Chapter 350 Isn't It Just a Coincidence
As soon as Clara walked into the room, she spotted Katniss off to the side and wondered if Katniss had said something to Ethan, making him act so cold outside the villa.
But now that Ethan had publicly announced their engagement, her suspicions disappeared instantly.
She knew that Katniss wouldn't dare say anything reckless.
Clara glanced at Katniss out of the corner of her eye, seeing her whispering to the girl next to her, and felt a surge of triumph.
"Thanks, everyone. Don't worry about me; I'm not much of a drinker." Clara said, looking at Ethan. "Ethan, I'd like to sit down for a bit."
Ethan replied, "Sure, I'll take you to the couch and introduce you to my friends."
Clara followed him closely, pretending to look around casually, then exclaimed in surprise, "Katniss? You're here too? What a coincidence!"
Her surprise was so convincing that Katniss, upon hearing it, thought Clara deserved an award for Best Actress.
"Not a coincidence," Katniss said, standing up with a cold expression. "I'm leaving."
Although she didn't know how Clara suddenly became Ethan's fiancée, she couldn't stand being in the same space as Clara.
She had no interest in subjecting herself to Clara's toxic presence and preferred to stay far away.
"What?" Clara asked, feigning hurt. "Katniss, what's wrong?"
Before she could finish, Tyler approached. "Katniss, do you have an emergency? Why are you leaving so suddenly?"
He was curious about how Katniss and Clara knew each other, but more importantly, he wanted to keep Katniss from leaving.
Katniss replied, "Yeah, Maximilian's off work."
Though Maximilian was coming to pick her up, she couldn't stand being around Clara any longer.
"I'll take you," Ethan offered.
Tyler was about to say something when Clara's weak voice interrupted, "Katniss, if you're leaving because of me, then I'll go."
She took a few small steps toward the door, looking pitiful.
Of course, she hadn't taken more than two steps before Tyler stopped her.
"Don't go. Is there some misunderstanding between you two?" He was straightforward and didn't hesitate to ask, looking between Katniss and Clara.
Clara turned around and whispered, "Katniss might have misunderstood, but I..."
Katniss cut her off, "No misunderstanding. Fine, I'll stay and wait for Maximilian."
Seeing Clara's act gave her a headache, but she didn't want to make things difficult for Tyler.
If she left now, it would embarrass Tyler and Ethan.
Tyler didn't matter much to her, but Ethan was her friend and Brent's favored student.
She had to give him some face.
Clara bit her lip, regretting her words when she heard Katniss was staying.
She didn't want Katniss, a ticking time bomb, around Ethan.
Moreover, the woman next to Katniss kept glaring at her with anger.
"Good, no one's leaving. We're all friends," Tyler said, trying to smooth things over.
Then he added, "Katniss, this is Clara. She has the same last name as you. What a coincidence."
Katniss thought, What a coincidence indeed.
Scarlett stared at Clara, confused about how Ethan suddenly had a fiancée.
She had been thinking of asking Katniss for help, but now Katniss knew Ethan's fiancée.
Her eyes reddened, thinking Katniss had kept this from her to mock her.
Katniss didn't notice Scarlett's thoughts and didn't care that she had moved away.
Clara suddenly said, "Katniss, I didn't expect you all to know each other. By the way, Ethan, Katniss is my sister."
Everyone's eyes turned to Clara.
Scarlett looked at them in disbelief and asked Katniss, "Katniss? You knew all along?"
She was angry and hurt, feeling betrayed by Katniss.
Katniss looked at her, exasperated. "I just found out."
She hadn't been paying attention to Ethan or Clara, so how could she know they were together?
Besides, she and Clara weren't close; Clara just liked to use their relationship to annoy her.
"You just found out? She's your sister? You just found out?" Scarlett said, then ran out.
Tyler didn't understand but saw Scarlett's distress and quickly followed her.
Katniss thought Scarlett had misunderstood and wanted to explain, but Clara grabbed her.
"Katniss, don't go. I have something to tell you from Dad." Clara mentioned Oliver as she held Katniss back.
Katniss didn't care who had something to say to her.
She shook off Clara's hand and asked, "Didn't you move out of the Manners Villa? Why are you calling him Dad?"
She had heard from Nathan that Clara had been secretly taken back by the Manners family.
She hadn't had a chance to confront them, and now Clara had come to her.
Katniss usually didn't bother with the Manners family's antics, but Clara's constant provocations made her unwilling to tolerate it.
"Dad raised me for so many years. How could I not call him Dad?" Clara said, wiping away real tears.
Ethan, seeing her cry, quickly said, "Katniss, wait. I'll take her to calm down."
Katniss looked at them, puzzled, but didn't leave immediately.
She called Scarlett, who answered with a tearful accusation.
"Why are you calling me? To apologize?" Scarlett asked, crying.
Katniss rubbed her forehead. "I'll help you win Ethan back. Just come back."
She didn't see any signs of a real engagement between Clara and Ethan. They seemed unfamiliar with each other.
She could sense the awkwardness between Ethan and Clara and didn't understand why he announced their engagement.
Clara seemed clingy with Ethan, but Katniss remembered Clara being cozy with Desmond just days ago.
She couldn't let Ethan fall into Clara's trap.
And since Clara had come to her, she should have expected the consequences.
"But he has a fiancée." Scarlett sobbed.
Ethan had taken Clara upstairs and asked, "Is Katniss your sister?"
Katniss hadn't mentioned Clara being her sister when she talked about her, so Ethan was doubtful.
