Chapter 494 Truly Embarrassing
When the cars blocked both sides of the road, Conrad confirmed they were all part of the same group.
"Mr. Maximilian Hamilton, Mrs. Katniss Hamilton. They've got five cars, deliberately blocking us."
Maximilian immediately pulled Katniss into his arms for protection.
As soon as the five cars stopped, several people quickly got out of the lead car and headed straight for them.
Conrad, leading the charge, called for the bodyguards from another car and rushed forward to block them.
The opposing group had about ten people, each holding one or two weapons, looking fierce and ready for a fight.
One of them shouted before even reaching Conrad, "Get 'em!"
Conrad's team, all seasoned professionals, engaged them immediately. Despite the various weapons the attackers wielded, including knives and baseball bats, Maximilian's bodyguards, all retired soldiers or mercenaries, quickly disarmed them and fought back aggressively.
One attacker was struck in the back with the flat side of a knife, causing him to double over in pain despite no visible wound. Another's arm was broken with a baseball bat, eliciting a series of agonized screams.
In no time, the once intimidating group of ten was subdued by the four bodyguards.
Conrad grabbed one of the attackers. "Who sent you?"
"Mr. Martin sent us..." the man stammered, then pointed to the lead car, "Mr. Martin is in there!"
Conrad looked over and saw a figure inside the car, trying to move from the back seat to the front.
Ryan, inside the car, was terrified. Seeing that even ten men couldn't handle Katniss's bodyguards, he decided to flee.
Conrad recognized Ryan as the one who had previously tried to intercept Katniss at school.
Ryan, sweating profusely, finally reached the driver's seat. He didn't bother with the seatbelt, just released the handbrake and tried to start the car.
Conrad ordered his bodyguards, "He's trying to run, stop him!"
Two bodyguards quickly got into their cars and blocked Ryan's vehicle from both sides.
With a loud crash, Ryan's car was wedged between the two bodyguard cars.
Ryan was drenched in sweat, panic-stricken. He couldn't even open the car door, his body shaking with fear.
The bodyguards, having only compressed the passenger side, calmly opened the door and stepped out.
Conrad, seeing Ryan was contained, checked the time and said, "Let's get Mr. Maximilian Hamilton and Mrs. Katniss Hamilton to the exam venue. Tie up the attackers and leave someone to call the police."
Following Conrad's orders, the team quickly found ropes in the attackers' cars.
Katniss, watching from inside her car, was amazed.
"This is incredible," she couldn't help but say.
She knew her bodyguards were skilled, having seen them fend off multiple attackers at school, but witnessing it again was still impressive.
After admiring the bodyguards, Katniss turned her gaze to Maximilian.
Maximilian, feeling her intense gaze, smiled slightly, pleased.
Despite the large number of attackers, it was just a minor incident for them. Fortunately, they had left early, so they wouldn't be late.
With Conrad back in the car, they quickly headed to the exam venue.
"You're amazing!" Katniss said, recalling the bodyguards' prowess, leaning closer to Maximilian.
Maximilian hugged her tightly, saying seriously, "You deserve the best protection."
Katniss's heart raced uncontrollably.
Unable to calm her fast heartbeat, Katniss tried to distract herself.
Looking at the passing scenery, she asked, "Do you think Ryan is here to help Clara hurt me again?"
Last time at Starhaven Medical University, Ryan had blocked her, likely with Clara's involvement. Despite being taught a lesson, Ryan seemed undeterred.
Or perhaps Clara was still relentless.
"We'll find out. This time, he won't just be locked up for a few days," Maximilian said, squinting.
"Okay," Katniss said, focusing on her upcoming exam.
Maximilian let her rest on his shoulder, "Sleep a bit more, I'll wake you when we arrive."
Katniss leaned against Maximilian's shoulder, closed her eyes, and dozed off.
The exam venue wasn't far, and soon they arrived.
Maximilian woke Katniss and personally escorted her to the exam hall.
Watching her disappear inside, Maximilian's gentle expression turned stern.
Conrad approached, "Mr. Hamilton, Ryan has been taken to the police station. Mr. Reynolds is helping with the investigation."
Maximilian nodded, his eyes cold, "Make sure Ryan doesn't get out."
Conrad understood and relayed the message to the bodyguards handling Ryan.
Meanwhile, Emma received the news at the police station.
"Useless!" A glass shattered on the floor, the sound echoing sharply. The man beside Emma trembled.
He wiped his sweat, "Ms. Kate, don't worry. Even if Ryan didn't capture Katniss, we can still tamper with her exam results."
Emma glared at him, "Do I need you to remind me? You said Ryan could stop her!"
The man dropped to his knees. "I didn't expect Ryan to fail against those bodyguards, even with ten men."
He felt wronged, thinking Ryan would be cautious, but Ryan's public ambush and failure were embarrassing.
