Chapter 349 The Fiancée
Ethan never expected Tyler to invite Clara; he didn't even know how Tyler knew Clara.
But Clara was already outside, so he didn't hesitate and went out to greet her.
While Ethan was outside, Tyler remembered that Katniss was brought by Ethan and didn't know his other friends.
He didn't neglect Katniss and gathered everyone to introduce her.
"Hey, everyone, this is Ethan's friend, she's training at Starhaven Medical University. Be nice to her, okay? No bullying," Tyler said, half-jokingly, half-seriously, with his usual lively demeanor.
Tyler's friends played along enthusiastically, and Katniss smiled at the group of men and women in front of her. "Hi, I'm Katniss," she said.
As soon as she spoke, everyone started introducing themselves, creating a harmonious and lively atmosphere.
Katniss remembered a few names, and Scarlett handed her some food, leading her to a corner sofa.
"What's up?" Katniss asked Scarlett, sensing that something was on her mind.
Scarlett whispered, "Katniss, can you help me get closer to Ethan?"
Katniss looked at Scarlett, seeing her shy and hesitant demeanor, completely different from her usual self, and realized she wasn't joking.
"But how can I help you?" Katniss was puzzled, unsure of how she could assist Scarlett.
Although she and Ethan were from the same school, their only connection was attending the training at Starhaven together.
Scarlett asking her for help seemed less effective than asking Tyler.
"Are you agreeing?" Scarlett's first reaction to Katniss's question was to ask excitedly.
Katniss nodded and asked, "What do you need me to do?" She didn't think she could help much.
Scarlett hesitated before quickly saying, "I just want a chance to spend time with Ethan. If I keep approaching him, it might not work, but I can approach you."
Katniss smiled and said, "After we discuss our project, you can come find me."
She didn't have many friends at Starhaven, and despite a small misunderstanding at first, she found Scarlett's personality agreeable and got along well with her.
Scarlett was overjoyed and almost hugged Katniss in gratitude, but Katniss gently pushed her away.
Scarlett wasn't upset and started talking about her feelings for Ethan.
Katniss listened half-heartedly, thinking about going home soon.
Although Maximilian was working late, she didn't want him to come home and find her there.
Just as she was thinking this, Maximilian texted her, saying he finished work early and was coming to pick her up.
Katniss relaxed and sent Maximilian the address of Tyler's house.
She regretted not knowing earlier that Maximilian would finish work so soon; she could have waited for him at his office.
But she was already at the party, so she decided to wait for Maximilian.
Tyler and a few others were drinking and chatting, occasionally including Katniss in the conversation.
Seeing she wasn't interested in chatting, they didn't push her.
Fortunately, the atmosphere in the villa was pleasant, and everyone was having a good time.
Outside the villa, Clara had dressed up specially.
Ethan was surprised when he saw her; her outfit wasn't extravagant, but suited her well.
Clara shyly said, "Mr. Anderson?"
Ethan's attire was different from the suit and tie Clara had seen before; he looked more like a student, as she had seen him in the coffee shop.
But she insisted on calling him Mr. Anderson.
"It's me. Just call me by my name," Ethan said, nodding at Clara. "I didn't expect Tyler to invite you."
He didn't ask how Tyler knew Clara, but remembered the conversations he had with Katniss about Clara.
"Do you not want me here?" Clara asked timidly.
Ethan shook his head. "No, let's go inside."
Clara bit her lip, feeling that Ethan's attitude towards her had changed, but she wasn't sure and didn't dare to ask more. She followed him inside.
"You finally brought her in. Took you long enough," Tyler remarked when he saw them enter, then leaned closer to Ethan and asked, "Surprised?"
Ethan glanced at him and asked quietly, "How do you know Clara?"
Tyler shrugged, seeing Ethan's serious expression, and felt bored. "Guess."
He had thought Clara was Ethan's fling from that night, so he invited her casually, not expecting this reaction from Ethan.
Ethan didn't seem to welcome Clara.
Were they not close?
But Clara's attitude towards Ethan seemed very familiar; her eyes were locked on him when they entered.
Ethan wasn't interested in guessing games and gave Tyler a bland look.
Just then, another guy with dyed yellow hair approached and asked Ethan, "Ethan, who's this? Aren't you going to introduce her?"
Ethan brushed Tyler aside and introduced Clara to everyone in the room.
"This is Clara, my fiancée."
His words caused an uproar in the villa.
"Fiancée? Ethan, that's not fair! You've been hiding her from us!"
As the one who invited Clara, Tyler was shocked and asked, "What? I randomly invited your fiancée?"
Ethan didn't respond to Tyler's shock, and others started greeting Clara.
"Clara? Nice to meet you. We're Ethan's friends. He kept you hidden. If Tyler hadn't invited you, we wouldn't have known."
Katniss and Scarlett heard Ethan's words. Katniss frowned but stayed silent, while Scarlett was wide-eyed and incredulous.
"Who is she? How can she be Ethan's fiancée? I've never heard of her!" Scarlett was panicked, grabbing Katniss's hand and asking excitedly.
Katniss gently patted her hand to calm her. "Don't worry."
She looked at Clara, recalling Ethan asking about her earlier, and understood why he was inquiring.
But a fiancée? What was going on?
Had the Manners family gained so much influence?
After breaking off the engagement with the Boleyn family in Luminous City, they managed to find Ethan as a fiancé for Clara in Starhaven?
Moreover, it was strange that Ethan hadn't heard any scandals about Clara in Luminous City.
Could the Anderson family accept Clara without investigating her?
This situation was too bizarre for Katniss to describe.
She continued to comfort Scarlett while quietly sitting on the corner sofa, not intending to join the crowd.
Tyler and the others surrounded Clara and Ethan with curiosity and congratulations, but most were scrutinizing Clara.
Clara was both shocked and delighted that Ethan acknowledged her status, but she felt uneasy under everyone's scrutiny.
