Chapter 457 Why Lie

When Elodie heard that it was Lucas who convinced Nathan to be discharged, Clara had a plan.

Seeing Elodie's worried and melancholic expression, Clara comforted her at the right moment.

"Nathan hasn't explored Starhaven since he got here. It's time he gets a good look around. Mom, don't worry. If Lucas thinks it's okay for Nathan to be discharged, then Nathan will be fine."

Elodie glanced at Clara and sighed, "I know, Lucas always has a method to his actions."

At that moment, she felt somewhat guilty towards Clara.

After all, the reason she had been reluctant to let Nathan be discharged was her fear that Nathan might secretly get tested and donate his kidney to Clara.

This worry showed a lack of trust in Clara.

And Elodie wasn't the only one in the Manners family who didn't trust Clara; even Dylan hadn't fully trusted her.

After all, everyone had told Clara that the matching results were unsuccessful.

Clara met Elodie's gaze and gave a simple smile.

"Mom, even if it wasn't Lucas who convinced you, you don't need to worry. Nathan is also methodical in his actions."

Elodie sighed, "Alright. After Nathan is discharged, I'll stay with him. You don't need to worry."

She didn't believe Nathan was methodical, considering he had genuinely wanted to donate his kidney to Clara before.

That was what he didn't want to live anymore.

A person who didn't want to live, how could they be methodical?

Lucas suggested it, so she would let Nathan be discharged because she trusted that Lucas had arrangements.

Whether it was to prevent Nathan from getting accurate matching results or to stop Nathan from donating his kidney.

Clara nodded, "Okay, Mom. I can also stay with Nathan later."

Elodie didn't respond to Clara's offer to stay with Nathan.

She wished Clara wouldn't have any contact with Nathan, so how could she be pleased to hear Clara say she wanted to stay with him?

Clara's expression stiffened slightly.

She sensed something and was about to change the topic when Elodie said, "Focus on your studies and be wary of Desmond. Don't worry about anything else."

Elodie's words were somewhat harsh and forceful.

Clara's expression stiffened, and her heart felt cold and suffocated.

Elodie was guarding against her.

Guarding against her, not letting her get close to Nathan.

But Clara had come to the hospital to persuade Nathan to return to Luminous City with her.

How could she let Elodie have her way?

She decided not to mention staying with Nathan after his discharge and instead sat in the chair.

She said, "Mom, I'm feeling much better now. You can go ahead and continue with the paperwork."

Seeing Clara's complexion improve, Elodie felt awkward about her previous words and casually comforted her before going to handle the paperwork.

Clara calmly watched Elodie leave, but her heart was far from calm.

She knew that ever since Desmond suggested she and Nathan get tested, Elodie had been dissatisfied with Desmond, which had created a rift between them.

But Elodie's attitude just now hurt her.

She watched Elodie's back for a while before heading to Nathan's room.

She was determined to persuade Nathan to return to Luminous City with her. She was much more resolute now than before.

Starhaven was a place full of trouble, with one mess after another. She didn't want to stay there for even a moment longer!

Soon, Clara arrived at Nathan's room.

Nathan wasn't lying in bed as usual but was sitting in a wheelchair by the window, looking at the scenery outside.

His room was on the fifth floor.

Sitting by the bed instead of the window, he couldn't see anything nearby, only the distant tall buildings.

Even so, he was lost in thought, staring at the unchanging buildings.

Clara called out, "Nathan."

Nathan snapped out of his daze and turned his wheelchair to face her.

"Clara, aren't you supposed to be in class?"

Clara repeated the excuse she had used with Elodie, but Nathan frowned.

She thought Nathan didn't believe her and was about to say something when Nathan asked, "Clara, is your academic schedule tight?"

Clara shook her head, stunned.

She hadn't cared about her studies.

She knew she could easily get her diploma with minimal effort, and even if she didn't, it wouldn't matter.

With the Manners family backing her, as long as she married well, she would be fine.

She had once considered marrying Desmond, but after everything that had happened, her feelings for him had faded.

Moreover, before returning to Luminous City, she had at least managed to trick Desmond into Emma's hands, so she hadn't considered marrying Desmond at all.

Even if Desmond had proposed to her.

But she always felt that Desmond's proposal wasn't sincere.

Seeing her shake her head, Nathan asked, "Then can you go to another hospital with me later? It shouldn't take much time."

Clara's heart raced. She seemed to understand Nathan's intention.

And Nathan didn't seem to be hiding it.

Clara asked, her voice trembling, "Nathan, what do you want to do?"

Nathan sighed and was about to speak when he saw a shadow approaching outside the room and shook his head slightly.

Clara frowned, knowing without turning around that someone was coming.

"Clara, why are you in the room?" Elodie's voice confirmed Clara's suspicion.

Clara turned around, smiling, "I came to chat with Nathan."

Elodie, feeling annoyed, was momentarily taken aback by Clara's smile before saying, "The discharge paperwork is done. Let's go home together."

Clara responded and took the initiative to push Nathan's wheelchair.

The three of them walked out, each with their thoughts.

As Clara walked, she thought about how she had planned to persuade Nathan to return to Luminous City with her, but now Nathan seemed to be questioning the matching results himself.

She could wait until Nathan confirmed the matching results were successful and then let him donate his kidney to her.

She would just be passively accepting it. The Manners family wouldn't blame her, right?

Clara, Nathan, and Elodie left the hospital and returned home.

Lucas, after meeting a friend, received news from another friend who had been helping him track Clara's whereabouts.

He immediately arranged to meet him.

As soon as they met, his friend handed him a file.

Lucas flipped through it and learned that Clara had been taken from the school gate yesterday by someone named Dione.

"Who is Dione?" Lucas asked, puzzled. "Is she Clara's classmate?"

The file didn't include information about Dione, but Clara had said she was at a classmate's house. Could that be her classmate?

"Who Dione is doesn't matter. What matters is that Dione took Clara to meet the heir of the Kate family."

Hearing the Kate family heir, Lucas was stunned, his brows furrowing.

"How did she get involved with the Kate family?" he asked, immediately worried.

Remembering Clara's claim that she was at a classmate's house, Lucas's frown deepened.

Why did Clara lie?

"How would I know? But it seems she wasn't harmed," Lucas's friend shrugged.

After her rebirth
