Chapter 436 Taken Away by the Police
Idris's expression was tense.
Emma's other uncle, Jett, jumped in, "Is that any way to talk to your elders? Emma, you're getting more and more out of line. Don't think we don't know what you've been up to lately!"
Emma shot them a defiant look. "What I do is none of your business. I just found a guy I like. Are you saying I can't even have a relationship when I come back?"
She had been openly pursuing Maximilian recently, so it was no surprise that the Kate family knew about it.
However, if the Kate family were willing to help her put some pressure on Maximilian to get what she wanted, she wouldn't mind.
Her uncle Kade said, "Emma, you're not a kid anymore. It's time to settle down, but Maximilian isn't the right choice. Not only is he married, but his status doesn't match yours."
Emma smiled casually. "I like him."
"He's not an option!" Idris said firmly, his expression stern.
Emma sneered, "If we can't have a proper conversation, let's not talk about this. Is there anything else you wanted to discuss?"
The group hadn't expected Emma to be so stubborn.
They thought about the shipment but didn't bring it up.
"If there's nothing else, I'm going to bed." Emma yawned and walked out, completely indifferent to their attitude.
Since returning, she hadn't stayed at the Kate Villa much, spending most of her time at her place.
Sometimes, she even stayed out all night, either at a hotel or a club.
After she left, the room fell into silence.
"Idris, maybe we should..."
He was cut off immediately. "No way!"
Emma left with a mocking smile on her face.
Soon, she resumed her relentless pursuit of Maximilian.
Maximilian had already blocked Emma, so she got a new phone number to text him instead of calling.
When Maximilian realized it was Emma, he quickly blocked the new number, too.
Emma, not getting a response, called him, but no one answered.
She realized she had been blocked again.
"He's not keeping his word," Emma thought angrily and ordered her people to find Desmond.
However, after a long wait, her people couldn't find Desmond.
They discovered he had returned to Luminous City.
"Back to Luminous City?" Emma was even angrier and stormed to Maximilian's company.
"I want to see Mr. Hamilton," she demanded furiously at the reception.
The receptionist, who knew Emma well, immediately informed Chris.
Chris met with Emma, maintaining a calm demeanor despite her angry expression. "Ms. Kate, Mr. Hamilton has already left for the day."
Emma was about to explode, but she noticed the security team behind Chris, clearly prepared for her.
"You say he's gone home? I want to go up and check!" Emma didn't believe him, but held back her temper, seeing the number of people.
Chris was helpless, especially facing Emma's unreasonable behavior.
"Mr. Hamilton has gone home," he repeated.
The Kate family was still a powerful entity they couldn't afford to offend, even if Emma, the heir, seemed like a useless figure.
Emma was barely holding back her anger. "Is Maximilian hiding from me on purpose?"
"Ms. Kate, instead of worrying about Mr. Hamilton, you should be more concerned about the Kate family," Chris said, standing up to show her out. "Please, Ms. Kate."
Emma paused, thinking of something.
"Let's go!" Emma stormed out, just as furious as when she arrived.
Maximilian had indeed left early, but he wasn't heading home.
When his car pulled up at the entrance of Starhaven Medical University, he got a call from Chris.
"Hey, just a heads-up, Emma came looking for you again," Chris mentioned casually.
Maximilian sighed, "She just doesn't give up, does she?"
"By the way, Emma doesn't seem too concerned about the Kate family's troubles," Chris added.
Maximilian replied, "She probably has a hand in it."
Chris was taken aback. "When did you figure that out?"
"Just now," Maximilian said briefly. Patrick had continued investigating and found the initial information suspicious.
Their conversation was cut short when Maximilian spotted Katniss. "Gotta go, she's here."
As Katniss approached the car, Maximilian stepped out to greet her.
"How was your day?" he asked.
Katniss smiled. "Had a little issue, but it's half resolved."
Seeing she wasn't too troubled, he asked, "What happened?"
Katniss got in the car with him and started recounting her morning.
At the hospital, Dylan hadn't expected the police to come after him.
He had just asked someone to post a paper revealing Katniss's true nature. Why were the police accusing him of spreading rumors?
"I didn't spread any rumors!" Dylan firmly denied.
But the police had already brought Victor to him. Seeing Victor, Dylan's face stiffened.
"It was him! He gave me the paper!" Victor's eyes lit up when he saw Dylan.
Katniss had promised to forgive him if he cooperated, which meant he wouldn't be detained.
Dylan quickly denied knowing Victor after the identification. "I don't know him!"
But soon, his notebook was found, and the handwriting matched the paper.
Dylan, still unwilling to give up, argued that Katniss had indeed let someone die and framed him, but the police took it as a confession.
Katniss received a call from the police before getting out of the car, asking how she wanted to handle the situation.
Dylan could be detained unless the victim forgave him.
"No forgiveness," Katniss said without hesitation, holding her phone.
She wasn't going to give Dylan another chance to provoke her.
She had thought the previous lesson was enough, but Dylan hadn't learned and had escalated his actions.
Since that was the case, she decided to let Dylan be detained for a few days, giving herself some peace.
As for Nathan and Clara's illness, they had tried to harm her.
Why should she care if they died from their illness?
After discussing the process and detention period with the police, Katniss hung up.
Maximilian looked at her after she ended the call. "All sorted?"
"All sorted," Katniss nodded with a smile. "Dylan will be detained for a few days, so we should have some peace."
Maximilian raised his hand to ruffle her hair. "You're amazing."
Katniss blushed, lowering her head, unsure how to respond.
Knowing she was shy, Maximilian pulled her into his arms, not teasing her further.
With Katniss's decision, Dylan was taken away by the police in front of his colleagues and Nathan.
Nathan was stunned, not expecting Dylan to slander Katniss to the point of being taken away by the police.
He stood there, pale and frozen, watching Dylan being led away.
