Chapter 473 They Were Too Cowardly

"Find a quiet spot to park. I wanna see what he's up to," Katniss said, a sly smile on her lips, her eyes as sharp as ever.

Conrad thought for a moment before responding, "Mrs. Hamilton, let me handle this. It's too risky for you."

Even if he didn't think Ryan's men were particularly formidable, Conrad couldn't let Katniss take the risk.

Katniss didn't argue, casually agreeing. After all, she could probably see everything from inside the car.

The driver quickly followed Katniss's instructions, steering the car towards a deserted area.

Katniss glanced at the time, thinking that if they dealt with Ryan quickly, she wouldn't be late.

Soon, their two cars had come to a stop.

Ryan, following behind, finally realized something was off.

He hurriedly asked his driver, "Why are we here? Isn't she going to Starhaven Medical University?"

Ryan had brought three cars this time, with more people and stronger fighters than before.

He was determined to make Katniss suffer.

But remembering the formidable bodyguards around Katniss, he felt a bit intimidated.

So, Ryan had planned a surprise attack from the start.

To ensure the success of this ambush, he had even deviated from his original plan with Clara to act in the Amber District.

Amber District was his territory, but he didn't want to reveal his identity this time.

Thus, he had hired people who weren't his usual crew.

Ryan had planned to cover his face and conceal his identity before teaching Katniss a lesson.

"Mr. Martin, they stopped. Should we get out?" The driver asked, confused.

As he spoke, the other side had already gotten out of their cars and were approaching, walking ahead of them.

Ryan realized he had been exposed.

"Drive! They knew we were following them and led us here on purpose!" Ryan shouted.

The driver was puzzled, "But Mr. Martin, we have three cars, and they only have two."

He meant that they had more people than Katniss's group and shouldn't be afraid.

Ryan, recalling the strength of Katniss's bodyguards and not wanting to reveal his identity, urged the driver to leave.

Finally, the driver followed Ryan's orders and drove away.

As one car moved, the other two quickly followed, even though they didn't understand why.

Before Katniss's bodyguards could approach, the three cars had sped off.

"Mrs. Hamilton, they ran away," Conrad said, baffled by the quick retreat of the three cars.

Katniss was equally helpless.

They were pretty cowardly.

The bodyguards returned, and Katniss checked the time, sighing, "Let's head to the university."

They hadn't been delayed long, so she wouldn't be late.

But Ryan's antics had certainly amused her.

Meanwhile, Ryan's three cars returned to the place where he had hired his men—a casino.

Since it was daytime, the casino was quiet, but their return caught the attention of the manager.

The manager was surprised to see Ryan back so soon. "Mr. Martin, you're back already? Is the job done?"

Ryan, looking uncomfortable, replied, "I had an urgent matter. I'll reschedule and send people to block her another day."

He was too embarrassed to admit that he had fled as soon as he realized they had been discovered.

The manager noticed Ryan's discomfort and glanced at the men behind him before responding, "I see."

Ryan quickly brought up the payment.

Even though the hired men hadn't been used, he had to pay.

This casino might look small and shabby, but the people behind it were not to be messed with.

Hearing about the payment, the manager's smile became more genuine.

"Mr. Martin, this way please," the manager gestured, leading Ryan to settle the bill.

After paying, Ryan noticed the mocking looks from the men who had followed him, feeling utterly humiliated.

The manager, having exchanged information with one of the men, approached Ryan with a cheerful smile, "Mr. Martin, if you need help with something like this again, remember to come to us. We're always happy to assist you."

Though the words were polite, Ryan felt they were mocking him.

Looking at the group's blatant smiles, he said, "Next time, I need people who can follow without being noticed. Make sure to find suitable ones."

The manager, understanding the implied criticism, feigned surprise, "Mr. Martin, you weren't planning to attack directly but to kidnap?"

It seemed Ryan hadn't communicated his intentions from the start.

Feeling frustrated, Ryan's face contorted with displeasure.

The manager continued, offering reassurance, "Mr. Martin, who do you want to kidnap? We have a special package for that. You can take a look."

His small, sharp eyes gleamed.

Ryan asked, "Can you guarantee the kidnapping?"

The manager nodded confidently, "Of course! But the price is different from today's hire. It's double."

Ryan, not wanting to risk another failure, agreed.

If the casino could deliver Katniss to him, the double price would be worth it.

Initially, he wanted to kidnap Katniss to get Clara to connect him with the Anderson family.

Now, he wanted to teach Katniss a lesson for having him beaten and detained.

Ryan quickly discussed the details with the manager.

This time, he paid upfront.

Though it hurt to part with the money, the potential benefits made it worthwhile.

However, one thing bothered Ryan.

"Why does it have to be tomorrow? Can't it be today?"

Despite paying, the manager insisted the kidnapping would happen tomorrow.

Ryan suspected he was being deceived.

The manager explained, "Mr. Martin, you've already alerted her today. The chances of success are low. Tomorrow is the best opportunity. Our people found out Katniss will be in the Amber District for a test."

Ryan knew about Katniss's test in the Amber District. He had planned to act tomorrow.

Today's botched attempt due to the driver's poor tracking skills meant they had to wait until tomorrow.

Finally, Ryan agreed, "Fine, tomorrow then. Contact me."
