Chapter 410 More Beautiful Than Flowers
Not wanting to interrupt Maximilian's work, Katniss didn't stay long in his office and soon said she would go for a walk outside.
Maximilian immediately stood up, looking like he wanted to accompany her. "I'll go with you."
Katniss glanced at the towering stack of files on his desk and caught Chris's pleading look.
She slowly shook her head. "You guys are swamped. I'm just gonna wander around."
She had come to the company with Maximilian, not intending for him to accompany her the whole time.
Maximilian hesitated before saying, "Just make sure to come back and find me."
He was genuinely worried that Katniss might leave for home to avoid disturbing him.
Katniss readily agreed and left the office.
Maximilian's gaze lingered on the door until it closed behind her.
Chris looked at Maximilian and said, "Stop staring, you're gonna burn a hole through the door. Get back to the files."
"She's more beautiful than any flower," Maximilian replied, his expression unchanged, leaving Chris stunned.
Outside, Katniss was in a good mood, walking with a light step.
But she hadn't gone far when she ran into someone unexpected—Yasmin.
Yasmin was dressed simply and neatly, looking much more composed than the last time they met.
When Katniss saw Yasmin, Yasmin also noticed her.
With a glance, Yasmin smiled and walked over to Katniss. "Mrs. Hamilton, what a coincidence!"
Katniss was surprised that Yasmin greeted her first. She remembered the last time they met at Maximilian's company, Yasmin's attitude was far from friendly.
"Yeah, Ms. Thorne," Katniss replied calmly, nodding before continuing towards the break room.
She was now completely unaffected by Yasmin.
Yasmin's smile was strained.
It wasn't that she wanted to act this way towards Katniss, but she had no choice.
After meeting Maximilian at Starhaven and settling at a relative's house, she had been warned by Maximilian's people.
Moreover, she had been scolded by her family back in Luminous City.
She didn't know how Maximilian found out about her conversation with Katniss, but she had paid the price for her impulsiveness.
The Thorne family had sent her to discuss business.
Her initial approach with a suitcase to find Maximilian, which had upset Katniss, was indeed her mistake.
This even led to Maximilian being unwilling to advance the cooperation with the Thorne family, which had been driving her crazy these past few days.
Reflecting on it, Yasmin felt regret.
So, when she saw Katniss, her nerves immediately tensed up.
Seeing Katniss in a good mood, Yasmin quickly followed her, seizing the opportunity to ask, "Mrs. Hamilton, are you here to see Mr. Hamilton?"
Katniss didn't mind Yasmin following her, but was surprised she spoke again.
She glanced at her, then lightly shook her head.
She wasn't here to see Maximilian but had come with him to the company.
However, she wasn't about to explain that to Yasmin.
Yasmin noticed Katniss's reluctance to engage but knew she had to maintain a good relationship with her for the sake of the business cooperation.
She thought that perhaps if she got along well with Katniss, the cooperation would proceed smoothly.
Katniss glanced at Yasmin, puzzled as to why she was following her.
Although Yasmin was smiling, Katniss found it uncomfortable and unlikable.
"Mrs. Hamilton, are you heading to the break room?" Yasmin's expression was almost frozen in a smile, but she had to keep asking.
Katniss shook her head. "I'm just wandering around."
She had intended to go to the break room to sit, read, and have some coffee, but she didn't want to admit it in front of Yasmin to avoid further conversation.
Even though she was still heading in the direction of the break room.
Katniss's unpredictability left Yasmin awkwardly smiling, and she stiffly made a request, "I see. Mrs. Hamilton, could you ask Mr. Hamilton if he has time to meet?"
"Go ask Mr. Peterson," Katniss said, then walked straight into the break room, leaving Yasmin behind.
Fortunately, Yasmin didn't follow her in.
While Katniss enjoyed her leisure time, Clara was in Elodie's ward when a phone rang.
Startled by the sound, Clara quickly found the source on the bed—it was Desmond's phone.
Recognizing it immediately, she worried the ringing would wake Elodie, so she answered it and stepped out of the room.
As soon as she picked up, the caller gave the address and room number of a club.
Seeing Dione's name on the screen, Clara remembered Desmond's previous date and was too shocked to speak.
The caller hung up after giving the information.
Clara repeated the address and room number to herself.
Meanwhile, Desmond was being scolded by Emma's people.
The bodyguard driving Desmond back was cursing him, "Are you sure your phone is at the hospital? You're not trying to use this as an excuse to escape, are you?"
It was just the two of them in the car.
Emma had found it too troublesome to come back, so she got out when the car reached Maximilian's company.
But she had given strict orders not to let Desmond escape.
The bodyguard didn't think Desmond would dare run but kept a close eye on him, starting to intimidate him even before they got out of the car.
Desmond had no intention of running.
Although he had other ways to contact Maximilian, he couldn't leave his phone at the hospital.
So, after Emma's several failed attempts to reach Maximilian, he mentioned needing to retrieve his phone.
As soon as the car stopped, Desmond jumped out.
The bodyguard followed closely, keeping a tight watch on him.
Desmond headed straight for Elodie's room and saw Clara outside.
"Desmond, you're back?" Clara looked up, surprised to see Desmond returning so soon.
She had thought it would be a long time before he came back, but here he was.
It seemed Desmond hadn't lied to her.
He had said he would return quickly, and he did.
Desmond didn't know what Clara was thinking.
Seeing her speak to him, he quickly stopped and whispered to the bodyguard, "Lucas, can you wait here for a moment? I need to ask her if she's seen my phone."
The bodyguard gave him a sideways glance. "Two minutes."
Desmond, hearing his agreement, hurried over to Clara.
Clara then noticed the person with Desmond, dressed like the one who had taken him away, but not the same person.
She stopped, watching Desmond approach.
"Clara, why haven't you gone home to rest?" Desmond asked, concerned, seeing her pale face up close.
