Chapter 366 Want to Shirk Responsibility, Impossible

The cop's shout made Johnson and Clara shut up instantly.

Clara's eyes were red from arguing, and she turned to the officer, saying, "I'll tell you everything!"

She had planned to discuss with Johnson how to handle the interrogation, but she didn't expect Johnson to be such a coward and rat her out first.

The worst part was that he tried to pin all the blame on her. No way!

Clara was never one to be easily bullied.

She was always the one shifting responsibility onto others, so how could she tolerate this injustice?

She was going to make Johnson regret it.

In a fit of anger, Clara wanted to tear down Johnson's facade completely.

"Ready to talk?" The officer looked at Clara for confirmation.

She had been stubbornly refusing to say anything useful, but now, provoked, she was willing to spill the beans.

It seemed following protocol wasn't a bad idea after all; it could speed up the investigation.

Clara nodded vigorously and, without waiting for the officer's invitation, turned and walked back to the interrogation room she had come from.

Johnson visibly panicked and shouted after her, "Clara, don't say anything crazy! I can help you once I'm out!"

But Clara ignored him completely.

Once inside the interrogation room, she not only confessed to the scheme against Katniss and Ethan but also revealed that Scarlett's car accident was orchestrated by Johnson.

She hadn't been involved in the car accident at all; she had merely mentioned it to Johnson over the phone.

The accident was entirely Johnson's doing.

So, she had no qualms about revealing it.

Scarlett, who was in the hospital, soon received a request from the police to cooperate with the investigation.

When she learned that her car accident was orchestrated by Johnson, she immediately informed her family.

The Lewis family might not be as influential as the Anderson family, but they were far more prominent than the Thompson family.

Scarlett's parents were furious upon hearing that Scarlett had been targeted in a car accident.

They immediately sent people to the police to get details and began to pressure Johnson's company without hesitation.

Suddenly, Starhaven was on the brink of a storm.

The Thompson family quickly sent money to visit Johnson, who was temporarily detained, and explained how the Lewis family was targeting them.

Johnson, who had always looked youthful despite his age, now appeared much older due to the stress of the situation and his temporary detention.

As soon as Clara finished her confession, the police contacted her family, specifically Dylan.

Dylan was incredibly busy when he received the call and even thought he was hallucinating from exhaustion.

Clara, who was always so well-behaved, how could she possibly be arrested?

"You must be mistaken. Clara couldn't have done anything wrong! You must have dialed the wrong number," Dylan said, hanging up the phone.

He put his phone in his pocket and, without a moment to think, was called away by a colleague.

His phone vibrated and rang again, but Dylan, overwhelmed with work, hung up the call without checking.

"Another hang-up," the officer said to Clara. "Do you have any other family members' numbers?"

Clara had been taken away so quickly that she didn't have her phone with her.

Remembering Dylan's number was already impressive, but hearing that Dylan had hung up several times made her anxious and frustrated.

Despite her frustration, Clara pitifully asked, "I remember my other brother's number. Can you lend me a phone to call him myself?"

She remembered Lucas's number but feared he might also hang up if he heard the police.

She wanted to explain personally.

Although Lucas wasn't in Starhaven, she knew he would get Dylan to help her once he knew what was happening.

"One minute," the officer said, handing her the phone and standing nearby.

Clara quickly dialed Lucas's number, took a deep breath to calm herself, and waited for Lucas to answer.

Fortunately, Lucas didn't keep her waiting long and answered the call.

Hearing Lucas's familiar voice, Clara almost burst into tears. "Lucas, it's me, Clara."

Lucas asked, puzzled, "Did you change your number?"

Clara's voice choked up. "Lucas, I was tricked by Johnson and made a mistake. Now I'm at the police station. Can you contact Dylan for me?"

As soon as Lucas heard Clara was at the police station, he became extremely worried. "Why are you at the police station? Clara, are you hurt?"

He deliberately ignored Clara's mention of her mistake.

In his eyes, Clara was so well-behaved, she couldn't possibly do anything wrong.

Hearing Lucas's concern, Clara, on the verge of tears, looked at the officer's impatient expression and quickly said, "Lucas, I don't have time to explain. Can you please contact Dylan for me?"

Before she could hear Lucas's response, the officer, growing impatient, took the phone away.

The officer put the phone to his ear and heard Lucas's anxious voice. Frowning, he said, "Alright, if you want to see her, come quickly."

Clara's situation allowed for bail, but it depended on how much they were willing to pay.

Lucas quickly notified Dylan, who regretted hanging up the previous calls when he realized they were indeed from the police.

He rushed to the police station but was delayed by work. Suddenly, he thought of Desmond and called him during a work break.

He expected Desmond, who cared deeply for Clara, to rush over immediately.

But to his surprise, Desmond was also tied up.

Moreover, upon learning that Clara needed help, Desmond, lacking money and influence, had to follow Gabriel's advice to find a solution before seeing Clara.

As a result, Clara waited at the police station all afternoon without anyone coming to see her.

She repeatedly asked the officers, but they only gave negative responses.

When she tried to contact them, the officers refused to lend her a phone again.

Clara became more helpless and angrier.

By evening, she woke up from a drowsy state, feeling incredibly gloomy.

When Katniss learned that Clara had been taken to the police station, she was indifferent.

After hanging up Ethan's call, Maximilian approached her. "Is everything sorted?"

The initial evidence had been uncovered by Patrick at Maximilian's request.

Although Maximilian hadn't been involved in the follow-up, he knew the general situation.

After discussing Ethan's handling of the matter, Katniss had come to inform him, so Maximilian's question was more of a confirmation.

"Yes, Clara is being investigated," Katniss said lightly. "How long she'll be detained depends on the police."

Katniss knew Ethan wouldn't abuse his position, so she guessed Clara's punishment wouldn't be too severe.

"Alright, shall we celebrate?" Maximilian asked, wrapping his long arm around Katniss's waist.

Katniss couldn't help but blush, but Clara's arrest was indeed good news for them, deserving of a celebration.

"Sure," Katniss agreed happily.
