Chapter 347 There Will Always Be Opportunities
"Yeah, I know her," Katniss finally replied after a pause.
Ethan, hearing that Katniss knew Clara, said, "No way! You both have the last name Manners, and you know each other?"
Katniss wasn't sure if Ethan genuinely didn't know about the Manners family from Luminous City or if he was just pretending.
She looked at him, puzzled, ready to change the subject to avoid talking about Clara, but then she remembered that Ethan and Clara had met before.
"Remember when we were discussing our project at the coffee shop and those two people barged in? Clara was there."
Ethan was stunned. "She was there? Where?"
"She was the girl next to the guy who was causing the scene," Katniss said with a sigh, feeling exasperated.
Ethan, who had come to Katniss to ask about Clara, clearly had seen or met her before.
But now, hearing that Clara had been at the coffee shop, he seemed completely out of the loop. It was odd.
Ethan thought back carefully.
There had indeed been a girl next to Desmond, but he hadn't paid much attention to her.
"Are you sure it was Clara?" he asked.
Katniss nodded. "It was her."
Ethan fell into deep thought. So Clara had seen him?
He frowned, feeling that something didn't add up. "Could it be someone with the same name?" he asked, unwilling to let it go.
Katniss replied, "I only know one Clara. Do you know another Clara, Ethan?"
She felt that something was off with Ethan. His expression suggested he was troubled by something.
"Nothing, thanks, Katniss. Let's focus on our project for now. We can talk later," Ethan said, pushing down the questions swirling in his mind.
He wondered if Clara, like him, hadn't recognized him either.
Katniss didn't press further. She just glanced at Ethan and then buried her head in her work.
Meanwhile, Clara was in a foul mood.
She had skipped her morning class because Johnson had told her last night that they hadn't managed to get a photo of Katniss。
She had already questioned Johnson over the phone last night.
Now, facing him, she was angry but kept her words to a minimum, her face dark with displeasure.
"It was Johnson's fault, but Maximilian reacted too quickly. I had just gotten off the elevator when they found her, like they had surveillance on us!" Johnson recalled the incident with frustration and regret.
He regretted not acting sooner. He shouldn't have taken her to the hotel room; he should have taken the photos in a nearby restroom.
The plan had failed, and the two small bottles of drugs he had prepared hadn't even reached Katniss! It was infuriating.
"How could you fail when she was already unconscious? It's unacceptable," Clara said, her face grim.
She remembered how happy she had been last night, only to realize it was all for nothing.
Seeing Clara's displeasure, Johnson quickly said, "But it's okay.
You've got Mr. Anderson on your side now. Even without the photos, you can still make her suffer."
Clara gave him a look. "But Johnson, even if I'm with Ethan, he won't do anything directly to Clara. Katniss has caused our family so much trouble. My father said she must pay."
She hadn't come to Starhaven just to help Johnson connect with the influential families.
She was here to make Katniss pay.
"There will be other opportunities," Johnson assured her. "Don't worry, I'll come up with something."
His attitude towards Clara had changed significantly, especially after learning about her engagement to Ethan. He was now much more accommodating.
Though she didn't fully trust Johnson, Clara nodded.
"Is that the only reason you made me skip class today, Johnson?" she asked.
She had just transferred, and Johnson had her skip class. She doubted it was for her benefit.
But Johnson said, "Of course not. It's also about your transfer."
"Is there a problem?" Clara asked, feeling uneasy. "Isn't this school good enough?"
She had initially disliked the school Johnson had arranged for her, but considering she was new to Starhaven and her family had little influence here, she had settled for it.
The school wasn't great, but it was close to where Ethan was training. It was convenient for bothering Katniss and getting closer to Ethan.
Johnson shook his head, looking serious. "No, it's not that. I think you deserve better. I'm working on transferring you to Starhaven Medical University."
Clara was shocked. "Starhaven Medical University?"
Johnson looked pleased with himself. "Yes, of course."
"Really?" She couldn't believe Johnson would go to such lengths for her. She asked again to be sure.
After Johnson confirmed it, he said, "Mr. Anderson's training is also at Starhaven Medical University. Transferring you there will make it easier for you to connect with him. More interaction is always good."
Hearing this, Clara calmed down.
Businessmen never act without profit, and Johnson was a typical businessman. He had the means to get her into Starhaven Medical University before, but he hadn't.
Now that she was engaged to Ethan, Johnson was making the effort, showing how tempting the Anderson family connection was.
Clara felt a mix of sarcasm and gratitude. "Thank you, Johnson."
Johnson, pleased, patted her shoulder. "Your father also called me, asking to get you into a better school. Nathan was worried about you."
Seeing Clara's reaction, Johnson continued, "I'm doing this for your family's sake. It was a bit of trouble, but you just need to wait for the news."
Clara was stunned to hear Nathan had a hand in this.
When she left the hospital, she had casually mentioned envying Katniss's training at Starhaven Medical University. She hadn't expected Nathan to take it seriously and talk to Oliver.
And Oliver must have informed Johnson immediately. Otherwise, Johnson wouldn't have acted so quickly, even to get her closer to Ethan.
Her initial excitement cooled. She asked Johnson, "Should I stop going to my current school while I wait?"
She asked hesitantly, looking like a diligent student who didn't want to miss her studies.
Johnson replied casually, "You don't have to go. Enjoy these days and get to know the Anderson family better."
