Chapter 393 Simply Annoyed by Her
Emma stared at Katniss for a moment before blurting out, "Wow, Ms. Manners sure gets spooked easily."
Katniss looked at her, puzzled, prompting Emma to continue, "You look a bit pale."
"Where's Ms. Kate taking me?" Katniss ignored the teasing and asked directly.
Just as Emma was about to respond, the car came to a sudden stop. The bodyguard driving said, "Miss, someone's blocking the car."
"Who is it?"
Katniss quickly looked outside and relaxed when she saw it was Conrad.
Conrad must have realized she was missing after retrieving the item and immediately came after her.
"Your guy?" Emma asked.
Katniss opened the car door. "Ms. Kate, let's chat another day. My husband should be back soon."
She deliberately mentioned Maximilian and observed Emma's reaction, noticing the brief frown on her face.
As Katniss stepped out, Emma seemed to hesitate, but didn't stop her.
Once outside, Katniss breathed a sigh of relief.
Conrad rushed over to protect her, asking, "Mrs. Hamilton, are you alright?"
Conrad was terrified at the thought of almost losing Katniss.
"I'm fine," Katniss shook her head, glancing at Emma before closing the car door. "Let's go back."
Emma watched the closed car door with a peculiar expression, remaining silent for a while.
"Ms. Kate, should we bring her back?" the bodyguard in the front seat asked.
Emma chuckled, "Forget it. We'll talk to her another day."
She found Katniss somewhat interesting.
However, Maximilian was the man she had her eyes on, and she would find a way to make Katniss give up on her own.
"Ms. Kate, we could just kidnap her and force her to divorce Maximilian," the bodyguard in the passenger seat suggested, knowing Emma's intentions.
"Idiot!" Emma snapped.
Her men had already beaten up Desmond before, and now this brute was suggesting kidnapping Katniss.
Did he not care about the impression she wanted to leave on Maximilian?
Emma didn't particularly like Katniss.
If it weren't for wanting to leave a good impression on Maximilian, she wouldn't have been so polite to Katniss.
The bodyguard, scolded, dared not offer any more suggestions.
Emma leaned back in her seat and said, "Take me to Maximilian's company."
Though she was likely to be turned away again, she enjoyed visiting Maximilian.
The car sped off, and Katniss called Maximilian.
She knew Conrad would report the near-abduction, so she briefly mentioned her encounter with Emma.
Not wanting to worry Maximilian too much, she didn't mention that Emma might seek her out again.
After interacting with Emma, Katniss didn't find her particularly frightening.
However, Maximilian had told her about the Kate family's background, and she knew it was best to avoid someone like Emma.
Katniss and Maximilian didn't talk for long before hanging up.
Unexpectedly, Maximilian, worried about her, returned home shortly after.
Thus, when Emma arrived at his company, she found he had just left.
Facing the smiling receptionist who said, "Mr. Hamilton just left," Emma turned and left in a huff.
As soon as she left, the receptionist breathed a sigh of relief and made an internal call.
Emma had previously brought people to fight with the company's security, so everyone was on high alert around her.
Clara, who had finally calmed down after two days, was shocked to learn that Oliver had come to Starhaven.
Remembering what Oliver had done, she didn't know how to face him.
Oliver had pushed Elodie, which was hard for Clara to accept.
So, she didn't contact Oliver.
But Oliver found her, asking about Johnson.
When Oliver mentioned Johnson, Clara recalled how Johnson had wronged her.
Despite her discomfort, she told Oliver what had happened.
After listening, Oliver left without saying much.
Unable to reach Johnson, he had come to ask Clara.
Once he understood what had happened, he could go to the Thompson family.
After Oliver left, Clara still felt uneasy and wanted to find Desmond, but unexpectedly ran into Katniss.
She instinctively hid, watching Katniss walk away with a smile, feeling increasingly irritated.
At that moment, Katniss was shopping with Scarlett, with Conrad sticking closer than ever after the recent incident.
"Conrad, why are you so tense?" Scarlett teased, noticing their shopping trip had turned into a trio.
Scarlett had been resting in the hospital and had invited Katniss out as soon as she was discharged.
Katniss, taking a break from training, agreed to accompany her.
Conrad, looking serious, said, "I'm not tense."
Scarlett, seeing his demeanor, didn't continue teasing.
After a while, Scarlett, seemingly infected by Conrad's tension, glanced around and muttered, "Why do I feel like someone is watching us?"
Katniss looked around but didn't see anyone familiar. "I don't think so."
Scarlett shrugged off the strange feeling and led Katniss to a restaurant.
But just as they sat down and ordered, two men approached.
The men, dressed as bodyguards, ignored Scarlett and went straight to Katniss. "Ms. Manners, our leader would like to speak with you."
Conrad, standing protectively by Katniss, knew Emma hadn't given up.
"Who is your leader?" Katniss had already guessed it was Emma, even though today's bodyguards were different.
One of the bodyguards replied, "Ms. Manners will know once she arrives. Our miss has reserved a private room."
Katniss didn't want to go, especially disliking their method of inviting.
"I'm not going. I'm having lunch with my friend," Katniss refused outright.
Since they wouldn't even reveal a name, she pretended not to know and wouldn't walk into a trap.
Scarlett, seeing Katniss refuse, didn't wait for the bodyguards to speak and started shooing them away. "Go tell Ms. Kate that Katniss is busy!"
She instinctively disliked their approach and was blunt in her words.
The bodyguards exchanged a glance and left without further comment.
After they walked away, Katniss got up and informed the front desk they were leaving.
Since their food hadn't been prepared yet, they could cancel the order.
"Katniss? Why are we leaving?" Scarlett waited until they were in the car to ask, sensing something serious.
Katniss explained her suspicion.
"Staying there might bring more trouble. Let's find another place to eat."
The way they operated confirmed to her that it was Emma.
Even though today's bodyguards were different, she was sure.
She wasn't afraid of Emma, just found her annoying.
Emma's insistence on talking was bothersome.
Scarlett, hearing this, didn't press further.
