Chapter 459 Just a Coincidence

Ryan wanted to go after Katniss because Clara had egged him on.

Thinking about it, keeping an eye on Clara might give them the exact time of Ryan's release.

But Ethan had already anticipated this and had someone watching Clara.

That was impressive.

"Seriously, Ethan, you guessed Clara would bail Ryan out?" Tyler couldn't help but be impressed, though he was also puzzled.

Ethan replied calmly, "Just a coincidence."

After Clara had set him up before, Ethan had outwardly let it go, but he held a grudge inside.

So he had someone keep tabs on Clara.

Seeing what Clara was up to behind the scenes, he didn't feel as bitter as before.

Noticing Ethan's low spirits, Scarlett stopped Tyler from asking more questions and changed the subject, "Ryan's out now, Katniss, you need to be extra careful."

Katniss observed their expressions and conversation, realizing Tyler had told Ethan about Ryan's actions yesterday.

Hearing that Ethan had been keeping an eye on Clara and had informed her out of concern for her safety, she felt a warmth in her heart, appreciating the comfort of true friendship.

"Don't worry, I always have bodyguards with me. I'm not afraid of Ryan."

Mentioning Ryan didn't scare Katniss much.

After all, Ryan didn't have much power, and even the people he brought to confront her last time were pretty average.

However, if possible, she wanted to use Ryan to mess with Clara.

As long as Ryan exposed Clara, Clara wouldn't be able to hide behind him and enjoy her freedom.

But yesterday, when Ryan was arrested, he insisted he was just passing by and didn't reveal anyone behind the scenes.

Scarlett, hearing Katniss mention her bodyguards, remembered their formidable skills and couldn't help but say, "Mr. Hamilton cares about you. The people protecting you are top-notch."

Katniss smiled.

Soon, they started talking about other things, but Ethan suddenly received a call and had to leave immediately.

"What's up, Ethan?" Katniss asked.

Ethan replied, "My grandmother is critically ill. Katniss, can you help me get an excuse for the afternoon training?"

Katniss nodded quickly.

After Ethan left, Tyler sighed, "Ethan's grandmother has been critically ill several times. I wonder if this time..."

He didn't finish his sentence, but everyone knew what he meant.

Scarlett's face showed her concern, and Katniss felt a tightness in her chest.

Soon, they finished lunch and went their separate ways.

Katniss first got an excuse from Ethan, then headed to the training room.

As soon as she entered, she saw Alex and Stella.

They seemed to be waiting for her, and Stella immediately smiled and asked, "Katniss, where's Ethan?"

Katniss didn't like Stella much, but she still answered, "Ethan took the day off."

Hearing Ethan was absent, Stella's expression stiffened.

She responded briefly, then said, "Katniss, the training is almost over. How about we all get together tonight? Everyone else agreed."

Katniss shook her head, "I can't. I have someone waiting at home."

It wasn't someone waiting at home; Maximilian had been picking her up at the school gate every day recently.

Besides, she had no interest in Stella's gatherings.

Among the trainees, she was only close to Ethan.

She knew Stella, Alex, and Victor, who had previously helped Dylan slander her.

She didn't interact much with the others and didn't want to.

Seeing Katniss refuse again, Alex said, "Katniss, everyone is going. It wouldn't be good for you to skip."

Katniss looked at him and asked, "Why not?"

Alex's expression changed several times before he said, "You wouldn't fit in."

Katniss replied coldly, "I don't care about fitting in. Why should you?"

With that, she headed to her seat.

Alex thought for a moment and followed her, saying, "If today doesn't work, we can gather tomorrow. Ethan probably won't take another day off."

He implied that Katniss was only refusing because Ethan couldn't attend today.

Katniss disliked his misinterpretation and his persistence.

"Tomorrow won't work either." She didn't plan to stay in Starhaven much longer, so she didn't need to accommodate Alex.

Regardless of whether she passed the upcoming test and moved to the next round, she wouldn't stay in Starhaven.

If she advanced, she would likely train abroad.

If she didn't, she would return to Luminous City to complete her studies.

Katniss was prepared for either outcome.

The afternoon training ended quickly, and Katniss ignored Alex's attempts to approach her, hurrying outside.

Alex wanted to follow, but Conrad appeared and blocked his way, also obstructing his view of Katniss.

Soon, Katniss was far away.

As she exited the school gate, she saw the familiar black car waiting.

She walked towards it, and Maximilian got out and approached her.

As usual, Katniss was embraced by Maximilian.

"Good job today," Maximilian's deep voice sounded in her ear, his concern and longing almost palpable.

Katniss felt her ears heat up, as if burned by the warmth of his breath.

"You're the one working hard," she murmured.

She truly believed it, as Maximilian had been juggling his home and company while also picking her up.

Talking, they got into the back seat, with Conrad naturally taking the front passenger seat.

Katniss's bodyguards quickly got into their car parked outside, following Maximilian's car.

As their car drove away, Emma, in a nearby car, asked coldly, "This is your idea of seeing Maximilian?"

"Yeah, Ms. Kate, you did see him," the man replied smugly.

He didn't understand why Emma hadn't approached him directly.

"Terrible idea! Why didn't you suggest waiting outside his house?"

The man, after being scolded, thought Emma's idea made sense, "Yeah! Why didn't I think of that?"

"Get lost." Emma kicked him out of the car in disgust.

After her rebirth
