Chapter 444 She Has Bad Intentions
Ryan immediately started struggling, but Conrad gave him a hard shove to keep him down.
Ryan, not giving up, began hurling profanities at Katniss.
Katniss, unfazed, glanced at the time and said to Conrad, "I gotta head to training. Can you handle this?"
"Got it!" Conrad quickly gagged Ryan and nodded, then signaled two nearby bodyguards to follow Katniss and ensure her safety.
She wasn't late, but by the time she arrived, most people were already there.
It was unusual for someone like Katniss to arrive late, especially after the rumors and false accusations against her the previous day.
As soon as she entered the classroom, people turned to look at her.
Normally, they were curious about Katniss because of her medical prowess, but today, it was more about the gossip.
Katniss took a seat next to Ethan.
Ethan asked, "You okay after yesterday?"
He had taken the day off, but later heard about the false accusations against Katniss.
Katniss smiled at him, "It's all sorted out."
Thinking about how Dylan had caused trouble yesterday and now Ryan, egged on by Clara, was after her today, Katniss couldn't help but think the Manners family was full of lunatics.
Ethan, seeing she was fine, didn't press further and continued to ponder something.
The training session started, and Katniss quickly immersed herself in learning.
Conrad first reported the incident with Ryan to Maximilian, then called the police.
The police arrived quickly and took statements, but there was a twist.
Ryan and his six accomplices denied targeting Katniss and even accused Conrad of assaulting them, demanding compensation.
"Sir, we didn't do anything! They just attacked us out of nowhere!"
"Yeah, they beat us up for no reason. They should pay for our medical bills and emotional distress!"
Ryan chimed in, "I was just passing by, and they grabbed me for no reason. I don't even know them."
He was secretly pleased.
Despite his arrogance, he had planned for this scenario and instructed his accomplices on what to say if they got caught.
So, when he had the chance to speak, he was the first to follow the plan.
Conrad wasn't having any of it and pulled out a recording device.
"You think we came unprepared? This recorder has everything you said."
The young officer took the recorder, looking relieved. "Good thing you were prepared."
He couldn't help but wonder about Conrad's composure, recording everything even during a fight.
One officer, observing the bodyguards' demeanor, said to the young officer, "They seem to be telling the truth, but let's play the recording to be sure."
The seven men, who had been shouting, fell silent, and Ryan's expression turned sour.
Before the recording could be played, one of the men, scared.
He confessed, "Mr. Martin told us to lie. He hired us and said he wouldn't pay if we told the truth."
With one confession, the others quickly followed.
"It was all Mr. Martin's idea. We were just hired hands, and we didn't even get to do anything."
"It's not our fault; it was all his plan!"
Seeing his accomplices turn on him, Ryan's face twisted with anger.
He knew he shouldn't speak, but he couldn't hold back. "What do you mean? I hired you six, and you couldn't even handle three people!"
"You useless idiots! You failed and dragged me down! And you still want money?"
His furious expression, combined with his chubby face, looked comical.
Conrad, seeing this, extended his hand to the officer, "Can I have the pen back?"
The young officer, confused, asked, "Aren't we playing the recording?"
Conrad replied, "It's just a regular pen."
Then Ryan exploded, "What do you mean? There's no recording? Let us go! We didn't do anything!"
The officers, thinking these people were out of their minds, took them away for temporary detention.
The length of their detention would depend on the severity of the weapons they carried.
As for Conrad and the two bodyguards, they were released after giving their statements.
When Katniss heard about Conrad's handling of the situation, she was already with Maximilian, lounging lazily in his arms. "Conrad's getting smarter."
Conrad, driving, said, "Mrs. Hamilton, I've always been smart."
Katniss chuckled, "Yes, you have."
Maximilian tightened his hold on Katniss and said, "They'll only be detained for three days."
Katniss shrugged, "It's fine. Ryan's not the only one who finds him annoying."
Maximilian, guessing who she meant, asked, "What do you plan to do?"
Maximilian often gave Katniss a lot of freedom and didn't interfere much in such matters.
Katniss thought for a moment, "I haven't decided. I don't want to get my hands dirty."
They were talking about Clara.
Clara had repeatedly caused trouble, but her efforts were futile against Katniss, leaving Katniss more exasperated than harmed.
"Then let's let her face the consequences herself," Maximilian suggested.
Katniss nodded, "She'll probably manage that on her own."
According to Patrick's special investigation, Clara had been causing a lot of trouble lately, and there were plenty of people who would make her life difficult.
They were right. Clara was already in a tough spot.
She was taken into a car by Dione.
"Ms. Saunders, what is this about?" Clara knew Dione and had once envied her for being openly with Desmond.
But now, seeing Dione again, she felt a chill.
Dione was definitely up to no good.
Seeing Clara's fearful expression, Dione smiled with satisfaction, "Ms. Manners, don't be scared. Someone just wants to see you."
Clara was terrified.
She looked at the rapidly receding scenery and tried to scream for help, but before she could, Dione's companion covered her mouth.
