Chapter 466 Just Like to Stare at Him
Hearing Emma's question, Katniss turned to look at the bodyguard and Lucas.
The bodyguard noticed Katniss's gaze and said, "Time's up, let him go."
Katniss remembered she had told them to hold Lucas for two minutes.
Since the bodyguard was bringing Lucas out now, it must have been two minutes.
"Let him go and let him walk out on his own."
The bodyguard obeyed and immediately released Lucas.
Lucas was finally free, but stood still, not moving.
He looked at Katniss with a mix of shock and confusion, not understanding why she dared to have someone lay hands on him.
The Katniss he knew before wouldn't have done this.
Katniss, not wanting to look at Lucas any longer, said, "Don't let the door hit you on the way out."
Lucas didn't know what to do, his eyes darkening with anger.
But he knew staying any longer wouldn't change anything, so he left.
Once Lucas was in the elevator, Katniss turned to Emma, "I'm heading home. You coming with me, Ms. Kate?"
Emma looked at Katniss, ignoring her question, and asked, "Did you hit your brother?"
Katniss calmly denied it, "He's not my brother, and I didn't hit him."
Emma replied, "If you hit him, just admit it. Why deny it?"
Katniss noticed the excitement on Emma's face and couldn't figure out her intentions.
Unable to understand, she decided to give up and walk towards the elevator.
"Ms. Kate, let's go."
Emma shook her head, "You go ahead. I'll stay here. I'll see Maximilian eventually."
Katniss was getting annoyed.
Anyone would feel uncomfortable if someone were constantly eyeing their husband.
"Ms. Kate, it's not a good idea to keep staring at someone else's husband. You can find someone else."
She realized that although Emma didn't listen much and wasn't very reasonable, she was at least more straightforward than the Manners family.
Emma had feelings for Maximilian and made it clear, unlike Clara from the Manners family, who used underhanded tactics that were hard to guard against and very annoying.
"I like staring at him, whether he's someone else's husband or not. What can you do about it?" Emma said arrogantly, looking at Katniss.
She was sure Katniss wouldn't treat her the same way she treated Lucas, so she remained brazen.
"She won't do anything to you because you're not worth it."
A deep voice from behind broke the standoff between the two women.
Emma turned around to see the tall, handsome figure of Maximilian.
Maximilian was looking at Katniss, their eyes meeting from a distance.
Katniss looked up and met Maximilian's gaze, almost drowning in the tenderness she saw in his eyes.
"Maximilian."
Katniss deliberately called out his name, wanting to show Emma how close they were.
She couldn't help but smile, her eyes full of joy.
Maximilian walked over, completely ignoring Emma, and went straight to Katniss.
In a few steps, he was by her side. "Let's go home."
Emma followed him, angrily asking, "Maximilian, I came all this way to see you, and you won't even look at me?"
Maximilian didn't look at her at all.
Apart from the first sentence, which was a sarcastic response, he didn't acknowledge her.
He held Katniss and walked to the elevator.
When the doors opened, he led Katniss inside.
The bodyguard and Conrad followed, but Emma was blocked outside.
"Let me in!" Emma was furious at being ignored and took it out on Conrad and the bodyguard.
Katniss softly said, "Ms. Kate, the elevator is full. You can take the next one."
Emma angrily retorted, "Four people can't fill an elevator! Maximilian, is this how you treat guests?"
Katniss smiled innocently, "Isn't it full? I think it is. Right, Maximilian?"
Maximilian smiled indulgently at her, "Yes, it's full."
Emma tried to stop the elevator, but another bodyguard grabbed her arm from behind, and the doors closed smoothly.
Before the doors closed, Katniss kept her eyes on Emma's angry face, feeling delighted that Maximilian had played along with her little lie.
"Are you hurt?" Maximilian's gentle, concerned voice sounded in her ear.
Katniss shook her head, "No, I'm not hurt."
With Conrad around and facing ordinary people like Lucas and Emma, how could she be hurt?
Maximilian smiled, "That's good."
The atmosphere in the elevator was harmonious and intimate, while Emma, going upstairs, was so angry she tried several times to shake off the bodyguard's hand but couldn't.
Once the elevator went down, her arm was finally released, and she raised her hand to slap the bodyguard.
The bodyguard blocked it, and Emma cursed, "How dare you stop me? Just you wait!"
Chris appeared at the right moment, looking displeased. "Ms. Kate, are you causing trouble on our turf?"
Emma coldly replied, "I came to see Maximilian, and your people stopped me! Who's causing trouble? It's him!"
Chris innocently said, "That's not my person. That's Maximilian's."
The bodyguard said expressionlessly, "Ms. Kate, I apologize for offending you, but it was indeed Mr. Hamilton's order to stop you."
Emma's face darkened, but before she could say more, Chris said to the bodyguard, "Maximilian and his wife have left. Shouldn't you go protect them?"
The bodyguard nodded at Chris and went to wait for the elevator, completely ignoring Emma.
Emma, feeling thoroughly disregarded, was about to explode when Chris said, "Ms. Kate, are you looking for someone to chat with? How about I chat with you?"
He said this to deliberately misinterpret Emma's intentions and hoped she would get angry and leave.
But unexpectedly, Emma looked at him and said, "Sure, let's chat."
Chris's smile froze, and Emma felt immensely satisfied seeing his reaction.
Seeing Chris standing still, she said, "Lead the way to your office."
Since she couldn't catch up with Maximilian now, she decided to make Chris suffer a bit.
Unfortunately, she didn't have anyone with her now, or she would have had Chris beaten up a bit.
Chris, under her sinister gaze, said, "The office is too messy. Let's chat in the guest room."
He had no intention of taking Emma to his office and just wanted to say a few words to send her away.
Emma agreed and walked towards the guest room where she had been before.
Chris followed reluctantly, thinking he might as well use the opportunity to gather some information about the Kate family. It wasn't all bad.
Emma, on a whim, agreed to chat with Chris, hoping to learn more about Maximilian from him.
Thus, their conversation was quite discordant.
After a few sentences, Chris said, "Ms. Kate, I'm a bit busy today. How about we chat another day?"
