Chapter 467 Persuade Him to Turn Back

After hearing what Chris said, Emma felt like she had wasted her time, too.

Rolling her eyes, she said, "I'm busy another day, no need to chat."

Without waiting for Chris's reaction, she turned and walked away.

Chris watched Emma leave, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips.

Meanwhile, Katniss and Maximilian headed to the basement level and got into a car waiting in the underground garage.

Lucas, on the other hand, was stopped by Emma's people on the first floor.

He was already feeling frustrated, and his face showed it.

Emma's bodyguard noticed Lucas had come down, but Emma hadn't, so he approached to ask why.

Lucas didn't dare not to answer, explaining, "Ms. Kate is discussing something with Maximilian."

At least before he came down, Emma was indeed talking with Maximilian.

After explaining, Lucas tried to leave but was stopped again by Emma's people.

Lucas's face immediately stiffened.

"You can leave once Ms. Kate comes down," the person blocking him explained.

Lucas held back his temper, feeling extremely annoyed, but he didn't dare to lose his cool. He sat down next to them, sulking.

Although he couldn't leave, he wasn't restricted from using his phone.

While waiting for Emma to come down, he noticed missed calls and messages from Dennis.

He had put his phone on silent to avoid interruptions during his negotiation with Katniss, which is why he hadn't noticed them earlier.

Seeing the messages, Lucas's expression changed.

He immediately called Dennis back.

Even though Dennis's texts had explained the situation, there were still details Lucas needed to confirm.

Dennis picked up quickly.

"Is what you sent me true?" Lucas couldn't help but ask as soon as the call connected.

Even though he already believed most of it, he hoped Dennis was just joking.

"It's true."

Dennis's quick response extinguished Lucas's last bit of hope.

Lucas felt a headache coming on.

What he was confirming was Nathan's plan to donate a kidney to Clara.

He had previously asked Dennis to keep an eye on Nathan and report his movements.

He did this to prevent Nathan from secretly planning to donate a kidney to Clara.

He hadn't expected Nathan to act so quickly.

Nathan had just been discharged from the hospital and was already contacting a private hospital.

And he was indeed doing it behind Elodie and Lucas's backs.

Dennis, not hearing a response from Lucas for a while, took the initiative to ask, "What are you going to do?"

Lucas felt both a headache and irritation, especially after the stress he had faced with Katniss today, leaving his mind in chaos.

He didn't know what to do, so he asked, "Does Clara know?"

He thought, Nathan is a patient and shouldn't be emotionally agitated, so he could approach this from another angle.

As long as Clara didn't cooperate with Nathan, the kidney donation wouldn't happen.

"I'm not sure, but Nathan has an appointment to meet with someone tomorrow," Dennis said, thinking Lucas should stay calm and wait until tomorrow.

Hearing that Nathan had an appointment tomorrow, Lucas felt a bit relieved. At least it wasn't happening right now, so he still had a chance to intervene and persuade Nathan to reconsider.

"Dennis, can you help me out tomorrow?" Lucas asked, feeling vulnerable after the day's events.

Dennis, figuring he might as well see it through, agreed easily, "Sure, I'll find you tomorrow."

After hanging up, Lucas was still worried, while Emma's bodyguards ignored him.

He was thinking about how to leave when he saw Emma coming out of the elevator.

"Ms. Kate," Lucas said, feeling a bit relieved, and quickly approached her.

Emma gave Lucas a disdainful look. "Why are you still here?"

Lucas's face stiffened at Emma's disdainful glance. "Ms. Kate's people wouldn't let me leave."

Emma looked at her people, puzzled. "Why are you keeping him here?"

Understanding her meaning, Emma's people immediately gestured for him to leave, "Mr. Manners, please."

Lucas felt both angry and frustrated, but with the chance to leave right in front of him, he took it, knowing Emma's unpredictable nature.

Once in his car and driving away, Lucas finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, Clara was chatting with Desmond.

Since learning that Desmond was coming to Starhaven to pick her up, she had been asking for the exact time.

She hoped it would be as soon as possible and wanted Desmond to tell her the time so she could feel reassured.

Desmond, exchanging a few words with her, sounded a bit impatient.

Clara vaguely heard other voices in the background, both male and female, along with faint laughter.

She guessed Desmond was out with friends, which made her uncomfortable.

"Desmond, aren't you supposed to be back at school?"

Desmond had been sent back to Luminous City and should have been attending school.

It wasn't a break, so why wasn't he in his dorm but out having fun?

Before taking Clara's call, Desmond had been joking around with friends. He wouldn't have answered if not to keep Clara calm.

Hearing Clara's question, Desmond lightly retorted, "What can you learn at school? Have you learned anything, Clara?"

Clara was momentarily speechless. She hadn't learned much in school herself, so she had no right to demand anything from Desmond. She was about to change the subject when she heard a playful laugh, "Mr. Boleyn, still on the phone? Is it with your girlfriend?"

Clara felt a pang of discomfort but heard Desmond say, "Yes, I'm talking to my girlfriend."

Then Desmond added, "Clara, I'll let you know once I confirm the time to pick you up. Don't worry."

He said this because the timing wasn't entirely up to him.

Hearing Desmond not deny their relationship, Clara felt less upset and agreed to wait.

However, before hanging up, she urged Desmond to go home soon.

"Desmond, it's getting late. After you're done with your friends, go home so your family doesn't worry."

"I know," Desmond replied casually, but as soon as he hung up, he forgot Clara's advice.

After her rebirth
