with Mom."

Nathan was exhausted. He knew Clara was there to calm Elodie as Dylan wanted, so he left after giving a few instructions.

He was still a patient himself and couldn't hold on much longer.

Elodie had learned about Clara's illness shortly after waking up, but Dylan and Nathan hadn't told her Clara needed a kidney transplant to avoid worrying her.

Now, they had to let Clara tell Elodie and keep her from returning to Luminous City.

With Nathan gone, Elodie's attention shifted entirely to Clara.

Seeing Clara's pale face, even worse than when she first woke up, and her slightly red eyes, Elodie was concerned.

"Clara, why do you look so pale? Didn't Dylan find a good doctor for you?"

Elodie had been holding back her anger while Nathan tried to calm her.

Seeing Clara's condition, she angrily questioned Dylan.

Her agitation made her cough.

"Dylan found someone to treat me. It takes time," Clara explained softly, patting Elodie's back.

Once Elodie calmed down, Clara sat by her bed and said, "Mom, you just woke up. You shouldn't get too worked up."

Elodie knew her condition and accepted Clara's words.

After calming down, she said, "Clara, I want to go back to Luminous City. Come with me."

Hearing Elodie still wanted to return, Clara frowned and said quietly, "Mom, I can't go back to Luminous City."

Seeing Clara's hesitant expression, Elodie asked, "Why can't you go back? Don't worry, I'll make sure you get proper treatment."

Clara shook her head, biting her lip. "Mom, I was set up before, so my reputation in Luminous City isn't good."

She had cried about this by Elodie's bedside before, but Elodie had been too out of it to remember.

Now, Clara's mention brought back memories of her crying by the bed.

"Was it Katniss who hurt you?" Elodie's face twisted with anger and disgust. "She bullied you while I was gone!"

Clara didn't respond, seeming to confirm Elodie's words.

"Don't worry, Clara. I'll get justice for you!" Elodie said, her emotions high. "I'll go to Luminous City first, handle things, then come back to help you."

Clara quickly tried to dissuade her. "Mom, you just woke up. It's not a good time to go to Luminous City."

"Why not?" Elodie became agitated.

She couldn't believe Clara was trying to stop her from going to Luminous City.

She had always treated Clara better than Oliver.

How could Clara side with Oliver now?

After her rebirth
