Chapter 379 She Needs a Kidney Transplant
Clara had been crying by Elodie's bedside for so long that she was completely drained.
Eventually, Dylan and Desmond had to help her up for the medical check-up.
There were a lot of tests, but most were routine.
However, when the results came back, the doctor's expression was anything but reassuring.
"Dr. Fairfax, what's wrong with Clara?" Dylan asked.
Dylan had been working at Serenity Health Institute for a while and knew quite a few people, though most were more experienced or held higher positions than him.
Imogen, who was reviewing Clara's report, was one of those people.
"Run another detailed test, focusing on the kidneys," Imogen said, adjusting her glasses and handing the previous test results back to Dylan.
Dylan was taken aback but instinctively took the report and started reading it.
Sure enough, one of the kidney-related indicators was abnormal.
Leaving Imogen's office, Dylan's face was visibly troubled, immediately catching the attention of Desmond and Clara.
"Dylan? What's wrong?" Clara asked, her eyes red from crying.
Dylan shook his head. "There's another test we need to do. I'll go with you."
He didn't want to worry Clara until they had more information.
Desmond noticed Dylan's expression but said nothing.
After the final test, Clara was exhausted. Dylan suggested, "I'll wait for the results. Clara, you should go home and rest."
Clara hesitated, sensing that Dylan was hiding something from her.
Desmond, picking up on Dylan's cue, said, "Clara, let me take you home."
Clara glanced at Dylan one more time before leaving with Desmond.
Once they were out of the hospital, Clara couldn't shake her anxiety. "Desmond, do you think I have something serious?"
Desmond quickly reassured her, "No, Clara, you'll be fine."
Despite his words, Desmond was worried. Dylan's expression had been too serious for it to be a minor issue.
Clara had always had health problems, but this seemed different.
After dropping Clara off, Desmond called Dylan.
Dylan had just received the final test results and was staring at them in disbelief.
Clara had kidney failure. It was in the early stages, but she would need a transplant.
Clara was so young; they couldn't deny her the treatment. But where would they find a donor?
Dylan had some influence at Luminous City Hospital, but this was Starhaven.
He felt a headache coming on and decided to call Lucas for help.
Just as he was about to dial, Desmond called.
After a moment's hesitation, Dylan answered.
The Boleyn family might be able to help find a donor.
"Dylan? Are Clara's results in?" Desmond asked urgently.
Dylan sighed. "Yes, but Clara's not with you, right?"
"I just dropped her off. Dylan, tell me, is she sick?"
"She needs a kidney transplant."
Desmond was stunned and had to confirm several times.
Clara's condition was serious; she needed a transplant.
"Then let's arrange it!" Desmond said.
Dylan replied helplessly, "We don't have a donor yet. The Manners family will do our best to find one, but you should also keep an eye out."
Desmond agreed and immediately called Gabriel in Luminous City to ask for help.
Gabriel, however, first asked about Desmond's date with Dione.
"Did you meet Dione? Did you apologize? Did she forgive you?" Gabriel's tone was calm, trying to soothe Desmond.
Desmond had completely forgotten about his date with Dione.
"Sorry, Dad, I forgot." He had been so focused on Clara that he missed the date entirely.
Gabriel was furious. "How could you forget? Did Ms. Saunders contact you?"
Desmond felt both frustrated and guilty. He needed Gabriel's help and couldn't afford to make him angrier.
"Dad, I'll apologize to her right away!"
Though he didn't want to see Dione, he had no choice. For Clara's sake, he would apologize no matter what.
"Go now!" Gabriel snapped, hanging up before Desmond could ask for help.
Gabriel was still fuming when Emily approached him.
"Did Desmond meet Ms. Saunders?" she asked cautiously.
"No, he missed the date, and she hasn't contacted him either," Gabriel replied irritably.
Emily sighed. "Desmond is still young. He'll learn."
Back in Starhaven, Desmond stared at his phone, contemplating calling Gabriel back to ask for help finding a donor.
But he decided against it, fearing Gabriel's anger.
He tried calling Dione several times, but she kept rejecting his calls.
