Chapter 411 Another Beating Will Do

Desmond was torn between worrying about Clara's health and fearing she might overthink the presence of the people following him.

To avoid the issue, he asked Clara why she hadn't gone back.

The excuse he gave the bodyguard about needing to ask Clara about his phone was a lie.

He knew his phone was on Elodie's bed and didn't need to ask Clara.

"I was waiting for you," Clara replied softly, glancing at the bodyguards waiting nearby with a frown.

Desmond's heart skipped a beat, worried that Clara might question him.

But to his surprise, Clara didn't ask why he had someone with him.

Instead, she extended her hand towards him.

Desmond was puzzled, not understanding her gesture.

It wasn't until Clara spoke again that he noticed she was holding his phone.

"Your phone fell on Mom's bed. Someone called just now," Clara said.

Desmond's eyelid twitched.

Clara hesitated but decided to tell Desmond about the call.

It wasn't something she could hide.

"I answered it because I didn't want the ringing to wake Mom."

Desmond was startled and quickly took the phone to check the call log, feeling a wave of dread.

Sure enough, it was Dione who had called, and Clara had answered.

Even though there was nothing between him and Dione, and her calls were usually to mock him with her friends, Desmond didn't want Clara to know about it.

He was worried Clara might misunderstand.

Seeing him anxiously checking the call log, Clara felt a pang of discomfort but kept a calm exterior.

"Clara, you didn't get the wrong idea, did you? You know there's nothing between Dione and me," Desmond said, realizing his overreaction and quickly putting the phone away, trying to gauge Clara's reaction.

Clara shook her head, biting her lip as she told Desmond the address and room number Dione had mentioned, then decisively walked into the hospital room.

Desmond wanted to explain, but the bodyguard didn't give him a chance.

Once he had his phone, they quickly escorted him out.

"Hurry up, Ms. Saunders is waiting!" the bodyguard warned as he dragged Desmond away.

Clara entered the room, still mulling over Desmond's words.

What did he mean by asking if she got the wrong idea?

Did Desmond think she was unreasonable?

Feeling a bit stifled, Clara closed the door, hoping Desmond would come in to explain.

But after two minutes, the door remained closed.

She quickly opened it, only to find Desmond gone!

Clara's eyes reddened with anger.

Did Desmond just leave? Even if she believed there was nothing between him and Dione, was it right for him to rush off to see her?

The thought of Desmond leaving without a word made her even angrier.

"Clara? What's wrong?" a concerned voice asked.

Clara turned, surprised and relieved to see Dylan, who was out of breath from running.

"I'm fine, Dylan," Clara said, shaking her head, though her mood was visibly low.

Dylan, reassured, quickly asked, "How's Mom?"

He had rushed back to the hospital after Clara's call, where she mentioned Elodie was sedated but didn't explain what had happened.

Clara was caught off guard by Dylan's question.

She hadn't prepared any explanation.

Desmond had said he would handle Dylan, but now Desmond had left because of another woman's call.

Seeing Clara's confused and helpless look, Dylan felt a pang of sympathy and didn't press further.

They entered the room together, and seeing Elodie asleep, Dylan sighed in relief.

"Clara, you should go home and rest. I'll stay with Mom," Dylan said.

Clara hesitated, standing still, unsure about leaving.

Meanwhile, Desmond was dragged into a car by the bodyguard, recalling the address and room number Clara had mentioned, knowing it was Dione's doing.

But he had to deal with Emma now and couldn't handle Dione.

Once in the car, he texted Dione, explaining he was busy with Emma.

If Dione had any sense, she would know not to mess with Emma.

Sure enough, Dione told him to come to her after he was done.

Desmond felt relieved but also frustrated.

The car soon stopped at Maximilian's company, and he was taken to a nearby café.

Emma didn't waste time. "Call Maximilian down," she ordered.

Desmond, unsure, complied and called Maximilian.

Thankfully, the call was answered.

But Maximilian refused to come down.

"Maximilian?" Desmond was almost in tears.

But he couldn't mention Emma's involvement due to her threats.

"Anything else?" Maximilian's tone was cold, showing no concern for Desmond's distress.

Desmond glanced at Emma, who glared at him, and took a deep breath. "Maximilian, I need you to come down. It's urgent."

He was being threatened by Emma, which was urgent enough.

"I'll let your dad know," Maximilian replied coldly and hung up before Desmond could respond.

Desmond stared at the phone, stunned.

"Ms. Kate," he turned to Emma, explaining, "Maximilian must be busy."

Emma scoffed, already having a plan.

"Another beating should do it," she said, signaling her men.

They immediately grabbed Desmond and started beating him.

Caught off guard and overwhelmed by the punches, Desmond couldn't react, let alone escape.

"Stop, please stop!" he cried out in pain, begging for mercy.

Emma didn't call them off, and the beating continued.

Finally, when Desmond was sufficiently bruised, Emma lazily said, "That's enough."

The men stopped, and Desmond was pushed back into a chair.

"Now call him and tell him you were beaten," Emma instructed, recalling that Desmond had contacted Maximilian after being beaten last time.

Desmond, in pain and dizzy, trembled at Emma's command.

Seeing no response, Emma kicked him again.

Terrified, Desmond stammered, "Okay, Ms. Kate," his hands shaking as he tried to dial.

His fingers fumbled, unable to make the call.

Emma, impatient, kicked him again and signaled her men.

One of them took the phone, found the last call, and redialed.

After her rebirth
