Chapter 365 The Scene Was in an Uproar
Ethan had no intention of wasting any more time with Clara.
He glanced at the notice briefly and said, "Let's not talk about this. I have some questions for you."
Clara felt a wave of anxiety wash over her.
She even considered calling Johnson. "Can I use the restroom first?"
She had a nagging feeling that Ethan was starting to suspect her, but she couldn't figure out what had given her away.
Everything had seemed normal with Ethan until today. What could have changed overnight?
Could Brynn and Katniss have said something to him?
And did Ethan believe them?
Thinking about Brynn and Katniss made Clara furious.
"Sure, I'll wait," Ethan said, not stopping her from going to the restroom. He sat back in his chair, waiting.
Clara took the opportunity to call Johnson, but the line was busy and she couldn't get through.
She was frantic and didn't know what to do.
After hesitating for a long time, Clara finally came out.
Ethan, who was already growing impatient, decided to cut to the chase. "Tell me everything that happened at the party from start to finish."
Clara hesitated, her lips trembling as she tried to come up with a story.
"You only have one chance," Ethan said coldly, his gaze sweeping over her.
Clara panicked. Even though she was terrified, she couldn't tell the truth.
She started crying and made up a vague story.
"Ethan, I don't know much, but everything I said is true."
Ethan's expression darkened as he listened to Clara.
"Forget it. You don't value this opportunity," Ethan said, dialing a number.
Clara didn't understand what Ethan was doing and stared at him blankly until she heard him say, "Come in."
Suddenly, several police officers burst into the room.
Clara was terrified and stood up in shock. "Ethan? What's going on?"
Ethan didn't answer.
The uniformed officers moved forward and restrained Clara.
Ethan had held out hope that Clara would confess and repent, but after talking for so long, Clara showed no sign of admitting her mistakes.
Ethan saw no reason to hold back anymore.
Clara struggled and shouted, "Why are you arresting me? Let go of me!"
"Your scheme has been exposed. Stop pretending and cooperate," one of the officers responded coldly.
Clara was in a panic and looked to Ethan for help, calling his name, "Ethan!"
"Don't call me," Ethan said coldly.
He turned to the officers restraining Clara and said, "Follow proper procedures."
The officers nodded quickly. "Yes, Mr. Anderson!"
Ethan walked out first, and the officers hurriedly escorted Clara out.
"Ethan, I know I was wrong. Please talk to the police for me? I won't do it again!" Clara cried loudly, her voice filled with terror and desperation.
Ethan didn't look back. He walked out the door and got into his car, still able to hear Clara's cries faintly.
It wasn't until the police took Clara away that Ethan stepped on the gas and drove off.
Clara was taken to the police station, where she was questioned.
She insisted she knew nothing, and after a few questions, the police decided to detain her temporarily.
When Clara learned she was going to be detained, she shouted, "I didn't do anything! Why are you detaining me?"
She usually appeared gentle and weak, but her shouting was loud enough to make the officers glance at her.
"Your accomplice confessed, and we have evidence of your crimes."
Clara panicked. "What are you talking about? I don't have an accomplice! I didn't commit any crimes!"
Her first thought was of Johnson.
Ethan had mentioned Johnson, and she hadn't been able to reach him earlier.
That could only mean Johnson had been caught, too.
But what had Johnson confessed?
Clara had been the mastermind, but Johnson had always been the one to carry out the actions.
Could the police be bluffing?
The officer escorting her looked at her in exasperation. "Stop shouting."
Clara calmed down a bit and asked in a softer tone, "Can I see the person you say is my accomplice? Or can I contact my family? Even if you say you have evidence, I should have a chance to prove my innocence!"
Her biggest fear was that the police would side with the Anderson family and make a quick judgment against her.
As long as she could fight back, she wouldn't let things get that bad.
"Mr. Anderson said to follow the rules. Let her see the person and contact her family," Colin said as he passed by, remembering Ethan's instructions.
They all knew that anyone who crossed Ethan wouldn't have an easy time, but they would follow proper procedures.
Clara breathed a sigh of relief.
She remembered Ethan's words before he left.
He had said to follow the procedures, which meant what?
It could only mean he still cared about her.
"Alright." The officer didn't care about Clara's thoughts and led her to where Johnson was being held.
Soon, Clara saw Johnson.
"Johnson? Why are you here?" Although she had suspected it, Clara's acting skills were top-notch.
Seeing Johnson look at her, she quickly put on a shocked expression.
Johnson wasn't surprised to see Clara.
He had quickly learned the reason for his arrest and had shifted all the blame onto Clara.
If Clara hadn't been caught, he would have been surprised.
"Clara, you're here. It's not that I don't want to help you, but I couldn't keep it a secret anymore! All the bad things you did have been discovered! I can't help you now!"
In front of the police, Johnson's performance was flawless.
Clara was stunned. "Johnson, what are you talking about?"
She panicked and quickly told the police, "He's lying! I didn't do anything. He's framing me!"
If Clara couldn't see the situation now, she would be truly foolish.
"Sir, don't listen to her. She's the one who did it! Everything I confessed is true! My entire life is in Starhaven; how could I dare to cross Mr. Anderson?" Johnson pointed at Clara, accusing her, then sighed tearfully.
Clara's eyes widened, her face turning red with anger.
She pointed at Johnson and said, "Johnson! Don't try to shift the blame! You did all those dirty things!"
Johnson continued to shout, and the two of them yelled at each other through the bars of the holding cell, creating a chaotic scene.
"Shut up!"
