Chapter 460 She Can Only Follow
"Emma, don't get all worked up," someone quickly tried to calm her down, seeing her anger.
Emma scoffed, "What a moron."
The person gave a sheepish smile, "Well, you already kicked the moron out of the car. Now we need to..."
"Do you need to ask? Follow them."
After booting the idiot out, Emma told the driver to tail Maximilian's car.
She had wanted to get out and say hi to Maximilian, but the fool next to her kept pushing her to go down and meet him, completely missing the fact that Maximilian was cozying up with Katniss.
Emma saw it and had no desire to get a closer look!
She was afraid that if she went down, she wouldn't be able to stop herself from doing something to Katniss.
So far, the only thing she had done to Katniss was make sure she couldn't pass her test and move on to the next round.
She hadn't planned anything that would put Katniss's life in danger.
After all, from the start, what she wanted was Maximilian's heart and soul.
If hurting Katniss made Maximilian hate her, it wouldn't be worth it.
In the end, Emma didn't see Katniss as a real threat.
Her arrogance made her dismiss Katniss.
Emma's car kept following Maximilian's, and the driver of the other car quickly noticed.
"Mr. Hamilton, someone's tailing us. Two cars."
Maximilian responded casually, "Head to the office."
They were supposed to go straight home, but now they needed to change their route.
Not knowing the intentions of those following them, he didn't plan to lead them to his home.
As soon as he spoke, the driver quickly changed course towards the office.
The people in Emma's car noticed the change in direction and immediately informed her.
"Emma, they seem to have noticed us and suddenly changed their route."
She asked casually, "Where does this road lead?"
The person beside her quickly replied, "It's the road to Mr. Hamilton's office."
"Keep following." Going to the office was perfect; it increased her chances of seeing Maximilian.
Seeing that Emma wasn't angry, the person breathed a sigh of relief, but then the driver suddenly said, "Emma, there's another car following us."
"What?" Emma's interest was piqued. "Who dares to follow my car?"
The driver thought for a moment before saying, "It might be someone following Maximilian."
Emma opened the window and glanced back, saying, "Interesting."
Indeed, there was another car following them, and inside was none other than Lucas.
Lucas's car, like Emma's, had been following Maximilian's car from the entrance of Starhaven Medical University.
Since he was always at the back, he was aware that there were four cars in total.
He had mistakenly thought that Emma's car was also part of Maximilian's entourage.
He assumed it was part of Maximilian's security detail.
Because of this assumption, Lucas had been extra cautious while following them.
It was only now that he was discovered.
Before coming to Starhaven Medical University, Lucas had visited Dylan.
Despite Katniss's hints, Lucas hadn't gotten any useful information from Dylan.
He had tried asking the police, but they told him the situation was too severe for bail.
It was clear someone had pressured the police, preventing Dylan's release.
He hadn't figured out who was behind it.
So, he contacted Katniss again, but she didn't answer his calls or respond to his messages.
He decided to go to Starhaven Medical University to find her.
He waited outside, planning to get out of the car when he saw Katniss, but then he saw Maximilian and hesitated. The two drove off.
Now, Lucas was following them while trying to call Katniss.
In the front car, Katniss saw Lucas's call on her silenced phone again, feeling exasperated and furrowing her brows.
"What's wrong?" Maximilian noticed her mood but didn't look at her phone.
"Lucas is calling again, like a spam call," Katniss explained Lucas's persistent attempts to reach her.
Maximilian glanced at her phone, seeing Lucas's name, and smiled, "If you don't want to answer, just block him."
Katniss was tempted to block Lucas but decided against it.
"Not for now." She thought it might be useful to keep his number for entertainment when bored.
But sitting next to Maximilian, she wasn't bored at all.
So, she had no intention of answering the call.
Maximilian watched as Katniss put her phone back in her bag and smiled, pulling her closer.
"Then keep it. If he bothers you, I'll bother him."
This sounded more like something a lovesick person would say rather than Maximilian.
"Okay," Katniss responded seriously.
Maximilian laughed softly and leaned even closer.
Katniss felt a tickle on her neck, turned slightly, and met Maximilian's gentle gaze.
Maximilian was handsome, with a high nose and deep-set eyes.
He looked stern and cold when not smiling, but his smile was warm and tender.
This tenderness was reserved for Katniss.
Maybe it was because she was so close to him, but Katniss felt dazzled by Maximilian's presence.
Maximilian kissed the corner of her lips, incredibly gently.
Katniss snuggled into his arms, her cheeks burning, wanting to kiss him back.
But just as the atmosphere between them grew more intimate and Katniss was about to kiss Maximilian, Conrad suddenly spoke from the front, "The people following us seem to be Emma's."
The intimate atmosphere in the car dissipated, and Katniss felt embarrassed, her ears and face burning.
If Conrad hadn't spoken, she might have forgotten there were others in the car.
Feeling shy, she burrowed into Maximilian's arms.
Maximilian held her tightly, his actions gentle but his tone serious as he asked Conrad, "How do you know?"
He suspected Conrad had spoken deliberately, given the timing.
Conrad, realizing his poor timing, felt awkward but quickly answered:
"I saw Emma's people when the car turned."
Conrad responded honestly and then sat quietly, looking straight ahead.
Maximilian acknowledged, "If she wants to follow, let her."
But she could only follow.
