Chapter 338 Who Did It
Katniss woke up in Maximilian's arms, her head still a bit foggy, feeling groggy all over.
"Katniss, you're awake," Maximilian's voice broke through.
When Katniss saw him clearly, she realized she was being held by him.
Confused, Katniss asked, "How did I fall asleep? Are we going home?"
Her memory was stuck on her sitting on the couch in the corner, watching Maximilian from afar, then suddenly feeling sleepy and unexpectedly dozing off.
Maximilian frowned, recalling the earlier events, but spoke gently, "Yeah, we're heading home now."
They got into the car, with Conrad dutifully driving. Maximilian placed Katniss in the back seat and sat beside her.
"Are you feeling okay?" Maximilian asked.
Katniss was puzzled.
She had just taken a nap, so why did Maximilian seem so worried?
Could something have happened?
"No, my head was a bit dizzy earlier, but I'm feeling much better now." Katniss rubbed her temples and, seeing Maximilian frowning, asked, "Did something happen?"
Maximilian sighed and was about to speak when a phone rang suddenly.
It was his phone.
Katniss didn't rush to ask further and let him answer the call.
Maximilian answered immediately, and the person on the other end said, "I sent the surveillance video to your email. I also captured a few key frames and sent them to you. Do you want me to investigate those two waiters further?"
"Yeah, keep looking into it. We'll talk later," Maximilian replied and hung up.
In a mansion in Starhaven,
Patrick looked at the disconnected call and started investigating the two waiters' bank accounts.
Unfortunately, their accounts hadn't received any suspicious funds recently, suggesting the person behind it likely paid them in cash.
However, if it were cash, that would be easier to handle.
He quickly hacked into the surveillance system to check for any suspicious behavior from the two waiters.
But the hotel didn't have cameras everywhere, so he couldn't find anything useful.
He reviewed their movements again but didn't see any suspicious footage, so he sent their information to Maximilian for him to investigate.
As for the guest room, it was impossible to trace.
The room was one of the ones prepared by the event organizers for any guest to rest in, so it was reasonable for the waiters to take someone there.
"What are you doing sneaking upstairs?" A voice sounded behind Patrick. "Trying to avoid drinking?"
Patrick looked at him helplessly. "Maximilian needed my help. Besides, I can handle my liquor. Why would I avoid drinking?"
"Maximilian? What does he need you for? Isn't he in Luminous City?" The person talking to Patrick clearly knew Maximilian, though he wasn't aware of his current situation, but knew he was supposed to be in Luminous City.
Patrick replied, "I just found out he came to Starhaven, and he asked me for a favor."
Thinking about how much Maximilian cared for Katniss, Patrick suddenly recalled that Maximilian had gotten married before returning to the country.
Could it be that Katniss was his wife?
"What are you thinking about? Since he's in Starhaven, we should get together sometime. Now come downstairs, you haven't finished your drink."
The man said, pulling Patrick downstairs.
In the car.
After hanging up, Maximilian first looked at the pictures sent to him.
The more he looked, the darker his expression became.
Finally, he managed to suppress his emotions and said to Katniss, "Earlier, you suddenly felt dizzy and were taken to a room."
Katniss was stunned. "Who did it?"
Maximilian replied, "Two waiters. We don't know who instructed them. Let's go home first, and I'll have someone continue investigating."
Katniss was fully awake now.
She quickly checked herself and found no discomfort, then asked, "Were they instructed by someone? But I don't feel any discomfort."
She feared Maximilian might be mistaken.
"Look at this surveillance footage." Maximilian took out his phone and opened the email, showing it to Katniss.
Katniss looked at it and suddenly understood why Maximilian thought someone had instructed them.
As soon as the two approached her, she suddenly passed out, which was very unusual.
"Who booked the room they took me to? Maybe we can find out who instructed them by investigating that."
Katniss felt a wave of fear.
She had been unconscious for only about twenty minutes.
If Maximilian hadn't reacted quickly, she might still be asleep in that room.
"The event organizers booked it for guests to use," Patrick mentioned in the email that the guest room was prepared by the event organizers for guests, so the waiters taking someone there was reasonable.
Now, they could only question the two waiters about their motives.
But if those two denied being instructed, they wouldn't have any other leads.
"Those two," Katniss said, feeling dazed. "When they approached, I think I smelled a peculiar scent."
"What kind of scent?" Maximilian asked urgently.
Katniss shook her head. "I'm not sure, just felt uncomfortable."
She felt like she had smelled various scents tonight but couldn't recall them now.
Maximilian gently stroked her hair, comforting her, "Don't think about it now. Let's go home and rest. I'll handle this."
They soon arrived home.
Maximilian, worried about Katniss's condition, called a doctor to check her.
The doctor found nothing wrong, and Katniss didn't feel unwell, so they washed up and went to bed.
The next morning.
Ethan woke up with a headache, feeling like he hadn't slept well.
When he opened his eyes, he was shocked by the scene before him.
There was someone in his arms, her face pressed against his chest, and he was holding her tightly.
The key point was, neither of them was wearing any clothes.
In his confusion, he quickly pushed her away, waking her up.
As he pushed her away, he saw her face.
It was Clara.
Clara woke up, looking groggy.
When she saw Ethan lying in the same bed, she screamed in shock and sat up immediately.
"Why are you in my room?" Her face was flushed, her eyes wide with shock, and tears started streaming down her face.
Ethan was jolted by her crying, gradually becoming more alert.
Noticing Clara wasn't wearing any clothes, he quickly looked away.
"I don't know," he said, clueless, but quickly made a promise, "Don't be afraid. I'll take responsibility."
Clara continued crying, her sobs quieter now.
She didn't respond to Ethan's words but secretly observed him.
She wiped her tears, noticing Ethan didn't dare look at her, and started observing him more closely.
She was satisfied with Ethan's reaction and even more pleased with his identity.
The Anderson family held a significant position in Starhaven's business world.
She was determined to outshine Katniss in this regard!
