Chapter 480 Asking the Right Person
Lucas perked up at the hint of a plan, his voice brimming with enthusiasm. "But someone made a scene in front of Mr. Hamilton, which made it look like he..."
He didn't outright say that Maximilian was ignoring Emma; instead, he abruptly stopped.
Emma wasn't about to ask how Maximilian felt about her. She asked, "Did you come here just to tell me a story?"
She suspected Lucas had an agenda.
From Lucas's previous descriptions, she recalled having met him before.
Back then, she had a low opinion of Lucas, and knowing he was looking for Katniss only made her dislike him more.
But now, Lucas's words seemed to be aimed at Katniss.
She decided to play along, curious to see what Lucas was up to.
Lucas was waiting for Emma's question, and as soon as he heard it, he quickly explained, "Of course not, Ms. Kate. I suddenly thought of a way to help you!"
His excitement grew as he mentioned helping Emma.
Emma listened to Lucas's tone, recalling his calculating face with a sycophantic smile.
She frowned slightly, let out a cold laugh, and sarcastically asked, "How can you help me?"
Lucas detected the disdain and contempt in Emma's voice and realized she might be angry.
His eyelids twitched, and he felt a pang of regret.
Considering Emma's temperament, Lucas decided to take a risk and try his plan, quickly saying, "Ms. Kate, you don't need my help. But I need your help with something."
He hadn't understood Emma's personality before, but after a few exchanges, he had a better grasp of how to speak to her.
Sure enough, when Emma heard that Lucas was asking for her help, she laughed.
This laugh sounded much more genuine than her cold laugh when Lucas offered to help her.
Lucas breathed a sigh of relief, feeling a cold sweat on his forehead.
Emma's reputation was truly intimidating.
After laughing, Emma asked, "What do you need help with?"
Her tone was pleasant, her demeanor as if she were about to bestow charity upon a beggar.
Lucas didn't dare to hesitate, especially since he was anxious about Dylan's situation.
Seeing Emma's attitude, he knew he had found the right person.
"Ms. Kate, it's like this. Dylan was detained due to a misunderstanding, but someone is exerting pressure, preventing me from bailing him out. That's why I'm asking for your help."
Emma clicked her tongue. "I thought it was something serious."
Hearing this, Lucas felt a surge of hope. "Ms. Kate, if you help me, I will repay you."
He deliberately spoke in a way that catered to Emma's temperament, acting as if he were ready to go to great lengths for her, betting that Emma wouldn't take his words seriously or pay much attention to him.
Sure enough, Emma scoffed, "How can you help me?"
Lucas pretended to be conflicted and upset.
Emma interrupted him, ready to dismiss him, "I'll have someone look into Dylan's situation, considering you went to such lengths to ask me."
Lucas was thrilled by this dismissal, quickly saying, "Thank you, Ms. Kate."
Emma decisively hung up the phone before he could finish his words.
Lucas's face lit up with joy and relief.
His performance, though humiliating, had indeed paid off.
He believed that once Emma's people started investigating, they would soon find out who was exerting pressure.
While Lucas was pleased with his successful performance, Emma, on the other hand, casually instructed her subordinates to look into the matter.
Soon, she received a pile of results.
Her subordinate respectfully placed all the findings on the table. "Ms. Kate, everything we've found is here."
Emma impatiently glanced over, not intending to sift through the documents. "Just tell me."
She had only asked them to find out who was pressuring the police to prevent Dylan's bail, yet they had uncovered so much.
She was too lazy to go through it all, but could have her subordinate explain.
"Ms. Kate, there were some twists in the investigation, which is why we found so much."
"Cut to the chase. Who is it?" She was interested in the story but more curious about the result.
Knowing the result first, then hearing the story, wouldn't be bad.
"Ms. Kate, it's the Lewis family." The subordinate said while pulling out information related to the Lewis family.
He was surprised when his team discovered the connection to the Lewis family.
But upon closer inspection, it made sense.
Even if it seemed unrelated on the surface, there were many underlying connections.
"What? Which Lewis family?" Emma asked, puzzled.
She had been back in Starhaven for almost a month but hadn't paid much attention to the local families, especially not the Lewis family, which couldn't compare to the Kate family.
Emma could barely remember the Anderson family, mainly because they were quite prominent now.
"The Lewis family from Hawk."
The subordinate explained while handing over the Lewis family information to Emma, making it easy for her to understand without flipping through pages.
Emma skimmed through it, then asked with interest, "How are they connected?"
After looking at the Lewis family information, she realized they weren't a small family and were quite notable in Starhaven.
No wonder Lucas had come to her.
The Lewis family had some entanglements with the Anderson family, making it difficult to directly trace the connection to the Lewis family.
The subordinate quickly explained the reason.
It turned out the Lewis family was exerting pressure because of Johnson.
Johnson had been severely suppressed by the Lewis family due to Scarlett's car accident, but lacked the power to retaliate, harboring all his resentment towards Clara.
He hated Clara but didn't show it, and due to the Lewis family's suppression, he could only act secretly.
After things calmed down a bit, he wanted to get back at Clara, so he deliberately got close to the Manners family.
Dylan was one of the people he approached, but before he could do anything, Dylan was arrested.
When the Lewis family learned of Dylan's connection to Johnson, they exerted pressure to prevent Dylan's bail.
Emma listened, feeling a bit bored.
