Chapter 498 They Should Go Back
Clara had just settled into her seat when the car suddenly sped off, leaving a trail of dust behind.
As soon as the car left, another vehicle pulled up in front of the Manners family's house.
Lucas stepped out, ready to head inside.
Dennis quickly called out, "Hey, mind if I come in with you?"
Lucas had been roughed up by Emma's crew yesterday, but most of the injuries were hidden under his clothes, making it seem like he was fine.
Dennis had helped Lucas with his injuries the previous day and knew he must still be in pain.
Considering Lucas had mentioned he was taking the Manners family back to Luminous City, and Dennis himself had plans to develop there, it made sense for them to go in together.
Lucas glanced at Dennis but didn't say anything, standing still.
Seeing that Lucas didn't object, Dennis parked his car and walked over to Lucas. "Let's go."
Lucas finally started walking towards the house, almost completely ignoring Dennis.
Dennis followed behind, sending a text to a number on his phone.
Almost immediately, he received a reply.
Meanwhile, in one of the Manners family's bedrooms, Nathan's phone buzzed.
He picked it up and saw a message from the private hospital doctor.
Nathan quickly opened the message.
At the same time, as Lucas and Dennis entered the house, Elodie was tidying up the living room.
Elodie had been packing since early morning, preparing for their move back to Luminous City.
The family had agreed that Dylan would return to Luminous City, and Clara and Desmond's wedding would also take place there, making the move urgent.
Elodie was particularly eager to return to Luminous City. They needed to go back.
She had been looking forward to it since she woke up.
She hummed a tune as she packed.
Hearing the commotion at the door, Elodie looked up and saw Lucas and Dennis. "Lucas, you're back?"
Elodie quickly put down what she was holding and walked over to Lucas.
She looked him over, relieved to see he seemed okay.
"Yeah, I finished up and came back," Lucas responded calmly, letting her inspect him.
Elodie then turned to Dennis. "Dennis, you're here too."
Seeing Dennis reminded Elodie of Nathan and Clara's hospital visit for the compatibility test, making her expression sour.
But since Dennis was helping, she forced a smile.
Dennis didn't mind Elodie's awkward attitude and smiled politely. "Hi, Mrs. Manners. I was just giving Lucas a ride."
Elodie felt better hearing it was just a ride and quickly replied, "A ride? Are you busy with something else? I won't keep you..."
"No rush, I'm heading to Luminous City. I heard you were going there too, so I thought I'd stop by," Dennis said, making it clear he was also going to Luminous City.
Elodie was momentarily stunned. "Oh, I see."
"He might be traveling with us," Lucas said, knowing Dennis's plans.
Dennis raised an eyebrow at Lucas but kept his smile.
Elodie awkwardly smiled, "Traveling together sounds good. We can look out for each other."
Seeing Elodie had no objections, Lucas calmly asked, "Mom, is Dylan home?"
Lucas hadn't seen Dylan since he was released and didn't know his condition.
They needed to return to Luminous City quickly, especially with the tight wedding schedule between the Boleyn and Manners families.
"Everyone's home," Elodie replied quickly. "You two sit down, I'll call them."
Just then, Nathan's door opened, and he wheeled himself out, looking pale.
"Lucas, you're back," Nathan said, moving closer to Elodie.
Elodie, worried, adjusted the blanket on Nathan's lap. "Why are you up so early? Couldn't you sleep a bit more?"
Nathan looked ready, not like he had just woken up.
"Mom, I'm fine," Nathan said softly, though his eyes showed mixed emotions.
He had just received the doctor's message: he and Clara were not a match.
The news was a blow, but what hurt more was his previous distrust of Dylan and Elodie.
Reflecting on his doubts about his family, he felt miserable.
"Are you okay? You look terrible," Elodie said, touching Nathan's cold face.
Dennis watched the interaction and guided Lucas to the couch.
Lucas, injured, needed to sit.
He didn't resist and sat down.
Noticing their actions, Elodie remembered Dennis was there and moved Nathan closer to Lucas.
"Nathan's health isn't great. I'm not sure if he can handle the trip to Luminous City today," Elodie sighed, looking at Lucas.
Lucas turned to Nathan, "Can you manage?"
Nathan was stunned, realizing Lucas planned to leave for Luminous City today.
He had been planning for a kidney transplant with Clara if they were a match.
"I can," Nathan said.
Seeing Nathan's pale face, Lucas said, "You can rest in your room before we leave."
Nathan didn't need to be part of the discussion about moving to Luminous City.
Nathan thought for a moment but shook his head.
His mind was a mess, and he couldn't sleep even if he went back to his room.
Plus, Clara had just left, and he didn't know how to tell Lucas.
He hadn't asked Clara where she was going, only that she had urgent business.
Elodie sighed, seeing Nathan's distress.
"Mom, can you check if Clara is awake?" Lucas asked suddenly.
Elodie remembered she needed to call everyone and quickly said, "Sure, I'll check on Clara."
Mentioning Clara, Elodie glanced at Nathan again.
Nathan, who wanted to donate his kidney to Clara, didn't realize how weak he might become without it.
As a mother, she couldn't accept her son risking his life.
She couldn't stand anyone coveting her son's life.
Now, Clara, whom she had always loved, seemed to be that person.
Clara wanted Nathan's kidney.
