Chapter 400 No One Is Allowed to Destroy
Dylan waited outside Maximilian's company building, feeling a bit anxious.
He didn't have an appointment, and after talking to the receptionist, he had been waiting for quite a while.
Finally, someone came down, but it wasn't Maximilian; it was Chris.
Chris greeted Dylan politely, "Mr. Hamilton isn't here right now. If you have something to discuss, you can tell me, and I'll pass the message along tomorrow."
Dylan frowned and asked, "Can you pass the message now? It's urgent."
Chris looked a bit uncomfortable. "Mr. Hamilton is resting today. It's not a good time to disturb him."
Maximilian had gone home to rest around noon, annoyed by Emma's constant pestering.
Now with Dylan showing up, it was only fair to treat everyone equally.
"Could you please tell him that I'm Katniss's brother and I have something very important to discuss with him?" Dylan asked.
Chris gave him a puzzled look, surprised by his identity and even more surprised that he couldn't reach Maximilian himself.
Chris agreed casually and then politely saw Dylan out.
Dylan frowned deeply but didn't push further.
Before leaving, he exchanged contact information with Chris.
After Dylan left, Chris sent a text message to Maximilian.
He didn't intend to disturb Maximilian, so if Maximilian saw the text, it meant he was still free.
Maximilian was indeed free at the moment.
He had been annoyed by Emma's repeated pestering and decided to go home.
He had been spending time with Katniss since she finished her training.
Katniss was surprised to see Maximilian come home early.
She checked his health as usual and then gave him a treatment.
Recently, Maximilian hadn't shown any signs of emotional outbursts or self-harm.
Even when Katniss left for a test, he was fine during those two days.
This was undoubtedly great news for Katniss.
She felt that if they continued the treatment, Maximilian would get better.
After the treatment, Maximilian was sweating.
When he came out after cleaning up, Katniss was reading a book.
He didn't want to disturb her, but also didn't want to be too far away, so he sat next to her. He couldn't help but glance at her from time to time.
"Is the company not busy today?" Katniss asked, putting her book aside after being distracted by him again.
She had borrowed the book from the library and had read most of it, but with Maximilian occasionally looking at her, she couldn't focus.
Maximilian replied, "Not busy. Chris can handle it."
Katniss nodded, remembering how Maximilian had been sneaking glances at her.
She couldn't help but ask, "Do you have something to tell me?"
Maximilian hesitated for a moment.
Just when Katniss thought he wouldn't say anything, he suddenly spoke, "Dylan came to the company looking for me."
He had seen Chris's text for a while but had been debating whether to tell Katniss.
He was sure Dylan's visit wasn't for anything good, so he didn't want Katniss to know.
Moreover, he had already asked someone to investigate Dylan's intentions.
But Emma's people were always following his, so his people would be restricted.
He had already asked Patrick to look into it, hoping Patrick could find something.
"He's probably trying to get me to treat Nathan," Katniss guessed Dylan's purpose immediately.
After all, Elodie and Clara had blocked her when she left school before.
But she hadn't let them get anything from her.
Maximilian raised an eyebrow, recalling how Dylan had cornered them at the company building when he first arrived in Starhaven, asking Katniss to treat Nathan.
"Yeah, probably. Patrick's already on it," Maximilian said, confident that Patrick would uncover the details soon.
Katniss pondered for a moment but didn't say anything further.
Patrick worked quickly. Just as they mentioned, he called.
Maximilian didn't shy away from Katniss, mentioning Patrick's name and answering the call right in front of her.
"I found out. Dylan wants you to convince Katniss to treat Nathan," Patrick said.
Katniss rolled her eyes. Dylan's intentions were indeed predictable.
"Anything else?" Maximilian asked Patrick.
Patrick continued, "Nathan's been in the emergency room twice in the past two days. His condition's pretty bad, and it looks like they're gearing up for a match with Clara."
"A match?" Katniss asked, looking at the phone.
Patrick chuckled, "Yeah, Katniss, you're there too. I checked Nathan and Clara's doctors. They mentioned the match in their texts."
Katniss felt a chill.
She knew Patrick was a computer whiz with some hacking skills, but she didn't expect him to do this.
Patrick shared a few more details, and then Maximilian hung up.
After hanging up, Maximilian concluded, "Dylan wants to donate a kidney to Clara."
Katniss nodded, "They haven't matched yet, so it's not certain."
"I'll have Patrick keep an eye on it," Maximilian decided.
Katniss nodded, not bringing up Nathan's treatment.
The last time she treated Nathan, she noticed something was off.
He had angered her for no reason, maybe to make the kidney donation to Clara go smoothly.
For Clara, he was willing to risk his life.
Thinking about how she had saved him from death several times before, Katniss felt it was a waste of emotions.
Maximilian saw her face darken and hugged her to comfort her.
Katniss let him hold her, feeling much better both physically and mentally.
While they were hugging, Katniss's phone suddenly rang.
It was Sophia and the others who had discussed and hesitated for a long time before deciding to tell Katniss about Dylan finding someone to locate Scarlett.
They wanted to make sure Katniss was prepared for any tricks Dylan might pull.
Katniss left Maximilian's embrace and answered the call.
Her friends quickly explained Dylan's actions, and Katniss found it amusing.
She thanked her friends for standing up for her and reminded them to be careful before hanging up.
After hanging up, she and Maximilian looked at each other.
"I blocked Dylan, but he still found a way," Katniss sighed.
Dylan finding Maximilian was expected since he was her husband.
But she didn't expect Dylan to go after her friends, too.
Although Sophia and the others didn't mind and even played a trick on Dylan, she knew that if Dylan couldn't reach her through Scarlett and Maximilian, he would bother others.
It seemed she had to talk to Dylan, whether on the phone or in person.
Maximilian comforted her, "It's not your problem."
"I know," Katniss replied with a smile.
She certainly didn't think it was her problem.
The Manners family had many issues and was very disruptive.
In both her past and present lives, she just wanted to avoid them and live peacefully.
She cherished this life, being with Maximilian and having a group of friends.
It was precious to her.
She wouldn't let anyone ruin it.
