Chapter 412 Already Crazy

The phone call cut off just as it started.

Before he could dial again, Gabriel's call came through.

The man handed the phone to Emma, who looked annoyed and raised her chin.

Only then did the man return the phone to Desmond.

As soon as Desmond took the phone, he saw the name on the screen and immediately understood what Maximilian meant.

Desmond felt a wave of anxiety, but had no choice but to answer the call.

The moment he picked up, he was met with a barrage of angry shouting that left him frozen in place.

Meanwhile, at the hospital.

Elodie woke up from her sedative-induced sleep to find only Dylan by her bedside.

She had been startled awake by a nightmare, drenched in sweat.

Dylan quickly wiped her sweat away. "Mom? Are you okay? Feeling better?"

Clara had told him that Elodie had been agitated before the injection and hadn't calmed down, so he stayed by her side instead of going to work.

Elodie, still shaken from her nightmare, grabbed Dylan's hand and angrily shouted, "Desmond! How dare you come here!"

She raised her hand to slap him, but Dylan quickly blocked it, shouting, "Mom, it's me, Dylan."

His shout was loud enough to snap Elodie out of it.

"Dylan?" Elodie looked at him with wide eyes, and when she recognized him, she collapsed into his arms, crying. "Dylan, you're back. Desmond is up to no good; he wants Nathan dead!"

Dylan felt a surge of anxiety.

His worst fears were coming true; he could already guess the situation from Elodie's words.

"Mom, don't worry. I won't let Nathan donate his kidney," Dylan assured her.

But Elodie kept crying, tears streaming down her face. "But what if Desmond keeps pushing Nathan?"

Dylan sighed. "I'll talk to Nathan."

They both knew that convincing Nathan was secondary; curing Nathan's illness was the priority.

"Why, why did it come to this?" Elodie was not comforted by Dylan's words and cried even harder, hitting the bed and her chest.

Suddenly, she stopped and shouted with certainty, "It must be that witch Katniss causing trouble!"

Dylan's expression darkened at the mention of Katniss.

Before he could speak, Elodie grabbed him and asked, "Didn't I tell you to bring that witch Katniss here to treat Nathan and give Clara a kidney? Why haven't you done it?"

Dylan replied, "Mom, I'm back."

"Where is she? Where's Katniss?" Elodie looked around frantically, clawing at the air. "Bring her here! I need to teach her a lesson!"

She had tried to confront Katniss before but was mocked and threatened by Katniss's bodyguards. The memory still filled her with anger.

Dylan tried to calm her down, saying helplessly, "Mom, she doesn't want to save Nathan."

He had already asked, but Katniss was no longer as approachable as she had been in Luminous City.

Moreover, Katniss had brought Maximilian with her, making Dylan too scared to say much.

Even though they were in Starhaven, the Manners family's roots were still in Luminous City, and Dylan knew all too well about Maximilian's influence there.

With Maximilian by her side, Katniss was not someone Dylan could easily mess with.

Elodie was furious at Dylan's words and shouted, "Are you like Desmond, hoping for Nathan's death? Why didn't you bring Katniss here?"

Dylan's face darkened immediately.

He thought Elodie had lost her mind.

"Mom!"

He let go of Elodie and stepped back, looking at her coldly.

Elodie was frightened by his reaction and stopped shouting, mumbling, "I need to see Nathan. I need to see Nathan."

Dylan couldn't let her go to Nathan in her current state, and firmly kept her on the bed.

He tried to calm her down while restraining her struggles.

"Mom, listen to me. No matter how much Desmond pushes Nathan, and no matter what Nathan thinks, I promise I won't let Nathan donate his kidney."

Elodie stared at him for a long time before finally relaxing.

"And Desmond! Dylan, you must teach him a lesson," Elodie said, remembering Desmond's words to her, her eyes filled with hatred.

She was sure that without Desmond's influence, Nathan wouldn't be so desperate to donate his kidney to Clara.

Thinking of Clara, Elodie felt another pang of pain and said, "You and Lucas need to focus on finding a kidney donor."

Seeing Elodie finally calm down and speak clearly, Dylan quickly agreed and promised.

At the café downstairs from Maximilian's company.

After Desmond answered Gabriel's call, Gabriel continued to berate him.

Emma found it amusing and didn't interrupt, letting Desmond endure Gabriel's anger.

Desmond could only grit his teeth and bear Emma's mocking gaze while enduring Gabriel's fury.

Finally, when Gabriel was tired of shouting, Desmond weakly said, "Dad, I didn't mean to bother Maximilian."

He was in pain from Emma's beating, and speaking hurt his mouth and face, making him wince.

"I don't care if you meant it or not!" Gabriel didn't notice the pain in Desmond's voice and harshly warned, "Stop contacting Maximilian! If this happens again, you'll be back in Luminous City!"

Before Desmond could say another word, the call ended with a busy signal.

He felt like crying, terrified by Gabriel's threat to send him back to Luminous City, his mind in chaos, when he heard Emma's mocking laugh.

"Pathetic."

He remembered that he was threatened not only by his father but also by Emma.

Even though Emma mocked him, Desmond didn't dare to show his anger.

"Ms. Kate, my dad doesn't want me to contact Maximilian." Desmond tried to explain, enduring the pain.

After all, Maximilian had hung up on him without a word, clearly showing his attitude.

Emma sneered, "What? My words don't matter as much as your dad's?"

Desmond was terrified by her words, not just because of Emma's warning and cold eyes, but also because of the bodyguard shaking his fist nearby.

Before he could respond, there was a knock on the door of the private room.
